Questions & Answers

Brandon A : I have a dive trip planned in two weeks and I ruptured my eardrum today will  these get me by for my dive trip will not be diving no deeper than 15 feet of water?SYDNEY Y : Here's what Emergency Medicine has to say: "If a ruptured eardrum is present or suspected, the diver should be evaluated in a hospital's Emergency Department. Transport by car is acceptable. No further dives should be undertaken until the diver is medically cleared." You and rupture your eardrum in as little as 4 feet of water, so diving not a great idea 2 weeks post-rupture.Mario C : Please consult with you doctor.SAM M : It keeps your ear canal dry and allows you to equalizeANN B : Talk to your ENT as medical information online is not appropriate and they can best guide you for your personal situation. You cannot dive safely with unvented plugs (must use vented). These are safe for diving but will allow water in and cause infection with a recently perforated eardrum. So the sad answer to your question is no, these will not allow you to safely dive to any depth with a perforated eardrum.MIKE V : This answer would be best suited for your ENT and I would assume they told you not to dive. If you go against their recommendation, I would use these but it's best not to dive.HARALD M : I understand that you don't want your injury to impact your plans; but vented ear plugs won't stop the pressure from building. I doubt ENT would clear you to dive so soon.Christopher H : No they will no stop water or pressure on the ear drum, but they are good for relieving pressure as you decend. You have to allow your ear drum to heal. Sorry I know that’s not the answer you were hoping for.AMY T : My husband says these are absolutely amazing as he has major sinus/equalizing issues and these have completed resolved it. They do not keep the water out of your ears completely. Hope this helps. I would assume you are on an antibiotic if your eardrum ruptured, I would just be concerned about infection🤷‍♀️
Shopper : Can these be used if you have tubes in your ears?FAREED H : No idea. I dont use them; bought them for a friend.Kevin K : I wouldn't know. My child used them and didn't have tubes at that time. Contacting DAN would be my first move.SYDNEY Y : That would be a question best answered by your ENT.ANDREW M : When fitted properly, and that is important, the model with the pin hole in them for SCUBA diving will keep water out up to roughly 30ft of water depth. Deeper than that, a small amount of water can pass through due to the increased pressure change. That said, you should consult with a physician before diving if you are thinking of using these to offset a medical condition. My understanding, and I think the manufacturer would agree, is that these are not meant to treat any medical condition. I have successfully used these to keep cold water out of my ears, and also dirty water out when diving in less than ideal locations. Hope this helps.
ELIZABETH B : I thought my order of Docs Pro Plugs would come with a leash to prevent from losing them. Do you carry the leash? Please respond..  Thank you.Mario C : family pack does not come with a leash. Unfortunately we do not sell such an item for those ear plugs.
Sheri E : Why are your Docs divers plugs red and all others are clear?KEITH S : I can not answer that question. I am a customer not the manufacture.FAREED H : Think it’s a manufacturing decision.
Shopper : what is in a combo pack?JOSH R : All the different sizes small-extra large CRAIG M : There are several different sizes from extra small to jumbo! SCOTT K : Each combo pack contains four (4) pairs of Proplugs (one for each size of the set). Hard to know which size will fit your ear and for me it was a tossup between the medium and the large with small and x-large being the extreme ends.YAN G : It includes 4 pairs of different sized plugs.

Didn't work for me.

Used these over the course of a 2 week liveaboard and couldn't find the right fit among the included sizes. They continually fell out. Really wish they had worked.

Awesome plugs!

Ive tried a couple of different dive plugs and these are by far the most comfortable. Provided you get the correct size, they sit in your ears comfortably and securely. I’ve had a marked reduction in ear problems with diving and and easier time in equalizing.

They're a godsend

I ruptured my eardrum a few months ago one dive short of my open water certification. I had issues equalizing and blew too hard. I had to wait a few months to get back in the water and naturally I was a bit nervous, however these earplugs made equalizing effortless and made my last checkout dive super enjoyable.

Good but not perfect

The product itself might be ok but it seems that my ears shape is not ideal and fall between plug sizes, so they aren't perfect for me and I still get water in my ears.

Works as expected.

Satisfied with the result. I would be good if Leisure Pro sold select sizes. The Medium size works best for me. Amazon sells select sizes.

Vented Plugs are Great for Diving

I use these for scuba, where I historically have issues equalizing/ clearing. Be sure to get vented for scuba. They will allow water in (and air out) after a certain depth. My last pair was 8 years old and still worked fine, but I felt that the manufacturer deserved another purchase. Old pair is clear. I am so glad my new set is red. They are easier to locate that way.

I would buy these earplugs again

These vented earplugs are great but you have to use a swim cap to keep the plugs in your ear.

They work, which is crazy to believe, but they do.

I purchased the Combo pack, as I wasn't sure what size I needed. Came out to being able to use the small and the medium, and can't decide which I like better yet. Went on a 3-tank dive with them, and was able to clear much easier then usual. Usually I have issues, that I can always overcome, these just made it easier.

Say goodbye to swimmers ear

My son has struggled with swimmers ear/ ear pain all summer. We thought it couldn't hurt to try these and we were so right! I wish we had purchased them years ago. He is now pain free and always in the pool. He swims all the time so these will help us for many years to come. He uses them now to snorkel and it is allowing him to do things more often and longer then he ever could before. It took a while to figure out how to make them work without leaking but the small adjustment time was well worth the effort.

Doc's Proplugs Vented Combo Pack by Aqua

This item does what it claims…it allows gentle equilibration as you ascend and descend, so the ear drum doesn't have to pop and stretch, causing pain. I've always had to limit my number of daily dives to two or max out at three on a few days, followed by pain and stoppage in my Eustacian tube to one ear and tympanic membrane pain. These essentially keep my ear pressure about ten feet or so behind my actual dive level, allowing a slow gentle pressure change. Now I can make three or more dives daily, and avoid any pain. I do like the ones with the fishing line that keeps them together, but otherwise, these are perfect, offering a large selection of size in one pack. I can buy these and fit both myself and my wife from one set, saving money.

Didn't include a tether

I have frequently used a similar product that I purchased from various dive shops, and I was very disappointed to find out that when I ordered these, there is no teather string to tie the plugs to the masks so in case they fall out, which they often do, you will not loose them. I fear in using non-teather plugs as I will likely loose them after the first dive! Make sure to buy tethered plugs, but otherwise a good product.

Solid performers

I have to give these top ratings even though I do have difficulty with them. Unfortunately for me its not thefault of the DPPs. The design itself hurts my left ear as my ear is very sensitive. This is the same ear that I always get infections in. I've tried the small, med, large and they all hurt keeping in mind that the medium is the perfect fit. In the right ear I don't even notice its there half the time. I wore these at work one day to try them out and they work as advertised. Communication with others was a non-issue. My reason for purchasing DPPs was to prevent debris from entering the ear canal. Not surprisingly my left ear canal as I have great difficulty getting anything out (draining). Ironically however in water I experience no pain whatsoever and I don't feel them when scuba/free diving. I will certianly use them for scuba diving along with the other brand I purchased. The DPPs are easier to maintain though and they work quite well.

Perfect Solution for Swimmer's Ear

Although I equalize fairly easily, my ears seemed to have water in them for days after a dive. With the ProPlugs, equalization occurs w/o having to pinch my nose. More importantly, there is no 'water-still-in-the-ear' sensation after the dive(s). These are remarkable and a small investment if you are experiencing the same symptoms.

Love them!

I used to get ear infections EVERY dive trip - I never get them anymore. The only ear infection I've had since I started using Doc's Proplugs was the one time I lost one. Now I always carry a spare set. They're that important. Anyone who has a problem with ear infections should use them.

Doc's Proplugs help some with equalizing

This probably will have a pair that will work for most adults. It did help some with my equalization difficulties, though I can't say it totally relieved them. I would buy them again, and I will continue to use them in the future. A drawback is that it will muffle your hearing a bit...underwater that may not be a huge issue unless you like to bang on tanks to communicate. They won't be a perfect custom fit, so you may tire of having them in if you making long shallow dives in sequence.

Dry Ears Are Happy Ears

I bought the vented plugs as a backup to my Pro Ear 2000 Mask after being diagnosed with a perforated ear drum prior to a trip to Turks & Caicos. I had used the mask in the past and knew it worked as long at my hair was very short and the mask ear cups were seated properly. I didn't want to take a chance though so I got the vented plugs as a precaution. Glad I did. The mask didn't leak through 8 dives but the plugs added confidence that if it did I was safe. My ears easily equalized on dives to 100 ft. I also used the plugs for swimming in the ocean with my family and the inner ear stayed dry the entire time. They fit snugly and can be worn with confidence. Make sure you fit them properly though and get then vented plugs, they are worth it! For divers or snorkelers with ear issues, get Doc's Vented Proplugs and the Pro Ear 2000 Mask. Well worth the price. Only downside, when worn for extended lengths of time my ears hurt slightly but felt fine after removing.

So far, so good.

Only used for one day of diving (2 dives) but so far I'm really happy with these. I often have trouble equalizing my right ear, but with these the equalization process seemed much more gradual and easy than usual for me. I'll definitely use them again. My only use so far was in cold water with a hood. They stayed in position just fine. I'm curious to see if they will stay put ok with out the hood, but I'm optimistic as they seem to have a pretty snug fit.

Perfect Solution for Swimmer's Ear

By BigSkyDiver

Although I equalize fairly easily, my ears seemed to have water in them for days after a dive. With the ProPlugs, equalization occurs w/o having to pinch my nose. More importantly, there is no 'water-still-in-the-ear' sensation after the dive(s). These are remarkable and a small investment if you are experiencing the same symptoms.

Doc's Proplugs Combo Packs are designed to fit a range of sizes. Each combo pack contains four (4) pairs of Proplugs (one for each size of the set):

Adult (18 years & up)
Includes one pair of each of the following sizes: small, medium, large, and extra-large.

Youth (6-17 years)
Includes one pair of each of the following sizes: medium small, small, medium, and large.

Doc's Proplugs
Can prevent swimmers ear, and ear pain by blocking water from entering the ears, keeping ears warm and preventing the flushing of water in and out of the ear. Ear pain and infection are caused by cold exposure and erosion of delicate skin and wax in the ear canal.

Upon descent, Proplugs prevent water from entering the ear down to 20' (6 meters) in depth. Once the diver enters greater depths, water will be allowed into the ear for equalization. Unlike other earplugs, Proplugs includes a Scott's valve which allows ears to equalize easily and let sound in. Proplugs have been used by hundreds of divers for over thirty years who testify that Proplugs are the earplugs for divers.

Equalization with Doc's Proplugs:
Doc's Proplugs have also been used by divers who have trouble equalizing. Unlike other earplugs which are solid and would not be recommended for diving, Proplugs are vented to allow equalization. While the small vent allows equalization to occur it does not allow debris to enter and it prevents earwax from washing out which exposes delicate ear tissue. The Proplugs keep ears warm by storing the head's conductive heat; the warmth provided by the plugs drastically reduces the risk of thermal shock. Due to surface tension the vented plug also reduces abrupt pressure changes from reaching the sensitive eardrum which contributes to easier equalization. Clear ears often to allow air to escape through the Proplugs vent and allow for better equalization. Proplugs wearers who have trouble clearing their ears should check to make sure a lump of ear wax is not blocking the canal or butting up against the vent. If the vent is fouled by debris while descending it is best to remove the Proplugs. If fouled while ascending, there is no problem because the air and water under pressure can escape around the Proplugs. Hundreds of divers have attested to the benefits of Proplugs for relieving pressure in their ear during descent. Proplugs can also be used around loud machinery and noises with their 20dB noise rating. Plugs come in a convenient plastic carry/storage case and are available in clear or red. Designed to protect the ear from cold water, impact, loud noise, and high frequency noise, while still allowing you to hear normal sounds.
