Breakaway tips - a must-have item for serious spearfishing

Breakaway tips are essential for big fish, IMO. It will usually prevent the fish from gaining any leverage to tear out the spear tip. and prevents big fish from bending your spear shaft ($$$). I prefer the rock point even when not shooting around rocks. The tri-edge sharp points cut the flesh, sometimes resulting in loss of the fish because it tears the point out. Rock points puncture the flesh without tearing it, making escape more unlikely. If you are shooting anything bigger than perch or rockfish, you need a breakaway tip. I have taken large halibut, lingcod, and even yellowtail and mahi-mahi with these tips. Good hunting!

Work well when works

It is a little thick to use on a pole spear. You have to make sure to have a lot of tension and release cleanly to make it all the way through a large fish. Also the washer seems to be on the large side and does not break away easily. But when it does plow through a fish and breaks away it works wonderfully. Caught some larger agressive fish that I wouldn't have been as confident to go after, after i worked out the kinks

Stainless Spearpoint

Tip was O.K, but needed a bit of silicon grease to release properly. Female threads were a bit loose, and needed some Lock -tite. Same part was a bit soft and bent pretty easily... I usually make my own tips, so Im picky. Overall, the tip works as advertised.

I have 4 shots and 4 fish with this speargun and breakaway spear-tip! I am extremely happy with this JBL combination.

Designed for large powerful fish this breakaway has a 4" (102mm) wingspan and comes in 6, 7mm or 5/16" threaded end and its 3/8" (9.5mm) standard profile opens a large hole for easy passage of barbs through the fish, one shot is all you will ever need with this tip. Tip is hardened 17-4 stainless and features a multi-braid stainless cable in 1/16" (2mm) and 3/32" (2.38 mm) diameters.

This tips detachable bushing and cable hangs on no matter how hard the fight while minimizing damage to your spear shaft. The low-profile, double barbed design allows for pinpoint accuracy and dependable deployment. Wing retainer allows for easy removal from the fish. Don't trust a once in a lifetime fish to anything else. Tip is for medium to large fish.
