Great board!

Only 1 outing so far, but the 126 was great! One observation is that the side rails/chambers (which hold a lower volume of air and less PSI) are difficult to inflate to a high enough pressure to make them serve their intended purpose. They are supposed to create a noticeable ridge above water (to create the drop deck feature) and below water (to assist with tracking), but when the pump nozzle is removed from the valve and air naturally escapes, it seems to me that enough air/pressure is being lost (remember that the side chambers are low volume to begin with) so as to negate the creation of noticeable ridges/rails which defeats the purpose of such a feature. Overall, I love the board and will continue playing around with the side rails/chambers issue. My biggest fear is damage due to overinflation or increasing pressure from heat.

Good board, not so great pump

I have been paddling for years on a 14' wooden CLC touring board that is great for bay use where I normally am. Decided I wanted the flexibility of an inflatable for lots of other situations, but one that would still be reasonably fast and handle light chop. I bought the Clipper 126 (not the 126W) while skeptical that the shorter length would perform well for me (I am 6'2, ~210lbs). I am generally pleased, although like another commenter I'd be interested in trying a 14' version of this. I found it tracks well, is plenty stable, moves reasonably fast, and surprisingly doesn't get too blown around by the wind. It can get slightly bouncy in chop, but frankly for an inflatable I didn't find it too bad. I like the "rail" concept for an inflatable SUP, but the rails only get inflated to 5psi, and after I had pumped up the main chamber to ~18psi, there wasn't a lot of room to put more air into the rails, they somehow were already at pressure. I'm ultimately not sure how meaningful that rail concept is. I did find it odd that there is no documentation that comes with the SUP, even though it is mostly self explanatory. My biggest negative is with the pump - the valve connection does not form a great seal, and when you are pumping to 20psi, every bit of leakage matters. It takes a LOT of pumping. The pressure gauge also is questionable, especially at the lower psi's needed for the rail (5psi), it doesn't seem the slightest bit accurate.

Good, but could be great!

This is my third NRS/Star iSUP. I also have a Starboard solid touring. I purchased the 126 version of this board. It's generally stable enough, tracks well, and gets up to speed alright but struggles somewhat to keep speed likely due to some issues I reference below. It's balanced well at the handle for carrying and the bungees front and rear are great. Construction seems excellent as always with NRS products. Now the negatives. I would likely give this a 3.5 if possible. First the deck. It's supposed to be a drop deck but I really think the deck is only slightly lowered at the bow where the V-hull is. The standing portion of the deck does not actually seem to be lowered, rather, the separate side chambers simply inflate above the deck to make it appear lowered. Therefore, I don't see or feel any balance benefit from this design. Another issue for me is the pronounced rocker bow and stern. The board already only actually measures 12' 3" and with the front and rear rockered out of the water so much, I feel that potential tracking and speed could be lost. And my final concern is the length. This board is fine at 126, but it could be excellent at 140. As a "premium touring board" a 140 length could give better capacity, better tracking, and better speed. Honestly, my other quibbles would be negligible if the length was more on target for the overall intent of the board. As the main, and premium touring board in the NRS line, the 140 length would be a welcome addition. Otherwise, this will serve well as a good rec board for me, and a good second board for friends and family to use. Still love the NRS brand.

Excellent SUP board for Hudson River ventures

I only started SUP'n this spring though I have many years of ocean/flatwater kayaking. I bought my 110W Clipper in early June and have had it out on the Hudson River in NY for 27 paddles averaging around 6 km per excursion with my longest being just over 20 km. I am about 175 cm tall and weigh around 70 kg (154lb). This board is an excellent match for the challenges of paddle boarding on the Hudson River, which is really an estuary with significant tidal currents in the Mid-Hudson Valley region around Kingston, NY. I often get out for a short paddle on the river before work and try to get in a longer paddle on the river once a week. It is a pleasure to paddle and so easy to get on and off the river. When I am paddling with the current and not against the wind it is remarkable how fast I can go. I have not taken out on a large lake or the ocean yet. Sometimes I am paddling against the river estuary tidal current and/or the wind, and the wind-driven chop and the board has always met the challenge and offered an excellent workout. Occasionally, the mix of current/wind waves and boat wakes from passing tankers or deep-hulled pleasure craft result in a chaotic mess of waves. After learning how to handle those conditions on this board I have actually enjoyed the challenge of not getting tossed into the river (unless I want to on a hot day). I try to keep the board inflated to the recommended 20 psi and find that I need to give it a few pumps to get it back up to full pressure once every 2-3 weeks. The board practically lives on the top of my car so it is always ready for a quick trip on the river. My 5.5 m P&H Cetus MV kayak is getting jealous. I live part time in Seward, AK and have an NRS Judko 108 there. The Judko is nice and stable but I think it will be the family board for my daughter's family and I may get a 120 Clipper for longer paddles along the Kenai Fjords coast. As for customer service, the first time I had to inflate the Judko I was still a novice and had to call for a little assistance. I only spoke with a person - no AI bot - who was very friendly and helpful. Kudos NRS!

Great design and performance

I am extremely pleased with the Clipper 126! I have used it eight times now, primarily on lakes for exercise. I am 6'2" and 155 lbs. I previously owned an NRS Earl 6 (10.5' x 30"). After seven years, I decided I wanted a longer board for better efficiency, but still light enough to easily load it on my roof racks when partially inflated. At 29" wide, it is narrower than what I was used to, but it feels at least as stable if not more. The side rails (max 5 psi) help me orient my standing position for optimal stability. The nose design enables it to slice through waves from motor boats. I can paddle against a wind and maintain a steady pace. I also appreciate the aesthetics, which is of course a personal preference. I like the symmetrical lines and its pleasing but subtle colors. One tip: if you're new to inflatables, you don't need to inflate it to the max 20 psi, especially on a hot sunny day (I live in Atlanta, GA). I have only inflated mine to 15 psi and it performs great. I cannot speak to its long-term durability yet. So far, I feel like NRS designed a real winner in the Clipper 126!
