Questions & Answers

Henry K : I wear size 11 shoe but I want to wear 5 mm socks because it is cold where I dive Do I really want to wear 5 mm socks ? And what size would I get if I did get if I wore  5mm. I see most people never buy 5 mm socks in the reviews and say to buy 3 mm socks and your shoe size. I am new to full foot fins Thanks to Everybody that helpsMario C : Its sort of personal preference, some divers even in cold water will opt for different thicknesses and sometimes even no socks. The sizing of that fin does take in consideration diver is wearing 3-5mm socks.. most people that decide to use it barefooted will have a size down.
GORDIAN R : What is the weight?MICHAEL W W : 4.2 lbs. approximately. 34 inches in length, so you have to be sure your dive bag will accommodate them. I use a ScubaPro wheeled bag.
Russell B : Can anyone tell me the length of this fin in inches?Mike T : Hi Russell, The length of the fin depends on the size. The length ranges any were from 33-35 inchesSCOTT A : Overall length is 34 inches.KENJI I : 32 1/2 inches
Shopper : do you order larger fins if you are going to wear booties?RICARDO F : No, I do not order larger fins. I wear Akona booties that prevent any chafing; however, they are thin enough to not require a larger fin size.B C : Not necessarily. It will all depend on how thick a sock you chose and how the fin will fit you without the sock. I would use your regular size for socks up to 3mm.
Shopper : Are these fins deconstructable for traveling? If not is there a carrying case designed to carry them?BILL B : The blades are one piece and do not come apart but they can go in a suitcase. I packed them in a 26" suitcase. While the fins were warm and flexible, I bent them down in a curve to form a right angle. Then I put them on their side (pointed opposite) from one corner of the suitcase to the other corner then packed around them. After over 36 hours in the suitcase, I pulled the fins out, placed them in the sun and placed a weight on them. Dove for 10 days then packed them again the same way and came home. I still use them every weekend! They are really amazing fins after you build your leg muscles up.MARK P : no they are one piece and do not brake down. do not know about carry case.ANDREW K : they are not deconstructable, cases are on the market but they do not come with oneTOM C : No Just use dive bag but fins are lERIC S : They are not deconstructable for traveling, as the blade is non-removable from the footpocket. You can buy a canvas dive bag for them, which is what I use when traveling. That being said, they are great fins and have become my primary for both scuba and freediving.KEITH K : The fins do not break down for travel. I found myself a long narrow duffle bag, that not only was under the 60 inch limit set by the airlines. I was also able to put my 3mil wetsuit, mask and boots in the duffle with these fins also. I do not remember where I got the duffle, but it was a website I found by searching for duffle bags.DANIEL C : No they are one piece. And I don't know of any specially made bag for them but they are standard freedive size fins. They fit in my speargun bag with my guns and suits just fine.JOE B : NO, these fins do not break down. They do not fit in a normal size duffle, Cressi sells a nice team apnea duffle that I use. JoeWYN N : They are one piece. I just wrap them in a plastic kitchen trash bag and pack them in the bottom of my 36" rolling duffle for air travel. BTW, these fins are fantastic! I sized mine to use with 5mm booties and they're super comfortable, yet no sliding on my feet...so no blisters, ever. I use them for both freediving and SCUBA, and have had several professional dive masters around the world ask me where they could get them, after seeing how they perform for me. Obviously, they're not the best choice for really tight areas, or for hard-bottom shore entries (don't work with stiff soled boots), but for boat diving...fantastic! I used to use the softer LDs which were nice, but I like the stiffer 2000 HF's better, especially in warm water.RICARDO F : No, they are not deconstructable. I carry my fins in my Rife speargun case, along with my speargun. I am not aware of a carrying case; however, I would imagine something of that sort is available for purchase.JOHN G : The Gara's are not "deconstrucable" as the blades are attached to the foot pocket. They are best carried in a Cressi Apnea Team bag, or any other bag that can accomodate 36 inches of length. For the price though, they are well worth the slight inconvenience, delivering excellent acceleration and very little spillage over the edges. They are stiffer than the Gara 3000's and offer significantly more thrust.

Stiff!

These fins are seriously stiff, and require substantially more energy to kick than a standard snorkeling fin. This also means much more propulsion, so you can get moving pretty fast. I use them for amateur freediving, and they allow me to dolphin kick at a slow pace to reach depth while keeping my heartrate low. While this is my first pair of long, freediving/spearfishing style fins (so I can only compare them to snorkeling fins) I definitely recommend them, as they are durable, comfortable, and have served my purpose well.

Gara 2000 HF vs Gara Professional

I ordered the 2000 HF and my buddy ordered the professionals. After diving with both, I prefer the 2000 HF. They are much firmer which allows for quick acceleration. While you can still go fast with the Gara Professional (maybe not quite as fast), it takes longer to get to top speed as they do not accelerate as fast. The tradeoff, however, is that the Gara Professional, being softer, is not as demanding on the ankles. After diving to 40' for about an hour with the HF 2000, I feel it in my ankles a smidgen, but nothing major. One other major difference between these fins is that the professionals performed really bad when swimming around on the surface. They wanted to float up on top of the water. The 2000 HF performed much better on the surface. The 2000 HF are also easier to turn around or maneuver while under water as the stiffer blade is easier to control.

Fantastic fins!

Excellent free diving fins. Been using these fins for years. It’s nice to be able to get the exact same fins as they are manufactured just like they were 20 years ago!

Current Insurance

Comfortable, effective in strong currents, which is why I bought them. Be prepared to be teased about their 34 inch length. Length makes it a challenge to have a dive bag that will accommodate them, so beware. Foot size is true. Just used them my 4th year, returned from Raja Ampat happy I had them.

Excellent pair of fins

Great pair of fins, but be warned - they are long, as they should be, so a bit more uncomfortable above water than your regular fins. Mine do not fit booties, but are great with "socks". Once you get used to the trick taking them off (pinch the heel and slide), it's easy to take them off. They have negative buoyancy, so don't lose them!

I have 11.5 shoes and am wearing a 5mm fin sock with these and the 12-13 size works for me

Have not dived yet but....

I have not dived in these yet, but will comment about the sizing. I dive in cold norcal waters and wanted a 5mm sock. I normally wear a 11.5 shoe so ordered the 12-13 size fin and it fits perfect when wearing the 5mm sock.

Great for SCUBA

These are on the stiffer side for a long fin. Yes they are tiring to me for long surface swims but are great once you're under water getting down or returning to the surface freediving. The big news is how great these are for scuba. Comfortable and efficient for long dives. MOST MANEUVERABLE long fin I have ever used. I have never been able to back up with long fins but I can with these! Helicopter turns are easy. They frog kick well too. They kill in a current and save a lot of gas. They are good for travel because they are so light. Just pack them in a long duffel or fin bag if your gear bag's too short.

lost my gara 3000ld's

My cressi 3000ld were more forgiving but sadly they fell off my kayak never to be seen again so I bought these puppies. Diving off of Jersey has it's own unique demands. I freedive mostly off the beach. sometimes the surf gets rough, lot of sandy bottom, but spearfish around jetty rocks which we have alot of. Love these fins got a little cramped for a while but you can slow go it with these, or hop it up if you need to get off a rockpile in a strong wave.

Excellent for apnea and SCUBA

These are excellent fins for free-diving, but having gotten used to them I continued using them for SCUBA diving as well. They are extremely useful in strong currents, and I appreciate the extra power and speed when you really need it - be it current, handling divers on their first dive, or faster reaction time when you need to get to another diver in a hurry. It's true that they are not ideal when in caves and wrecks, but I've used them in both many times and with proper buoyancy skills and a little experience, the extra 10cm or so is really not such a big deal or problem when compared with most other fins. I never travel without them!

Good for scuba as well as freediving

Long fin. very powerful to scuba with. Perfect for boatdiving where boots are not needed. But must have good bouyancy to keep of bottom and coral. Easy to forget how long they are.

exelent fins great fit, responsive ,

this fins are to be used for what they are for, love the dual purpose for free dive and scuba, great for currents, light weight and responsive, some people think they are too long,of course when i go caving or wreck or cold dives i use my oms slipstream, just came back from Italy and Mexico, and they just worked great, if you want an all purpose fin, then this is not for you

These fins are awesome, great for the price better for the dive. These fins are the best that you can get if you are looking for a low price but a good performance. They work very well and get the job done when you need to swim fast and go back to surface ASAP!

Great Power!

Wonderful power! Not difficult to get used to using; but definitely one should practice with them before any long use to train your foot to take the extra power load. Great for Free-diving and spearfishing.

Good for spearin/free diving

These fins work really well for spearfishing and freedivng. They can hold their own when the water is rough but they also do a great job for drifting along in clam water. The only thing i did to alter them was that i camoed them.

Awesome Freediving Fin

This fin is slightly stiffer than the 3000 model, and in my oppinion is the absolute best value for a long blade fin out there. I wear a size 10 1/2 or 11 in most shoes and made the mistake of ordering that size of fin, as some reviewers claimed the fins ran big. However, I would recommend getting a size larger than what you wear in a shoe. This will allow you to wear a 3mm neoprene sock with the fin without it being too tight of a fit. Highly recommended.

Super Fins!!!

Great product [...] Well this item would be something similar to strapping two rockets to your legs. Gives you a lot of propulsion each kick. It is great for a free diver because it allows you to cover the most ground with the least effort.

Best technical fins for the money

I'm a serious spearfisherman - tank & free dive and these are great combo fins. I prefer the stiffer 2000H model over the 3000H as they are more responsive in heavy current when you're trying to track down a big fish. These are my third pair and for the money they just can't be beat.

GREAT fins!!!

I am a serious freediver and have always loved this fin - It holds up really well - I've never had one break down on me as opposed to the more expensive fins where the inserts come out. I wear it with a non soled bootie.

Excellent Fin

By Buddhist_Monk

This is an excellent fin for scuba or spearfishing. I had the expensive Apollo Bio Fins and they seem like jelly compared to these. This is a stiff efficient fin that will maximize your bottom time. It can be cumbersome at first but you will never get tired in a current. Foot pocket is soft and comfortable. Give them a shot.

Best Fins for strong currents

By Dave P.

These are GREAT fins for diving in strong currents. Too much fin for snorkeling on the surface, but awesome as soon as you get underwater. Highly recommended for strong, advanced divers.

GARA 2000

Cressi Gara 2000 HF

The first fin in the world made by combining three different materials, a process that Cressi perfected and patented with this fin, which guarantees unsurpassable performance. The blade is made from a special, incredibly reactive polypropylene, which is at the same time extremely light, and progressively charges up during the stride to take off like a spring at the exact moment the stride is inverted. A soft elastomer anatomically wraps around the foot, blocking it with a comfortable bite.

GARA 2000
GARA 2000

The Gara 2000 HF is the first fin in the world made by combining three different materials, a process that Cressi perfected and patented. This process guarantees unsurpassed performance. The blade is made from a special reactive polypropylene, which is extremely light, and has a blade snap that progressively charges during the fining upward stride to react like a spring at the exact moment the stride is inverted.

This development in fin construction gives the diver increased thrust required to keep up with their prey. A soft elastomer foot pocket anatomically wraps around the foot, surrounding it with a comfortable bite that guarantees perfect transmission of the leg-fin thrust. A solid copolymer hardens some critical zones of the foot pocket and extend along the sides of the foot pocket in two lateral stringers that go halfway down the blade, assisted by special raised bands on the bottom of the blade, these stringers function, is to regulate and harmonize the bending of the blade, at the same time protecting it from shocks and abrasions.

The fins are extremely lightweight compared to equivalent models of rubber full foot fins. This light- weightiness reduces the inertial masses to the minimum allowing less resistance to acceleration when needed. This gives the full advantage of the effort-efficiency ratio. This fin is designed for deep skin-diving, although Scuba professionals and instructors appreciate its efficiency also. Fins are available in multiple sizes.
