I am looking for something that that will pull out, but able to lock it so string is not always in tension.??JASON S : No, mine don't lock. I have a few of these, make sure you get the right length/size. Too Light for me

Retractor works well. Only thing I don't like about it is their is no locking mechanism. Flashlight is too heavy for this specific retractor which I don't like.

Good retractable, small flashlight keeper

Construction was solid and stood up to the first dive trip, 18 dives, well. Tension was about right for a small flashlight. Happy with my purchase.

Repurposed it to hold my underwater camera.

I'm always afraid of losing things, so when I purchased an underwater camera (point and shoot), I didn't want to accidentally drop it and lose it. I threaded the camera leash through this retractor and hooked it in my BCD. So off I went on a shore dive with crashing California waves. A wave came and I couldn't find my camera or the retractor. Thinking, "what a piece of garbage" we descended thinking it was gone. Turns out it was attached to me the entire time! This little contraption didn't let me down. While I held my camera, it was great having that extra piece of security of it retracting to your body. The string was long enough to comfortably hold the camera to take pictures. The line is surprisingly strong.

Solid retractor - Nice addition to kit

This retractor is small and lightweight with several attachment options. This is the second one that I own. Cleans up well and is always ready for use. Cord length has always been sufficient for my small light or other gear. My unit did not come with locking mechanism described in the product description. Other than that, this is a nice light-duty retractor.

Not what I exspected....

The item is of good quality however it is not strong enough to hold my console which is why I bought it. I guess it would be OK for something lighter. I'll leave it in my with the rest of my gear in case I find a use for it........
