Questions & Answers

MARTIN L : is it good as a dive flag holder?KEVIN F : You could use it for that.ROBERT L : never used it for that purpose.JULIO O : SureGALIN T : May be for shallow dives, but certainly not for deep ones.
David R : For the 125' line, when all of the line is on the spool, are the holes accessible for the bolt snap (as shown in the photo), or are they covered by the reeled up line?CARTER P : You can clip the holes when the entire line is spooled.JACQUELINE P : Yes the holes are accessible. Just a note, I discovered that using two sided velcro wrapped around the string is a good way to keep the string in place not in use and easy to pull off when you need to use the string and reel.MONICA D : Yes, they are; but you may have to push the line a little.COLIN M : Yes, the holes in the spool are exposed so you can clip into them to secure the line.MICHAEL C : If the line is evenly distributed on the spool, it is difficult to hook. I reel the line a little off to one side and it is fine.TODD R : Yes, no problem.GREG P : Yes, it looks Just like the photo.TUGBERK H : You can easily access every hole on the spool as shown at the photo of the product.J MICHAEL W : Both my son and I bought these finger spools and have used them many times. The holes are exposed with the line on the reel allowing access for the snap exactly as shown. We are both very pleased with this item.JUDITH J : You may have to work at it, i.e. twist the bolt to go through a given hole, but it is not a problem to do so.JAMES J : No they are not covered up on mine. I am assuming that is how much line I have. I have only measured out 50 feet.
Shopper : looking for a spool to use in cold water...is this easy to spool out with gloves on ?Peter D : I find these little thumb spools to be a little tricky to operate even with bare hands. I have never used another type of spool but my guess is that this is not ideal for gloved use in cold water. On the other hand, it is pretty small and that is why I bought it. :-)JEFF I : Depends on the gloves, I would think 3mm would be fine. This is not a cave reel, I would use it as it describes, a gap reel/short distance, more for towing a dive flag or to perform search patterns.
john s : Can this product be used to attach a kayak to an anchor. What is the line strength?GREG P : Not sure of lb test of this line. It would probably work for awhile but wear out from continued use of this type.Peter D : I would say no. It is too thin and not durable enough for tethering a kayak.JUNE H : It is not suitable for kayaks. It is a small finger spool used most commonly with Surface Marker Buoys.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JOSHUA A : Can’t go wrong with Dive-Rite!DOUGLAS P : Small reel for signalling float, coming up from a dive in boat waters.LUIS M : Needed a finger reel for my submersible marker buoy.LAWRENCE D E : Always wanted oneTENNEY F : Basic safety sausage reelANDREW B : Dive rite makes top-notch products for technical/cave diving, and this is the best price for this reel I could find.REGINA L : Safety. To deploy SMB for drift diving and to mark safety decomp stop. Wouldn't recommend as a primary reel for wreck or cave diving. Dive Rite quality and value.

good...

Good item, good price. But darn, I lost it. And then I came back to LP and bought a similar product with Brass Snap Bolt. Thought I wouldn't like the brass snap bolt (I've got plenty of SS snap bolts that I could substitute) but surprise - I like the brass snap bolts better. See my other review on LP.

Great Spool

By AMBER G.

Light weight, cord seems strong, and easy to use.

In the early days of cave diving, reels were not available to buy off the shelf. Divers used anything they could, including empty electrical wire spools. When exploring, divers would pay out the line and if they didn't empty the spool it would be left in the cave for the next dive. Cave diving pioneer, Woody Jasper, used a medical tape spool with cover to hold that short length of safety line. Today, Dive Rite's Finger Spools are most often used as a gap reel or for short distance exploration. Small and low-profile, a spool fits nicely out of the way in a pocket or clipped off to a D-ring.

The holes in the side allow for clipping in a double-ended snap anywhere along the perimeter of the spool to keep the line tight when not in use. Dive Rite Finger Spools are made of corrosion proof injection molded POM acetal plastic; finger spools are simple to use and virtually indestructible in the water. The finger spool is available in 2-line lengths and 2-line colors of 60' or 120' (18.3m or 36.6m) in white or orange 0.073" (1.86mm) diameter DuPont fiber braid #24-line or orange Dacron that does not stretch with breakage strength of 220 lbs (99.80kg). Spools come standard with a large stainless-steel double ended snap clip. Finger spool weighs 6.4 oz (181g) and measure (Dia. x W) 3.47 x 1.65" (8.8 x 4.2cm).
