Questions & Answers

MANFRED J : Hi, just a quick question. I am buying this to attach to a conventional BCD so this is my first crotch strap. I'm just wondering about the attachment. In the pic I see a loop on one end bit what about the other side? How does the other side attach? Thank in advance.MICHAEL S : The loop you see goes in front and is meant to slide onto a 2" webbing belt such as the straps on a backplate for tech diving. If your BCD only has a cummerbund and no belt this crotch will not work for you. The other end loops through a slot in the backplate and is secured by doubling it through a double slotted slide, kind of like a skinny weight keeper. Again, a conventional BCD may or may not have a slot for this in back. The plastic "backplate" on some conventional BCDs has a slot, but it is usually not wide enough for a 2" crotch strap, in which case I suggest a 1" crotch strap.WILLIAM D F : The strap is usually part of a plate and wings BC. The plain end threads through slots in the plate. The D-ring is used as an attachment point for items like spools. The belt from the BC threads through the crotch strap loop.KENNETH C : The belt or harness connector on the front of your BC/BCD harness waist threads through the loop that you see. The tail end of the crotch strap goes through either a D-Ring or slot on the back of your BCD or your backplate (whatever you have). Then it doubles back onto itself and fees through the D-Ring keeper that you see about 3/4ths of the way down the crotch strap near the tail end. Search YouTube for "crotch strap attach" and you'll find a Dive Rite instructional video. -Cheers, Ken.SCOTT S : Typically the strap end is threaded through the backplate and through a buckle that may or may not be included. On my backplate, I used a heated nail to melt 2 holes through the folded strap, and a combination of bolts washers and nuts to secure the end of the strap. Use all stainless steel hardware if you decide to go this route. Hope this helps.

Crotch Strap keeps it down

Quality make and a very sturdy option-- Note that this is made from the normal webbing material that is woven through he backplate. Some folks prefer this and not the softer style if they are looking for a bit more strength in the strap (e.g. if you are using a scooter). Some folks that aren't diving full wetsuits or drysuits may think that this is too stiff and that the neoprene sleeve that is included to soften the strap is not enough to wear with shorts alone. This is going to the wife who usually uses a 5mil when I am in a rash guard--but she was still happy after a few hours in a bathing suit in the pool. I prefer the halcyon soft crotch strap I have.

Crucial for BPW setups

This is a solid one piece strap. Even though my backplate is cut for a 1 inch, I was able to work it through the plate. I had a 1" and it was both uncomfortable and too small for my liking when I attached my scooter.

Well built

Added this to a standard back-inflation BCD that tended to ride up and cause trim problems. Had to add a small strap to the back - but it works really well.

awsome addition to my zeagle

By ScubaDave

This was a great addition to my zeagle express, made the bc more secure and enjoyable to dive with.

Preferred by divers who use scooters (DPVs) for extended periods of time due to the added comfort the 2" (5.1cm) width webbing provides. Used for fastening a harness and back plate securely to a diver's body, the 2" (5.1cm) crotch strap is used to reduce the likelihood of gear slipping upwards on the diver's body while in the water, resulting in the tank hitting the back of the head during a dive.

Continuous 42" (106.7cm) piece of nylon webbing provides security with 2,800 lbs (1,270kg) of tensile strength yet is soft and won't dig into the body. Crotch strap includes aneoprenerubber sleeve to protect exposure suit from abrasion and add comfort. Crotch strap comes with welded 304-stainless steel scooter ring for attachment to scooter leash, weighs 6 oz (170g) and is made in the U.S.A.
TransPac Harnesses made prior to Sept. 2008: When diving a 2" (5.1cm) crotch strap a BC1059 Crotch Strap Adapter is necessary to attach the crotch strap to the 1" (2.5cm) D-ring on the TransPac.
