I finally had the opportunity to use my new beanie, and its performance was very disappointing. The hook-and-loop fastener (surely not real Velcro) was of poor quality. If I fastened the strap securely enough, it would come undone with minimal strain. And of course if I fastened it more loosely, it allowed water in and didn't provide warmth. Also, the end of the strap was badly sewn, such that it curled and didn't lay completely flat. My previous beanie, an Akona, was of much better quality and stayed securely fastened even after 15 years of use.

Good product. Fits well and plenty warm for warm water use.

This really is shockingly thin. I admit I didn't get out a ruler, but I don't see how it can be 3mm - it feels like the barest covering. Didn't try it in the water, so I can't say whether it actually has some miraculous warming properties that are not apparent from looking at it, but this seems unlikely.

In my last review I did not provide any details. I find Pinnacle products to be pretty solid, however this hood was very uncomfortable for me, the chin strap specifically. I returned the item and ordered the Neosport 2.5mm Sport Beanie Cap with an adjustable chin strap which I find far more comfortable.

I was very disappointed to find that this beanie was no thicker than my 1mm beanie that I paid $10 for. The pinnacle is well made but is extremely thin and definitely not 3mm. Most certainly not worth $30.

When a full hood is too much but you need a little something for insulation on your head, this is it. This works great for dives with the a few short drops below the thermocline.

Pinnacle 3mm Beanie: I am 6'2" tall. The 2XL fit me fine. Not too loose; not too tight. Though I have not seen an XL-size; from the fit of this one; I believe I could have worn an XL as well. I wear a 2XL in a cotton sunhat. I like a hat as loose as possible that stays on and fits. I use this for swimming laps in a swimming-pool in cold weather; maybe 2-days a year. The cap and chin-strap were comfortable and easy to put on. The cap is flexible and soft. The cap covered my ears and forehead. The cap did not fill with water or bulge at the top while swimming. I tested it in spring-time in 65-degree water. The cap kept my head warm for that temperature. I did not have access to lower temperature water. My impression is this cap would keep my head warm down to 60-degrees. At lower temperature it would make it less cold. I have tried a 7mm hood and that was thick, stiff, and overkill for my purpose. For water colder than 60-degrees; I would try wearing two 3mm caps; or a 3mm-hood over this, before trying anything thicker. The cap has a thin feeling; very similar to my 1.5mm neoprene swim-shirt. I have not seen or tried anything 5mm thick.

I'd had enough of being cold in my 5mm wetsuit in tropical waters so finally decided to try wearing a hood. When I tried it on in the store the fit was perfect, but once wet it felt ever so slightly big. This was exactly the extra bit of neoprene I needed to keep warm. I love that the chin strap doesn't chafe, which I had been worried about as I'd never worn a hood before. It's also great for keeping my long hair tucked away. Size wise, for most the S will be small enough, but if you find that most average sized baseball caps are too big on you (as I do), then you may also find the S, once wet, slightly big. Overall happy with this, good value, and it weighs nothing for something that does so much.

Very nice accessory. Using this, instead of the wetsuit hood, makes head movements much easier.

We spent a week on Bonaire during the last month of February. The water was colder than we expected. The Pinnacle Beannie was perfect to add the warmth needed and avoid the discomfort that accompanies the thicker mm hoods. It was recommended by a friend and we both enjoyed the product on every dive.

Seemed a little snug on the surface, especially the chin strap, but a Medium fit my wife and M/L fit me perfectly once in the water. Kept away the chill at 76 degrees for long EAN32 dives.

Bought it for cool water diving. Used it in 63 degree water. It fit well and it did what I hoped by allowing me to make a couple comfortable dives.

I don't think so! Not restricting like other hoods. Perfectly holds my horse mane back. I dont get cold easily but it keeps me toasty! The fit was perfect for my big head.[...]

This beanie hood is OK. It would serve it's purpose for warm water diving. The fit is a little loose (if I went to the next smaller size I'd get a brain squeeze) so exhaled air from the regulator gets caught in the hood and starts pulling on the chin strap.

Works perfectly for warmer waters to maintain warmth and protection. Unlike a hoodie, this beanie is almost unnoticeable underwater...

Very good construction, good fit. Needed it mostly for warmer water and night dives where a beanie would make the diving more comfortable. Some folks would wear this all the time, even in tropic waters.

When a full hood is too much but you need a little something for insulation on your head, this is it. This works great for dives with the a few short drops below the thermocline.
The Pinnacle 3mm Beanie Hood is great for warm water diving as well as surfing and other water sports. Since most of a diver's heat loss is through their head, this light and comfortable beanie is enough to really improve a diver's comfort level. Constructed for 3mm titanium lined nylon 2 neoprene which is very stretchy and comfortable, with hook and loop fastener chin strap to keep beanie securely in place. Protects head from sunburn when worn, excellent for tropical diving in the hot sun. All seams are glued and sewn for strength and durability. Beanie has sewn edges for additional strength and comfort. Pinnacle's 3mm Beanie Hood packs very small, so it's great for travel. Fit into a BC pocket, so it can be donned in the middle of a dive. Beanie is black in color and available in multiple unisex sizes.
