Elastic would probably be better. Hard to keep these tensioned. Keep sliding down my leg. May be better for some other use.

I originally purchased these knife straps to hold my knife on my leg. I have since moved on to 3 small & blunt tip cutting devices located in different locations on my kit. EMT scissor, ezzy-cut and small blunt knife. But since then I have found numerous alternative uses for these and am very happy I have them.

Great idea, has many uses, keep several in your dive gear bag. Can be used to replace a broken fin strap or mask strap. Hold knife holster and many other uses.

I wrap this strap around the calf of my leg to secure a knife. It is an easy to use, simple design. But I have had a couple mendable problems with it. I assemble it on land, BUT as I descend and my 7mm wetsuit compresses, it loosens up and I find myself tightening it on the bottom. Solution: make it super tight at the surface and it should be fine down to 20-40feet. On scuba, this is less of an issue as you're on the bottom most of the time within a small range of pressure, and once you secure it at depth, it should be fine. When snorkeling, I get a little worried that I am going to lose my titanium knife since I am constantly going down to about 20-30 feet (wetsuit compresses = loosened strap) and back to the surface. I just bought a second one to provide more stability for the knife.

This knife strap is much better than the cheap "quick release" straps I had before. In fact, I lost my last knife because of the inefficiency of the quick release straps. Only down side to these velcro straps is the sizing is wrong. Site has them listed as 16 inch when in fact, due to the construction of the item, it will fit around a max circumference of 14 inches.
