Questions & Answers

Christine A : If this is worn as a shower cap, then will it keep hair dry?Toby M : No. it's to keep your hair out of your face and give a little warmth.JOHN A : No it will not keep your hair dry. It is a light neoprene and allows water to flow through but adds additional warmth and helps to keep your hair in place.
Shopper : Will this stay on in heavy current?Toby M : It all depends on the shape of your head. Mine moved around a little but it was still better than having my hair all over the place. I've since moved on to a beanie hood. No movement at allAnthony P : I think it would stay on in heavy current since it stayed on when I jumped off the boat into the ocean.Denise L : It was fine in choppy waves although every once in a while I found myself retying it.SERGEY R : Not really ... it just looks cool, but that is where advantages end :)KEN R : I have not dove in heavy current. However, I do like it and have not had a problem with it.CHADD S : I lost mine while snokeling but never had any problems while diving.SHERRIN H : We travel twice a year to Cozumel, Mexico. The diving there is all drift diving with currents from mild to petty wild depending on the site and time of year. Been wearing a scap for a couple of years and never had trouble with it staying in placeDAVID C : never came off in current. Once it came off on a back roll, but that was my fault for not holding it securelyJOE T : My wife used this and thought it worked well for her. Not sure if there was heavy currentLEE A : If you tie it tight enough it will stay put.GABRIELA L : I only used it in moderate current and it was fine. You will have to tie it on very tight. Sometimes I have to adjust mine in a water, but I also use heavy conditioner in my long hair, so it's really sleek and SCAP slights a bit on it, too. But I love it and use it every time I don't wear my hooded vest. Hope that helped. LISA T : Depends on the fit. Current typically isn't a problemGABRIELA L : I only used it in moderate current and it was fine. You will have to tie it on very tight. Sometimes I have to adjust mine in a water, but I also use heavy conditioner in my long hair, so it's really sleek and SCAP slights a bit on it, too. But I love it and use it every time I don't wear my hooded vest. Hope that helped. JEFF H : If you adjust the bandana so it is fairly snug you shouldn't have any problem. I wear my mask strap over it.
Shopper : will mask leak using this product?Toby M : Keep the scap OVER the mask skirt, not underAnthony P : I had no problems with leaking. The SCAP should not cause leaking since it should not be under your mask.DAWN B : no, but you want to treat the scap like you would your hair and keep it clear from the maskCHADD S : I don't wear the scap under the skirt of my mask, so there is no issue with leaking.DOUGLAS D : Hello buddy ! no your mask won't leak as long as you don't have a tucked underneath your mask ! Very simple to use, don't hassle with it at all ! Great for those dives in between warm and cold ! Have a great day ! Academy of scuba (az) <kng-shrk>DAVID S : I've had no problem with it. When it goes on it sits above the maskGERALD R : You have to have the mask in contact with your face or it will leak. If you try to have the mask seal against the skull cap it will leak. In my case, I put the mask on just below skull cap. You may need to slightly tighten the mask because the mask strap does seem to have to go on the outside of the skull cap on the back of your head. By having the mask strap on the outside of the cap, it helps it from falling off on entry into the water.HAMMER J : No if you wear the mask skirt in well.JEFF C : No. Just slide it up and put your mask on under it. After that it may slide down a bit and touch the top of your mask from the outside but no problems.HOWARD A : I haven't used a hood/mask combo in over 30 years but I never recall trying to get a mask to seal over any material, maybe I'm misunderstanding your question. A hood or this cap ends more or less at the hair line so that the mask seals would contact skin only. The inside edges have tacky rubber "nibs" for grip, making it mandatory that you not fold up that lip, so you might have to wear it a slight bit higher on your head, which I don't see as a problem. If you try a mask over the fabric...well the fabric is pretty low profile and maybe it would seal to a slow leak, but I'm sure it would leak at least at the fabric to skin margin. Also, if you would be ditch/donning your mask underwater, you might lose the cap. The cap is meant to be cool alternative to a swim cap. It stays on, doesnt pull my precious remaining hair out, is quite confortable. Never thought to wear it with a mask and wouldnt recommend it for that purpose but for what it is...superb product. I'm sure I still look like a dork in it, but that's just me.ERNEST T : I bought a skull cap for a week long diving trip to Bonaire. I did 12 dives and did not have a problem with my mask leaking. I can see where there might be a leaking issue if you put the top edge of the mask over the edge of the cap, but that is easy to avoid. I am very happy with the cap and saw quite a few other divers wearing them.MARIA B : Not if you put your mask under the scull cap.MIYUKI S : It will not leak as long as you put the mask underneath.PAUL A : no you put the scap above the mask. worked greatROBERT D : Mask needs to be under the scap.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Nicolaas D : UV protection of ears and headSEAN M : I have seen other divers using it and I thought I would give it a try.WILLIAM S : Diving Cozumel next week, little protection for my nogginMICHAEL M : I purchased this for diving in warmer climates where a hood is not necessary but I still need to keep from getting sunburned when on the surface. Advertised for long hair but bald folks need it to keep the sun off :)CHARLES R : I saw it recommended on a scuba message board. I picked the red floral as it reminded me of Magnum P.I.JULIE G : To keep my long hair from getting tangled up & knotted while scuba diving & snorkeling.SANDRA O : Need 2nd oneMary G : I’ve used these before many times and love them!Tyler H : I have long hair, hopefully this helps to control it while diving!Dyana F : Price, looks comfortable, good reviews.Andrew C : Balding and my head gets cold diving even in warm water. Previously used a Scuba do rag (for 15 years) and was happy with it but the original is about 50% more than this item. Time will tell whether it was a wise decisionGeorgia L : The Skull Cap looked like an upbeat way to wear a swim cap.DORIE V : My old one bit the dust, needed a replacement.RUSSELL F : To protect my head from sun burn mostly.Tracy D : I have very long hair and it gets in the way of my mask fitting properly. It also gets very tangly post dives.TRENT S : I had a scap before and really liked it. I had just lost it on a dive unfortunately, as I forgot to put my mask strap over it to keep it secure.CHARLENE A : My friend had this cap when we dove in LaPaz. It stayed on really well.PHIL D : My wife has long thick hair and always fouls in her mask or equipment. this skull cap will hopefully alleviate the problemDAVID E : I asked another diver about his Scap, and liked the idea of a head covering that would provide some insulation and protection without the bulk of a full hood.Janna G : Trying to keep my hair under control and out of the way. Mizu said it stays on well with the tie in the back - AND... it comes in great colors!DANA K : These seemed to be more and more popular. I used to wear a Caribbean hood (kind of like a modified swim cap in neoprene) for a little warmth, or no cap at all. Photos of me in a Caribbean hood? Not good at all. :( This one is easy to put on, and provides just that bit of warmth in 80*F+ water. Once you put it on, tie the back in a square knot, and leave it that way for future dives.

Great swim cap alternative!

This cap was perfect for my trip. I went snorkeling and cliff jumping and needed something that would stay on my head. This didn?t move and was much more comfortable than a regular swim cap and looked much better too!

worth it

The SCAP is a great way to keep a little warmer for all-day diving, and keep your hair out of your face, first stage, and mask strap.

Keeps the burn off my head

It stay on as good as can be expected, but I did almost loose it a few times until I learned to make certain the knot is below my mask strap. Now it stays put.

SCAP Neoprene skull cap

Excellent product. Fits well, no slippage for those of use who may be hair challenged. I has a scuba rag for a number of years but lost it when jumping in from a boat, this product stayed tight and kept the noggin warm- an excellent product, well worth the price

scap

This functions pretty well. It is not nearly as bright of color as the picture of the product on line. It functions well, I just wish it was more colorful.

Great for warm waters!

The scap worked great in the tropics at keeping my head warm and my hair out of my face. I bought this instead of a skull cap because I’d rather not have anything under my chin. The only thing I didn’t like is that it slides out of place a bit when putting the mask on and taking it off, even with the little grippers built in, which is the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars.

good purchase

It took some getting used to, but I'm sure has saved my scalp for getting burned on a few occasions already!. Stays in place and good construction. My dive buddy said I looked cool wearing it, and I need all the help I can get along those lines! Nice product.

Good comfortable hood alternative

I liked this scap very mutch. It was comfortable and helped keep my head warm. It was not too hot, even when I was diving in Fiji with 78 degree water temps. The only problem I had was it would catch the water and pull off if I did a backward roll off the dive boat. This was only because my left hand was holding a dive camera and not the back of the scap with my right hand holding my mask and reg. It was most useful for snorkeling, keeping the top of my head from getting sunburned, an area difficult to apply sun screen to. Overall good buy.

scap

The material, and construction is good. However I have thick medium length hair, and it would not stay on my head. It would tighten down, and then slip off. Perhaps making a larger size would fix this

Jaunty and comfortable

This cap was a big hit with my companions on a whale-watching and snorkeling vacation in Tonga. It was a bit strange for me because I'm not used to being the person with the "hip" look. I like how it works too. It goes on easily; it's comfortable; it kept my hair out of my eyes and out of the way of my mask and snorkel - and it does have a jaunty look.

Awesome

These Skull caps are great! They so so much more comfortable than those bennies with the strap! We just used them for 4 Days, 10 dives , in Florida as added jellyfish protection. They stay on great and are very comfortable! Everyone needs them in their gear bag !!

Nice Alternative

I normally wear a Lavacore hood when I scuba dive but needed something to cover my head when I'm just snorkeling since wearing a hood isn't as practical or comfortable in that circumstance and frankly, just looks like overkill, even if you're in a full wetsuit. The SCAP worked great when I tried it out in choppy 2 foot seas at Looe Key Reef in the Florida Keys and it stayed on my head without problem when doing a giant stride off the snorkeling boat since the mask strap was over it. Like someone else said, I also like that it doesn't cover my ears completely so that I can hear better when talking to buddies on the surface which is a problem with a full hood on. The blue camo color happens to match my blue camo mask strap cover perfectly and it also looks great with my blue Atomic subframe mask. I'm looking forward to trying it out in place of my hood the next time I go diving and will be interested to see how warm it is in the 70 degree springs.

Helps tame my long hair

I have struggled to find a way to tame my long hair with something that did not fall off or interfere with my mask seal. This did the job perfectly, I don't think I can ever dive again without it. I got the skull and crossbones one and I am easily recognizable underwater as well. My mask strap does not move around when I am diving (an issue I had with other caps/beanies I have tried) and this STAYS IN PLACE on my head. I balked at the price a little but it is worth it and if something ever happens to the one I have I will not hesitate to purchase again.

Nice Cap

I really liked this cap because of the feel. It is light and comfortable and does not cover my ears which is a big deal for me because I have a hard time clearing my ears while diving. I looks awesome too.

Great head protection for bald guys!

Ordered this for my husband, who is bald, and he loves it. His head was always getting sunburnt just from before and after dives, but this is great protection. Also keeps his head warm, as it is like a little wetsuit for your head.

SCAP Headwear

I found that the SCAP will stay in place while performing a giant step water entry. It adds a little bit of additional warmth in the 66° temps of the Florida springs as well. The red dive flag SCAP model is sort of a muted red color. I also ordered the brighter red Hilma Hooker model too. I plan to use this cap primarily for UV protection.

Size matters I wish they had a size choice I would have preferred mine to be a little smaller I have a small hat size and that does make a difference and requires manipulation with the dive mask Overall the service and the company are great
