This is a solid reel, but seems to have a propensity to birdcage where the line wraps around the shaft and not the reel. There are better designed reels out there, but for the price this one is not bad if you pay attention when winding the line back in.

I have owned four of the bargain priced reels from my local dive shop. He stopped replacing them because they were breaking so fast. This Manta reel is bulletproof

This was a great reel to use for deep dives to lay some line in a low vis situation and to shoot a bag deep during your deco stops. Easy use and a very positive locking function without having to tighten knobs.

Purchased this reel to use during my Posiedon CCR class. We were required to have a reel to deploy our SMB's from depth. Shooting the buoy went flawlessly with no hold ups in the deployment of the line, which is particularly helpful when shooting from 95' down. Ascent went just as well with a smooth, fluid reeling action, and stop notches on the spool itself assist while holding at different depths for deco/safety stops. The only thing I strongly recommend is to buy a 2" stainless steel ring and tie your line on that. Will help with tying on to wrecks for penetration, or onto your SMB more quickly. Also if you'll be using this reel in cooler climates, strongly suggest getting a bigger clip as the one supplied is a little difficult to work while using gloves. Overall an excellent, well made product.
