Questions & Answers

Maiko M : is that protect from ear perforation ?Mario C : no it does not.
Ej E : What is the deepest depth the mask will go? i spearfish and have been dragged to165'. Will this mask handle 165'? Will it handle 150'? What would happen at 150'?140'? Mask squeeze?MICHAEL L : First off, the mask operates like any other mask- ie. you can equalize the pressure as you go. There's an adjustable pad on the inside of the mask that helps to block your nostrils when equalizing (personally, I don't need to do that, but it's there if you do). Figuring you get trained to use the mask (ie. don't use any full face mask w/o training & emergency procedures), they'll show you how to equalize the mask. Finally, if you're getting dragged to 150+ while breathing compressed air ***warning*** you're a good candidate for DCS. (free diving / without compressed air exposure to 100+ is entirely different). Last bit... we own 2 of the OTS masks & love them! 1) They're better to dive with than any mask/mouth-reg mix- more visibility and NO FOGGING since the dry compressed air continually clears your mask. 2) The process also allows you to breathe thru your nose while underwater (where you also don't end up with dry mouth after doing alot of back-to-back dives) 3) We dive with the buddy phones- love the communications when hunting underwater 4) Better / far more rugged than the Ocean Reef products... OTS is SOLID & designed for commercial work. Ocean Reef is lightweight and feels like the thin polycarbonate could break.
Shopper : Is this compatible with Brownies Hookah?CYNTHIA E : The pressure of air coming down line depends on depth and your equipment. You can swap out internal spring in regulator to allow for less pressure. If you are in shallow water say above 30 feet it should be ok. If there is a problem you can get a spring adjustment for mask .ROBERT B : Good question - for some reason I am thinking the hookah may not deliver enough pressureTHOMAS G : What are you smoking?
MEL P : What about prescription lens?MEL P : Mark, thank you very much.MARK K : Mel, I have prescription lens. I am using the advantage 1000 frame w/ corrective lens (I had them from my gas mask (military). My brother has the same OTS Guardian mask and purchased his frame from OTS via Leisure Pro. Visit the OTS web site for more information, or call a Leisure Pro sales rep for the part number.Visit the OTS website (google) and type in corrective lens in the search block.

Solid product & facemask

Great mask... but definitely not for beginners. Get emergency training procedures and practice in a pool first before going open water. Going for back up air requires removal of the mask and a little hunting for your octo (then your back up mask in your pocket) Got mine with the coms- cool little device. Talk slowly so that your dive buddy can hear what you're saying. Great for doing team-work type diving - like photography (set ups) or hunting.

Remarkable Mask!

This is an incredible mask that will dramatically alter your diving experience. I have been diving since 2007 and I am a Master Diver. Despite my experience, I still get the occasional fogging and flooding in my mask and a little jaw fatigue and salt water in the mouth from time to time. Those days are over! This mask is very easy to use and operate! It maintains positive pressure which prevents all flooding and fogging, regardless of depth. I do a lot of Deep diving, wreck and cavern exploration; this mask eliminates the aforementioned nuisances and greatly improved your field of view with a crystal clear face shield. Although I ordered mine with a Buddy Phone, I do not recommend that investment unless you know someone with one. It is a little uncomfortable to wear and it takes some practice to communicate through it with a fair degree of clarity. I know one other person that has the Buddy Phone and unless I am diving with him, I remove it from the mask. If you are an inexperienced diver and need to plug your nose to equalize, a Full Face Mask will be a bit of a challenge for you. There is a nose plug that helps with equalization and the mask comes with several different sizes to customize to your face. Over the years, I've learned to equalize by wiggling my jaw. If you are able to do this, equalizing will not be an issue for you. In my reading and research before ordering I read a lot of comments that people use up air a little faster when the initially start using a full face mask (FFM). I have not experienced this issue. I did four deep dives and a 47 min shallow (30') and finished with the same amount of air as everyone else. I recommend finding a Divemaster/Instructor that is experienced with a FFM. PADI will approve a course and you will be able to earn a FFM Specialty.

OTS compared to Ocean Reef

I was bummed that the web site said the mask was in stock, so I ordered it and paid for 2 day shipping; then a day later they sent me an email saying was on back order

OTS FFM review

i was recently using this for a six week commercial project and it definitely filled its niche. we required comms and that made this hat ideal. however, one thing i might mention on this is that this system eats batteries. i mean it goes through them like crazy. comms start to really suckin' when the batteries start dying but are really good when they're fresh. oh, and the battery compartment is not the best design; careful when opening so as not to snap off the clips. we've already sent back two i think. the comm box on the surface ate batteries at a pretty furious rate also. we replaced batteries about every 1.5 days. good notes: fits a wide range of faces, is very easy to breath. comms are good when the batteries are fresh. bad notes: tears through batteries. fogs easily and the only remedy is to clear it via standard scuba protocol: flood it and clear it. unfortunately with this, to flood it there is a huge amount of air required to clear it again. i tried using some commercial anti foggers to no avail... one other note: as i mentioned, comms can be good. if you're using this recreationally, this might mean that your SIGNIFICANT OTHER is talking to you... if you're like me i'm pretty stoked to get them diving so i'm NOT talking to them... ;)

With over 60 years of diving experience and having sold almost every full-face mask (FFM) on the market, it was easy to see there was a need for something better. A common problem with most FFM is the seal. The lack of a good seal causes the diver to use air quicker and can interfere with the diver's ability to hear if using underwater communications. With that in mind, the GFFM was designed around a double seal. This along with many other great features (i.e. semi positive pressure, quick release 2'nd stage, easy maintenance, etc.) is why you will find the Guardian is the best choice for your money when looking for a full-face mask.

The double seal 55-60 shore liquid silicone skirt with high strength polycarbonate visor (lens) was specifically designed to allow people with a small face or a slim face, especially in the temple area, to seal better. Everyone has a little different face. As divers you all know how important being able to equalize is. Equalizing is a challenge for all full-face masks. One size does not fit all! in to ensure everyone can equalize, OTS has put together an equalizing kit which comes with every Guardian full-face mask. The kit consists of two bases. One is a standard size without any holes. It can be adjusted up or down to fit as necessary. The other base has two holes which allow for different size pads that can be added. In the event the standard base does not work for you, one of the pads and the other base should fit the bill.

The Guardian offers an easy to adjust buckle system. OTS has made the buckles out of a tough, robust compound which should give you years of use. However, if a buckle does break, it will be easy to replace. There is one thing you won't have to worry about and that is rust. Rust is the number one cause of replacement when using metal buckles. The 5-point spider strap is just the right thickness to allow for a comfortable fit no matter what depth you go to. As you go deeper, the strap will help take up the slack. When you go shallow and everything readjusts, so will the strap keeping you snug in your Guardian FFM.

The ABV-1 Ambient Breathing Valve allows the user to breathe ambient air at the surface, conserving your tank air. It is simple to use, and its low profile keeps it out of the way. To use the device, while on the surface simply rotate the valve counterclockwise. The one-way valve will open and allow air into the FFM. The one-way valve located on the inside of the FFM ensures that your exhaled air does not go back out the valve. Your exhaled air is sent out through the second stage regulator ensuring you do not get a Co2 "building" in the FFM. The valve also is forced closed when diving. The over pressure in the FFM assures that. If you forget to close the valve before diving, the valve disc will help keep water out.

The Guardian full-face mask has a custom designed balanced downstream demand valve 2'nd stage regulator that was specifically designed for a full-face mask. OTS also realized what is involved with the maintenance of a full-face mask and regulator. They designed the 2nd stage with trouble free maintenance in mind - it is easily removed! This is important for cleaning and/or maintaining your full-face mask. The regulator has an injected molded high-impact housing for strength and durability and comes with a 32" (81.3 cm) 3/8" threaded low-pressure hose.

You paid hard earned money for your full-face mask. Why not keep it in a bag designed to store it like it is supposed to be stored. The mask bag was designed to help keep your mask in the right drying position, keeping water from pooling in your 2'nd stage regulator. It also has vents to keep good ventilation helping to stop mildew and drain holes to let water drain away from the mask. Lots of storage pockets as well. One is a dry storage compartment! The bag has a carrying handle as well as a shoulder strap. In all, it's a great investment to help keep your valuable GFFM. The Guardian Full-Face Mask is available in multiple colors and comes with an owner's manual.

The Buddy Phone D2 is a digital, micro-miniature, ultrasonic transceiver allowing communication between two or more scuba divers or surface stations. Using digital signal processing" (DSP) techniques, the Buddy Phone produces uncompromising speech clarity. The Buddy Phone D2 differs from OTS's standard Buddy Phone in that it is digitally controlled and has some fantastic new features such as: a voice menu to guide you adjust your volume, change from channel A to channel B or put the Buddy Phone in a continuous voice transmission mode.

Voice Menu: When you submerge with a D2 Buddy Phone, you will hear the voice system say, "Buddy Phone ON, frequency A (B), channel one (four), volume high (medium, low)," depending on the prior dive's settings. Changing a setting is easy and can be done while underwater. Depress the push-to-talk switch (PTT) three times quickly and hold the third depression until you hear "main menu - volume, channel, continuous transmit." When you hear the main menu selections, simply depress the PTT to select one of the choices. The unit will make the selection and go back to the receive mode. If you don't select after the menu repeats twice, the D2 Buddy Phone goes out of the main selection menu and back to the receive mode (see operators manual for a more detail explanation. Note: continuous transmit mode allows the user to talk, hands free. This was requested by many movie makers and scientist who talk on camera often).

The D2 Buddy Phone has a nominal range of 165' to 1,640' (50 to 500 meters), transmit output power of 0.5 watts PEP, uses standard frequency peak envelope power (PEP): Recall & Tone: Frequency A (channel 1) 32.768 kHz USB, Frequency B (channel 4) 31.250 kHz with an audio bandwidth of 300 to 3,000 Hz. The D2 Buddy Phones has an automatic gain control greater than 80 dB, ceramic earphones with a ceramic cylinder transducer, uses the ME-16R Hot-Mic (dynamic) or Super Mic (standard) (ceramic), is powered by a 9-volt alkaline battery (not included) with a operational depth of 130' (30 meters).
