Shaun B : Hi, is it possible to insert a standard 1.5kg lead ingot? is there a picture of where the actual weights go. Thanks ShaunPAUL M : Hi, I am happy to give any info I can but I am afraid it may not be much. I purchased these as a gift, so I have not actually used them, and I am not familiar with the size and shape of the 1.5kg lead ingot you are talking about. What I can tell you is that the pouch is about 6 INCHES long (you say potato, I say vodka :-) [kg/lb, cm/in] ), and about 2 inches tall. That vertical dimension is with the product FLAT, so remember as you spread the opening it becomes SHORTER and turns into more of a circle with a considerably smaller circumference. The Velcro opening is at the end of the pouch where the female buckle is and seems quite sturdy. Hope this helps. PaulSTEFAN S : I never did understand how you were supposed to fill these. I wound up cutting open a two pound soft weight, dividing the lead shot as best I could into two plastic zip lock bags, and wiggling the weights into the ankle bags. I don't bother wearing ankle weights any more; I guess I just don't need them.ROBERT M : I don't know about a 1.5 kg ingot,it will fit a small bullet weight ,or slide on weight.There is a small Velcro tab at the end of the tube by the buckle.I put lead shot in my set,I wanted it to be more comfortable and bendable.JOSEPH B : If it's an ingot that fits on a weight belt. No. This item is basically a neoprene tube 1.25" in diameter (4cm); One end is secured shut with velcro so you can pour in your lead shot... sort of like filling up a sock.

I keep several zip lock plastic bags with different weights (from soft weight) ranging from .5-2lb in .5lb increments. Very easy to slip in and out and adjust as necessary

Good Product

This is a good product to have since McNett stopped making their 5lb ankle weights. I would have given 4 stars except that if you fill these to the full 5lbs, they have trouble staying closed. I've taken to sewing them shut after adding the shot. 5lb ankle weights are probably excessive for most applications, but they're quite handy when working in high currents.

In my opinion

Great if you want one pound weights but if using Sand they wouldn’t hold more then a pound. I only wanted one lbs for now. You would have to use lead of some sort to get to 5 lbs I would recommend if that would work for you I use for diving

Good value

These worked pretty good. I put about 3 lbs of lead shot in each one. I wish the closure system was a little more solid for the shot. I just took a simple needle and thread and sewed mine shut. The Velcro seemed to hold ok, but I just wanted to firm it up a little. Very simple way to add some weight without bulk. Worked pretty good on the dive. Will keep using this item.

too short for neoprene drysuit

great to customize trim, but the provided velcro traps were too short to put around my neoprene drysuit with attached boots. I had to buy webbing to extend them. the straps were also attached to the pouch oddly, (not sewn to the end of the pouch) which makes the pouch flop around and protrudes about 2 inches, which gets really annoying when you are suited up trying to haul all your gear into/out of the dive site. That being said, you do not notice them at all when you are actually diving.

Great flexibility

Purchased to help wife's (new diver) "floaty" feet. Sand wasn't enough weight. Couldn't find lead shot in Cozumel. Purchased 26, 1 oz. lead fishing weight "eggs". Very easy to fine tune.

Excellent Product

These ankle weight pouches have worked quite well for our Scuba Rescue team. They offer enough adjustability to fit all size ankles without a problem. We did find that one of our ham fisted divers somehow managed to open the velcro and spill the shot while removing the pouch from his ankle. We rectified this potential issue by placing the shot in a ziplock bag and then placing the bag in the pouch. Problem solved!

THESE WOULD BE GREATLY IMPROVED WITH THE ADDITION OF A ZIPPER OUTSIDE THE VELCRO CLOSURE. I ONLY USE #9 LEAD SHOT FOR WEIGHT, AND THE VELCRO WILL OPEN ON TRANSPORT IF CARE IS NOT TAKEN, CREATING QUITE A MESS.

Do your feet always seem to rise above you when diving? Some divers need to compensate the buoyancy of their legs with ankle weights. Diving with ankle weights, reduce leg and fin buoyancy, minimizes back stress for a safer, more comfortable dive. Ankle weights keep fins submerged at the surface and add stability during underwater projects such as photography or dive instruction.

Ankle weights are an important part of a diver's total weighting system. If your legs are too high, then there will be increased drag. When your legs are too high this will slow you down and cause fatigue. Correct your position with ankle weights. Many divers, especially women, have short waists. The weights in your BC or on your weight belt are closer to your head than they are on divers with longer waists. Therefore, the weight, push your upper body down and your legs up, causing unnecessary drag, Ankle weights will take some of this weight off the waist area and will move it down to the ankles, putting your body in a correct horizontal position.

Dry suit divers frequently require ankle weights because the legs of a dry suit are filled with air. The result is the legs want to float up.
