CHRISTOPHER P : How accurate is sizing chart? I wear a size 11 wet suit dive boot. I just bought a Bare HD Expedition Dry Suit from you guys that incorporates a size 13 boot so I need a sock that will take up some room. Should i get a size large or go one size up to extra large in this sock?PAUL L : The socks run true to the size chart. I also have a bare dry suit size 11 boot size large attic sock. It fits right in my boot and in my case I don't want extra space. But to have a sock fit large enough for a extra sock for really cold water is perfect. The artic sock has kept me warm for an hour in 41 degree water. But having an sock with too much room has kept me cold. So in my opinion wear the right size sock and if the boot is to big you can change it out. Having to large of a boot sometimes makes a muddy shore entry or walking somewhat awkward.joan h : The sizing chart is not correct. I use size 8 in women's shoes and started out ordering size S, then M, and then finally size L; which fits perfectly!JAMES P : I wear a size 11 shoe, and went with the X-Large. I worn them with, and without, socks under, and have not had any issues. I think if I went with the large, I would have a hard time getting them on and off, and probably would have a hard time with socks under them. Go with the XL.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?ANTHONY C : Because my local dive shop couldn't get this item. There vendor had this item on back order.CRAIG A : I snow camp in very cold temps, most mountaineering equipment is bulky and insulated with down or other poly insulate. I'm also a surfer, have surfed in cold water, have a fleeced lined wetsuit. Occurred to me that your dry suit socks could be very useful to keep my feet warm in the tent and tight mummy bag without all the bulk. Can slide them easily into my down camp booties when I need to go outside.JOHN C : Going to dive very cold waterPAUL M : I'm prepping for my dry suit class and my feet are always the first thing to get cold in any water temperature. These were recommended by a dive buddy who is familiar with my "cold feet". I have a pair of Fourth Element boots that I wear year round and they have only failed my feet when I have made poor decisions.

Run small

I have yet to dive with these but they run small. I am a US women size 6.5-7, usually a size 7. The XS socks are a little too small for me. I'd say these run at least a half size smaller than listed and suggest sizing up.

Worth the money

Feet very cozy after 85 minute dive in 41 degree water. Considering a good pair of wool socks are over $20 this is well worth the money for this type of warmth.

Good socks, spendy but warm

Protect the extremities. That's what one of the famous explorers said, and it's true that if your feet get cold on a dive, concentration can waver, and an otherwise fantastic dive can be marred by discomfort. From fin socks, designed to alleviate the rubbing from a full foot fin or keep the feet a bit warmer and comfortable in neoprene boots, to the Hotfoot and Hotfoot Pro, a dry suit sock with a water resistant outer layer, there is always a fourth element solution to keeping the feet warm.

The Arctic socks, completes the thermal protection system, offering low bulk thermal protection to the extremities. The two-layer construction is warm and comfortable, and the inner liner can be pulled out from the outer liner to speed drying times. The Fourth Element Arctic Socks combine the outstanding performance of the Xerotherm with additional thermal layering; the Arctic is the next stage in the development of a high-performance system for divers in the most extreme environmental conditions.Fast wicking, high insulation fabrics, the Arctic creates a micro climate around the wearer, keeping the body dry and warm. A high density inner fleece provides superior insulation, with maximum comfort and wicking, whilst the outer layer, which has a water repellant finish, ensures a snug fit.

Suitable for year-rounduse underneath dry suits; the Arctic, builds on the performance of the Xerotherm base layer to be the perfect lightweight under suit for dry suit diving. The Arctic fabricwill also continue to perform when wet. In situations even when a dry suit has flooded, the Arctic continues to provide thermal protection. In many cases of minor leaks, you simply will not notice as the Arctic is so efficient at wicking water away from the skin and keeping you warm. All seams are flat stitched for added comfort as an under garment. Socks are available in multiple sizes.

Fourth Element is not available for sale outside the US and Canada from this on-line store.
