Chris H : What’s the best upgrades for better performance? Eh,bands,bungees,braid,mono!Mario C : Not sure if it could take thicker or shorter bands than stock. MFG does not specify on rigging, i like mono.. but it is quite personal.. i like mono as it easily shows if i rigged it wrong as it keep the mono bent where the turns should sit when rigged, if you twisted it anywhere the kinks would sit in a different place.. great question... but really hard to answer since spearfishing is still fishing and every fisherman, location has its best setup

Unsafe Safety

The main problem with this gun is that the safety locks up after cocking. It can be cocked with the safety off and the safety can then be engaged and disengaged when a shot presents itself. Cocking in the fire position is a bit dangerous.

Gun shoots great easy to handle in tight spots an has good knock down power on big fish also

This gun has never failed me. I since have upgraded the shooting line to double wrapped braided spectra and the shaft to a rob allen oil quenched spring steel 7mm which fit great on the 90cm gun. I added a band as well, but since took it off as the original single band has more than enough power. I have shot a 38" striper and was fine without a reel, just let go of the gun and grab your floatline. The Beuchat Arka Competition Spear Gun is a tough, lightweight band gun, ideal for reef or shallow water spearfishing. The gun has a 25mm (0.98") anodized aluminum barrel, pistol grip style handle with line release and a closed muzzle design. Gun comes equipped with a 6mm (0.24") diameter stainless steel shaft with a Tahitian style single flopper barbed tip. The gun is powered by a screw-fixed 16mm (0.63") power band with an articulated wishbone. The gun also includes a 2mm (0.8") braided polyamide line attached to the spear for easy retrieval once it leaves the gun barrel. The gun is available in multiple length from 50cm to 100cm (19.7" to 39.4").
