After the very first airline trip the two corners of the frame on the back, left and right of where the handle stows showed signs of wear, the fabric is very frayed now after about 3 years of use, it should have hard plastic wear plates at those hotspots. I travel by airline 12-15 times a year and go to remote locations via helicopter, the big wheels and backpack feature are handy for getting to remote camps but it's not well suited for airline travel.

I travel for both work and pleasure. It takes some Tetris skills, but I am able to pack quite a bit of gear and clothes into this pack. I usually bring an airporter duffel as well for my return home so if I obtain any souvenirs or am too tired to neatly fold and roll each item back in its perfect spot, I can just toss the excess in there. This pack is only good if you have somewhere to stow it (i.e., hotel or friend's place) while you go on a hike or climb, but it is extremely durable and easy to travel with. I haven't used the shoulder straps yet since I usually already have a pack I am carrying. But I tested the straps at home with weight in the bag, and it will definitely be useful if not already carrying a pack, or if you are able to carry your backpack on your front, then you could carry this on your back no problem if you encounter and area that you cannot use the wheels.

We had 4 sojourn luggage for African safari in 2009 on one the wheels deteriorated after 9 years and under lifetime warranty they haves us new wheels for all 4 Recently we noticed some minor greying at a couple of seams we sent photos and they replaced 2 bags that were 10 years old We love Osprey luggage and have various different sizes Quality product from a company with quality service and warranty

I took it on a 3 week trip to Thailand. The only place I needed to use the shoulder straps and wear it like a backpack was walking on a beach. The seams and fabric couldn't handle more then 30 pounds and they ripped. The idea is great, if you are going to backpack. Most travel I do can be done with a big wheel bag and small daypack. The problem is that when you have it all in one the shoulder and waist straps take up a lot of internal space so you can't fit as much cargo inside. Also the wheels can hit your back. But it is better then a real backpack with no wheels when you don't need to wear it. Its a lot more comfortable and less tiring to wheel a bag then to wear it.

My wife and I both carry different sizes of the Sojourn bag (I carry the 80L full of her stuff and she carries the 60L full of mine...ha). In the past 5 years, these bags have been with us on over 40 trips and to 17 different countries. Whether traveling by train through Europe or trekking to a treehouse in the middle of a national park in Thailand, I've never encountered a situation where the Sojourn didn't perform and perform exceptionally well. The bag is high quality from the stitching to the wheels, handles, and zippers. This is hands down the best bag I've ever owned.

So I needed to travel for a month through several cities in Europe for work with some hiking in the Alps. My hiking gear (multiday pack, sleeping bag, bivy, pad, etc.) had to fit in the travel pack with my hiking clothes and shoes, my work clothes and shoes, my dress up for the theatre (it was a Shakespeare class after all) clothes and shoes, the books I was teaching, rain gear, warm stuff and I needed to be able to wheel from public transport to apartments and then carry up 4 or more flights of stairs in old Vienese buildings. I researched a lot of packs, and while this one is pricey, it worked extremely well. Easy to wheel, easy to carry. Huge main compartment with pockets on top and along the sides, and the inside of the zippered flap has 2 additional mesh pockets. The back where the shoulder straps zip in also has a pocket--great for programs and maps and books. The material is very sturdy with reinforced padding on the shoulders and sides. Handles are convenient for short carries and the wheels are only a little scuffed from traversing London, Oxford, Vienna, etc. My one issue is that when I bump down off curbs if I haven't lined up the wheels the bag will flip over because the weight distribution tends to be higher on the bag when it is upright. I also figured out that it will fit my 4 piece paddle and pfd on some future journey

When you travel far and pack light, the Sojourn 80L/28" (4,882 cubic inch/71cm) is the pack for the job. Already a great roller, the stowaway AG inspired backpack suspension expands your trips horizons. Rolling luggage is great, but sometimes the terrain is too rough, and you need a backpack. The Sojourn's quick deploy AG inspired ventilated backpack suspension allows this and it carries more comfortably than some competitors backpacking packs. The system is adjustable for multiple torso sizes and is removable when you need more space. In rolling mode, the dual-tube extended handle controls unwieldy loads when the going gets rough, and multiple padded and molded handles make it easy to maneuver this pack out of taxis or tuk-tuks. Extra gear can be strapped to the external daisy chains or add on a Daylite pack to added flexibility and storage. A top zippered liquids pocket, padded sidewalls, internal compression straps, fabric wings, and four zippered compartments keep your gear organized and protected. When the pack isn't fully loaded, use the straight jacket compression straps to cinch it down.
Taking hints from Osprey's own award-winning AG suspension, they created the best carrying convertible travel bag in the world. Padded air mesh in the hip belt and a tensioned mesh lumbar area distribute heavy loads and the ventilated tensioned mesh back panel keeps you dry in hot climates. Quick deploying with torso adjustment, it's removable when you need extra space for gear. Extra wide 16" (41cm) chassis stabilizes large loads and the extra-large 4.25" (11cm) wheels keep you rolling on the roughest of surfaces. The retractable Ergo Grip handle provides a comfortable grip when toting loads and injection molded base and lightweight 6061 aluminum frame add strength and durability.
Deployable Backpack Suspension - Long haul capable deployable harness, hip belt and back panel for ultimate carry comfort. Padded harness with fabric upper and air mesh contact surfaces and adjustable sternum strap with whistle. Removable Suspension Back panel suspension components are removable for increased packing capacity. Panel Access - Large panel zip opening with lockable sliders provides easy access to main compartment. Internal Compression Straps - Internal compression straps with fabric wings hold clothes securely. Internal Zippered Pockets - Four zippered pockets in main compartment keep gear organized. Built to last made from 420D nylon shadow box fabric with 1689D ballistic nylon accent and bottom. The Osprey Sojourn Wheeled 80L Duffel Bag measures (H x W x D) 28" x 14" x 14" (71cm x 35.6cm x 35.6cm), has a volume of 4,882 cubic inches (80 liters) and weighs 9 lbs. (4.1 kg) when empty.
