Given the high cost of excess weight for checked baggage, anything you can do to reduce equipment weight will save money in the long run. After trying to use rental BCs, I decided to purchase a light-weight travel BC. I saved 1.5 lbs with this one. Used it for a week of diving under the Blue Heron Bridge in Palm Beach and on Breakers Reef offshore. Comfortable, simple to trim buoyancy. Adequate D-rings to handle my attachments. Exceeded my expectations.

This is a great BC, it's assembled very sturdy. It is the combination of a backplate and wing but you are not able to separate them. The harness works very similar to the Dive Rite harness and is very comfortable. It is very streamlined. The wing is only 27lbs but one has to remember that the BC is not as buoyant as a jacket BC so you will require less weights and thus less lift. I am 6'1 220 and wear an XL, It has plenty of lift to hold my head above water and because I am properly weighed I don't use all of the lift. This BC can be folded but not recommended but it fits inside a large Backpack, so you could have this BC and other SCUBA equipment in a backpack and attach the fins to the side. Great for travel. Don't be turned off by the 27lbs wing, unless you are doing cold water diving in salt water and require lots of weight. But for the rec diver who wears 3mm suits or even 5mm suits and use 16lbs or less worth of lead this BC will do great, it's like wearing a hiking backpack.

Save travel weight

The Travel-Pac is a recreational BCD for warm water diving where minimal weight is required. At 25 lbs. (11.3 kg) of lift, the Travel-Pac will support one 80 cubic foot (12 liter) aluminum tank with additional weight not to exceed 10 lbs. (4.5 kg). The Travel-Pac is a highly streamlined back inflate BCD that has the advantages of putting buoyancy where it is most needed for horizontal trim throughout the torso supporting the weight of the tank. No squeezes or uncomfortable restrictions that can happen with a jacket style BC. The 360° donut wing provides even inflation and won't tip divers while floating at the surface.
Extremely rugged, the Travel-Pac is designed for long-term use based on a hybrid design of Dive Rite's Travel-Pac harness and Travel EXP wing. Dive Rite has used the same materials and craftsmanship that goes into their technical BCDs, yet simplified the Travel-Pac to have less hardware, making it a lighter weight BCD that is ideal for travel, plus its design allows it to pack flat in a suitcase. Its ruggedness is enhanced with a 1680-denier ballistic nylon outer bag and a heavy-duty, 210 denier nylon urethane laminated bladder, backed by Dive Rite's limited lifetime warranty.
The Travel-Pac comes standard with a 1.5" (3.8 cm) crotch strap, used by advanced divers to keep the rig stable and moving with the body. Weight pockets are optional, depending on diver preference. Hardware is streamlined with one epaulet on the left shoulder, attachment of accessory items is accommodated with 2 bent chest D-rings and 2 waist D-rings. The Travel-Pac side plates are narrower and give more room on the waist belt for accessories. The Travel-Pac harness assembly is comprised of adjustable torso shoulder straps, sternum strap, waist belt with stainless steel latch style buckle and the crotch strap. All straps are equipped with squeeze-style" side-release buckles for easy donning and doffing. Cylinder mounting is accomplished with one standard 36" (91.4 cm) cam strap w/stainless steel buckle. Buoyancy control is provided by an elbowed inflator and a lower left front over pressure relief/dump valve. The Travel-Pac measures (H x W) 22" x 14" (55.9 cm x 35.6 cm), weighs 5 lbs. 13 oz. (2.62 kg), comes with an 3/8" threaded low pressure hose, owner's manual and is made in the U.S.A.
