Questions & Answers

Shopper : what are the dimensions of the square part of the retractor body?CORINNA A : Approx 2"x2". Will handle new style smaller consoles but sags a little on older larger onesHelen W : Maybe 2" at most. I use it for my computer console and love it.PATRICK T : They are packed in boxes because I just moved but from memory, it is like 2 in by 1.5, not so big, just perfect size.
JAMES D : How does this retractor lock and unlock? Is it easy to accomplish while wearing gloves?ALEJANDRO A : Not sure if anyone has already answered this question, but it does not lock. Actually has enough tension to keep it in place during a dive. It holds my computer without an issue and allows it to easily pull away for viewing. CORINNA A : The retraction function itself doesn't lock. It only retracts in and out. The connection works by pressing the sides with your thumb and index finger as in a quick release. I generally wear 7mm gloves due to local water temps. They make it a little difficult to connect the keeper but it's doable. Disconnecting is easier. If you wear a thinner glove it would be even easier. I have my gauge console connected to this retractor and it works great. Would recommend the product.Helen W : I have the loop wrapped around through my computer console, and then the clip attaches to the main component in a M to F connection, which is relatively easy to take off even with gloves - think about BC clips, same sort of thing. I never take off tho unless I'm getting out of the water, as the extension part of the retractor is long enough for me to clearly see it. Tho I don't usually wear gloves, it shouldn't be an issue unless you normally have a dexterity problem. Love mine!HOWARD TERRY L : The model of retractor that I purchased does NOT lock. I'm sure there is another one that LeisurePro sells that does. However this model has been GREAT for me and keeps going strong for the past 3 years. I used it to keep my dive computer (ProPlus 2) close to me and easily extends when I need to check my readings. Just let go and it snaps right back and secured close to my body. The different connectors included adds great flexibility for what you need to attach (light, camera, slate, etc.).SHAWNNA P : The entire unit is attached to the BCD. Attached to your equipment (in our case it is a dive computer) is thelong rope with trident on the right. Just push and click into the gear keeper piece on the bottom. When you need piece of equipment, just pull it out, accomplish what you need to do, then let it retract back in. Easy enough when wearing gloves, even though we never take it apart until after day's diving is over.JAMES D : Danny. It says there is a locking mechanism. Will this lock up preventing this from dangling. For instance, my current retractor doesn't lock so it is free to retract and dangle. I want one that will stay until I pull it outDANNY T : Not too sure what you mean by 'lock & unlock'. But this thing clips to your bcd D ring using the clip (top part of the picture) and you connect your console to the 'seperate piece' and you clip that into the bottom of the main piece, thus keeping your console from dangling and close to your body. When you want to view your console, just pull the console away from your body (the retractor unspool) and when you release the console, it snap back. Exellent product. I have only used it on thin reef glove, but once it's setup properly, it should be easy to use even for cold water gloves. To unhook everything, it might be difficult for thick gloves though.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Troy W : They work pretty well.BILL B : To assist in keeping gear that may need used close, but useableTERESA M : I already own one and need another. Great device.STEVEN H : good deal with discountCORINNA A : Great accessory to hold flashlights, gauge console, etc.JOHN B : Very strong retractor for my dive computer.FRANK G : Flexible attachments, good size, ease of attaching and detatching my gauges or computer.

Solid retractor

Retracts well compared to another one I stopped using. Holds gauge in place near my chest. Have not done with it yet but it?s the same brand I used before.

Nice product too short of length

Bought this for keeping my integrated Oceanic Pro Plus from hanging and close to my body. Strong tension pulling it back but didn’t realize how short the length was. It could use another 5” or 6” on the length. That way you can fully extend when pulling it all the way out. Otherwise a great product.

Strong retractor clip

Great little retractor. Strong enough to hold my 2 gauge console tight to my BCD. Good price and exactly what I needed. You can't go wrong with this retractor clip.

does what it should

This works great so far holding my gauge set. Retract force seems great enough to hold much more. Retract speed is very fast, don't let go. Like the ability to have variable ways to attach.

Great Traction

This worked great for my large Oceanic Pro Plus 2.1. I would have liked the leash to be a tad longer, but even then, I don't really mind it too much.

Functions well even with heavy use

This is the second time I have purchased this item in the past few years due to heavy use training students. It fits well to the mounting bracket as a replacement for the original equipment used on the Suunto SK7 compass retractor mounting plate. Multiple dives in fresh and salt water.

Nice Product

Although i haven't used this product in the water yet, it appears to be well built. This will really help to keep things tucked up close to the body so they don't inhibit your diving experience.

Easy peasy,

The Gear Keeper Mini Combo Retractor Package gives ultimate mounting flexibility with thread pins and snap clip, ideal for securing in a pocket or to a webbing strap, designed to survive extended salt water and chlorine exposure, and unique design flushes sand and debris when it is operated in water, recommended for small flashlights & single computer/compass modules. The Mini Combo Retractor is not recommended for advanced navigation where gauges need to be fully extended from body. Please see Locking Console Retractor (SKU: AQURLCP).

The retractor extends up to 18" (45.7cm) and will automatically retract when released. This auto-recoil device allows for quick and easy access to small consoles secured to BCD or webbing belt. The Gear Keeper's line is nylon coated stainless-steel with a 60 lbs. (27.22 kg) breaking strength, has corrosion resistant stainless-steel spring and hardware and a 24 oz. (680 g) retractor force. Gear Keepers are proudly made in the USA.
