Amanda H : my daughter is blind we are searching for something that makes noise and is water proof for her to locate while submerged in order to pass a swim class. Do you think this might stay on the bottom of a pool and make an audible noise under water for her to find?ROMANO Z : It will only help if someone is actually shaking the device. The device does not make any sound if it is not being shaken. Hope this helps.DEBBIE R : No, I don't think that this would work. First off, it floats and will not stay at the bottom of a pool unless you anchor it with something. Second, someone would have to hold it and shake it for it to make noise. It's basically a waterproof rattle (i.e., someone will have to shake it to make any noise). Mine is positively buoyant, which means that it will float to the surface if not attached to something. Try a small weight. Enjoy!ROSS M : Amanda, I don't think this will work for your daughter as it is buoyant and will not stay on the bottom of the pool without weighting it down. Second, it has ball bearings inside and has to be shaken for it to make an audible noise. You probably would want something battery powered and water proof that would emit some kind of audible signal. I am not familiar with such a device so can't be much help with that. Even then it might be difficult for her to locate a signal device as noises underwater tend to "move around" making it difficult for even a sighted person to locate where a noise is coming from.DAVID C : No. It is a rattle. Very inadequate

I find it very difficult to use. It floats up out of reach, the sound is very weak. A disappointment overall. I will get one made of metal next time.

if it were free I'd give it back

I bought mine on sale 2yrs ago and NOBODY has ever been able to hear it.

Not very effective

I am a working Divemaster and use the Aqua maraca when leading underwater tours to get the attention of other divers in groups of 5 - 8. This signaling device is not very effective because the shaker is plastic and it cannot be heard for more than about 6 ft underwater. I will be replacing mine with one made of aluminum or steel.

Aqua Maraca was a flop

Would not recommend, we bought 2 and returned both. Too noisy both above and below water - rattled whenever we moved. Also, they are positively bouyant so if you clip them on your BC they float up and get in the way.
