Good buy! I tried to overbreath one of these, hard to do. I am an OLD salt and used the same Japanese regulator for decades but parts are no longer available so I bought on of these as a "beater". I found it more than adequate for sport diving and as a spare.

I purchased this product and upon receipt took it to my local dive shop for inspection and service. I also purchased the Alpha 8 Sport Octo at the same time (used). The main reason I took it for service was to have them look over the used Octo. At the shop, my service technician didn't like the sound of the second stage primary breather. It kind of rattled inside the housing. The first stage also barely tested within spec for pressure (high side). When connected to a full tank of air, the secondary made kind of a burping, sputtery type sound of its own accord and had a light free flow. I returned it and am awaiting a full refund. Meanwhile, I placed an order for the Aqua Lung Legend LX Supreme which I tested in open water over the weekend and am in love with it. You get what you pay for, I guess. I read tons of excellent reviews on what has been characterized as a very solid, entry level, basic reg. I hope I just got a dud, but I must give it a very bad review based on my experience. I kept the used Octo and have now tested it in open water and it breaths fine, though it is apt to free flow if you don't hold it mouth side down doing giant stride, but that is not unusual. Note, if you do buy the Alpha 8, it only has one HP port so if you ever plan on needing multiple ports this is not for you, e.g. if you may want to use a transmitter plus a backup pressure gauge.

I am first time Scuba Diver, so the only thing I have had different was the equipment for training, and this item operated just as good if not better that what I starrted with.

Have used this reg for about 20 dives now ranging from warm tropical water to fairly cold lakes(40-45F) and have yet to have a problem with it. It breaths easily and isn't too heavy.

I have two of the alpha 7 this is the first alpha 8 as with the 7's the 8 is a good budget-minded divers regulator. I have had no problems with any of these reg's.I would buy it again.

Everybody wants to know would you recommend the product. Well, I bought this regulator for me a year and half ago, and I am about to buy a second one for my son. Our diving is kept to recreational depths and we stay in relatively warm water, but works great for our purposes.

Used in salt water and fresh water with no issues at all. I have not had this regulator below 90 feet but it provided consistent good operation where it was used.

I purchased this based on my own Oceanic 1st and second stage thats about 7 years old. I've never had a problem with it so i was more inclined to purchase another oceanic product. I don't do cold water diving...(50 deg max) and i don't do deep water (over 130) so the adjustability wasn't or hasn't been a need for me. However the ruggidness of these is outstanding. Like i said i've never had a problem nor do i treat these with kid gloves like some are suggested to be treated. I am confident in these so much so that i bought this for my boys to learn on.

If you believe that you shouldn't have to sacrifice performance for price, the Alpha 8 Sport is for you. The Alpha 8 is the top-performing regulator in its class, and one of the most affordably priced regulators you can buy. Oceanic's Alpha 8 second stage and SP5 first stage produce a low priced, no frills regulator system that offers easy breathing. This regulator is so rugged and economical to maintain (replacement parts are inexpensive) that it's become popular as a rental. It can be used with Air or Nitrox mixtures up to 40 % right out-of-the-box. The Alpha 8's super sturdy ABS/polycarbonate housing weighs just 6 oz. (170 g) and measures just over 2.9" (7.37 cm) in diameter. Even the cover ring is feather light and is made of anodized aircraft aluminum. The lightweight and anatomically designed mouthpiece translates into a second stage that won't cause jaw fatigue. The Alpha 8 Second Stage is a dependable downstream demand valve design.
The SP-5 first stage regulator offers all divers the opportunity to own a top performing regulator. Repeatedly rated as the best in its class, the SP-5 exceeds both Navy Class A and European CE standards. The SP-5 is a non-balanced flow-by piston designed regulator. This simple yet fail-safe design will deliver air even if there is a first stage failure. Made of marine grade chromed brass for durability and long life, the SP-5 first stage has 4 LP ports and 1 HP port with 3/8" and 7/16" threads. Regulator weighs 26 oz. (737.1 g), comes with a 30" (76.2 cm) 3/8" threaded low pressure hose, and owner's manual.
