Mares Cyrano Evo HF Spear Gun

I have been a great fan of pneumatic spearguns since the 70's. At the time I had a Nemrod, a brand that has closed since then. However Mares is still here and does an excellent job with its products, Cressi is very good too, and I have two Cressi spearguns too. However, I use them us spares because they both suffer from an inferior trigger (too hard). With repect to the Mares Cyrano EVO, the truth us that I have not test it underwater, so I can only say how good it feels and hos superior is its craftsmanship and attention to details. It is also very light and has a very well-made bag for all its accessories. It arrived loaded so I presume the pressure should be optimum. Perhaps a note about the initial pressure would be useful, even though I realize there might be small losses on its way to the factory. Pressing down the shaft indicates that it should be enough for few test shots (ALWAYS) underwater. If I am to look for a fault, this is the shaft that has an integral spear point. Of course such a powerful weapon should not be normally used with a trident, but a fisherman may wants to use a point with two barbs, or even a power-head. Besides that I have no other complains and I still give it five stars far ahead of the competition. However, I reserve the right to continue my review at a later time after a dive.

It's my 3rd Cyrano speargun... it's a wonderful machine, it's powerful, their accurately is perfect, excellent buoyancy (neutral when it's loaded). Their size is more compact than same band speargun. I love it.

I have always used Mares pneumatic guns. I have Mirages 100, yes, they don´t make them anymore and they sure were the finest and most powerful guns ever made with that 8 mm shaft. But Mares technology always goes forward, I also have the Cyranos, great guns, but this new Cyrano EVO HF is simply great: Very maneuverable, easy to handle, powerful, fast, accurate and very silent. The Mares original shaft are very sorry and bend easy, get the after market stainless steel shafts, never let you down! The reason about dropping from 8 mm to 7 mm is the agility and quickness of the 7 mm one and its accuracy. As I said before, if you get some good SS shafts, you'll be more than happy. Try it, go one step higher, it's a superior gun from every point of view...Advanced technology!

well actually i haven't used on the ocean yet because i noticed that if you try to load the spear with the max 30 bars allowed, even using the power reduction, the spear bends into a curve shape, and that is not safe, plus if you bend the spear the shoot will not be acurate. I own a Mares Mirage(they dont make it no more buah), and i can load it with 40 bars, and the spear is 8mm not 7 mm like in the Cirano, and the spear wont bend.Also the Mirage comes with a secondary tube, only to pump down the power with the power recuction, with five pumps, you can actually load it with one hand.I guess at least they shoul sale the cyrano with a 8mm or 9mm arpon instead

Its incredible quicness, buoyancy, tracking and power, makes this pneumaticgun the best in the market right now. There is no need to go the max air pressure, 28 bars is enough and you'll feel the accuracy and power of the new EVO HF. I've been using Mares pneumatic guns for over 30 years and never dissapointed me at all (Mirage 100 & Cyranos). My new EVO, is a 100 cm, easy to load, very agil under water, floats perfect without the shaft and easy to maintain. I only use it in open waters (Colombian pacific) to hunt big Amberjacks, Cubera Red Snappers and some other strong fighting fish. A super gun!!!!

Mares does it again by simply continuing making the best pnumatic guns in the market. I´ve used pneumatic guns for over 30 years and have never looked at any other brand but Mares. My new 100 cm EVO HF is simply great and very easy to maneuver, very light and has a tremendous impact power. The 7 mm shaft comes out so fast that fish don´t realize when it's been fired, usually the shaft goes all the way through... It´s very quiet like a wooden gun. Mares really applied the highest technology on these new EVO HF versions. Simply the best in the market!!

I've been using mares pneumatic guns for over 35 years and this Cyrano EVO HF 100 is probably the best one I've used so far because of its deadly accuracy, powerful and expels the 7 mm shafts extremely fast at 28-29 bars of pressure (No need to overpump it by passing the 30 bar limit zone). It's very maneuverable and amazingly quiet once you pull the smooth trigger. Overall: Probably the best pneumatic gun out in the market so far...

First off i would like to say this gun fires perfectly and like nothing i have ever had the chance to use before. It is slick in the water maneuverability is much quicker than a banded gun. The power is unbelievable on full power probably comparable to a triple banded riffe, I almost never would fire it on full power except for open ocean. It also is whisper quiet compared to a banded gun. This all being said my first trip in the water with this gun was a disaster... I had not set up the reel due to the line that comes with this gun being terrible. so i figured id test it out with the standard line release. This broke after the first shot and i was forced to hold the line in my hand for the rest of the dive. then sometime later in the dive my reel broke off and it was lost in the ocean. Still have no idea how it broke off.. But after looking at the connection of the reel to the gun it was easy to tell that it was cheap plastic. i suggest buying this gun without the reel.

Spearfishing South florida waters, this gun is top notch. The way it feels, how easily it is to aim out of it, the way you maneuver the weapon from side to side while underwater is a breeze. The power is addicting and not as noisy as I thought.
