In the early days of cave diving, reels were not available to buy off the shelf. Divers used anything they could, including empty electrical wire spools. When exploring, divers would pay out the line and if they didn't empty the spool it would be left in the cave for the next dive. Cave diving pioneer, Woody Jasper, used a medical tape spool with cover to hold that short length of safety line. Today, these stainless-steel finger spools are as rugged as they come. Crafted of 16-gauge 304L stainless-steel for durability in marine environments, these reels are TIG welded and then electro-polished.
Available with a 30' (9.2 m) line, the stainless-steel spool is compact with a narrow footprint as compared to similar plastic spools, giving the diver the advantage of saving real estate or carrying multiple spools easily. Smooth edges provide comfort and an easily held ergonomic design. The holes in the side allow for clipping in a double-ended snap anywhere along the perimeter of the spool to keep the line tight when not in use. Included with the finger spool is a premium quality, marine-grade stainless-steel double-ended bolt snap that provides smooth operation and .073" (1.86mm) diameter white, DuPont fiber braid #24-line with breakage strength of 220 lbs. (99.80 kg).
