After trying many different brands and models after many years as an instructor and commercial diver the mares avanti quattro (full foot) used to be my number one fin, but not anymore! I’m a very very minimalist diver and working 100% of the time in tropical water i don’t need much diving equipment with me at all. For work i only use mask, single regulator (or hookah hose) fins and weight belt. Only when i teach is when i use octopus, spg, bcd and diving computer. I teach scuba but also i do lots of commercial work doing yacht hull cleaning (hookah) and inspections on big sailboats and i was told by some other military diving friends that i should try this apollo bio fins no matter what, so i did and i’m very impressed! Oh-my-god!!! I thought they were gonna be just like the rest of the other scubapros, mares or atomic split fins since i tried all of them before, but all these models were not even close! The apollo bio fins are by far the best diving fins i have ever used! Im 40 and when i was younger i used the “turtle / tech” fins kind back when i was guiding cenotes in the Caribbean but they’re hard on the knees and very heavy to travel with and to be honest with the years you need something more comfortable, easy on your joints and yet powerful; this is when i switched to the avantis quattro buy they were still on the longer side and sometimes funny to maneuver with. I used the apollos in current (medium to strong), for normal surface swimming, light spearfishing, scuba diving, cleaning hulls and even bodysurfing and i absolutely recommend these beauties, if you’re looking for some comfy and powerful fins for pretty much all kind of diving environments (obviously not for cave diving since split fins are NOT recommended) these are the fins you’re looking for! Oh and whoever said you can’t do frog kicking or diving backwards with these kind of fins thats NOT true!!! I can totally do it with my apollos as well! I went for them and never looked back, oh and i already sold my mares quattro by the way! I’m size 10us and i use the SMALL size for barefeet (believe me even barefoot they’re comfortable!) or sometimes i use a 3mm (no thicker it will be tight!) low boot if i’m spending hours underwater. Small size is perfect for a size 10us either for traveling or using them in tropical waters! Hope that helps and enjoy your biofins :)

Did about 25 dives with these fins. First split fins I've owned. Wow! I definitely have more power. You can really feel it. I didn't find any increased maneuvering ability however. But when current hit - I was the only one who could get through it (and I'm not normally a strong swimmer). I can't compare to other split fins - but if you're like me and are upgrading from rentals, you will be impressed, albeit a little lighter in the wallet. I got the version with the pull on stainless steel straps. Amazingly easy to pull on/off. Love that! But the rubber surrounding the straps is starting to tear in spots after only a few dozen dives. But it doesn't appear it will tear all the way through. Still a little disconcerting. Biggest issue I have with these fins is weight. These guys are heavy! Still, if you want the power... guess you have to put up with it. btw, the fins are 22" long. Just too long to fit in a carry-on bag. So you have to carry them in a larger bag - or in a backpack like I did.

These are the best, most efficient, most comfortable, fastest, and easiest to don fins I've owned and used for recreational and scientific diving/snorkeling. Just be sure and check the rubber before your 1-year warranty expires! Right at two years, while showing them to another diver, I noticed significant deterioration (picture attached). I took great care of them and stored them inside my home. Apollo was very helpful and offered me a new pair at half the MSRP (no shipping), which they would send out upon receipt of my defective fins (shipping at my cost, and they would then return the spring fittings). I didn't want to do without them, and for just a few dollars more was able to get another new pair from Leisure Pro, leaving me the deteriorating pair as spares for snorkeling. Hurts to buy another pair so soon, but my buddies and I love them!

i have used these fins for more than 70 dives. they are little overated in terms of efficiency and air consumption improvement since these quality only improves with diving experience. its super easy to put on but it can be a little tricky to remove since a suction inside the foot pocket can develop and i need to wriggle my foot to facilitate the removal.i'd recommend these fins if money is not a consideration

may sound gruesome to you hippie folk, but imagine having seal flippers on your feet. The comfort and little effort make them a huge advantage to any skill level diver.

Compared this with Scubapro Seawing Nova's and even though I am a rank beginner, but that should not keep me from putting in my 2 cents. I tried both apollo and the scubapro's in the pool over multiple days side by side as I was interested in the best. The scubapro Seawing's are lighter (good for taking on trip) and yes they are fast too, the problem is that they have not resolved the complaints about some of the fins breaking at the articulating joint and that during the kick though they do reduce movement at the ankle joint, they are harder to get started. The apollo`s are real easy on the legs. Reallllly easy. During the descent, startups and speed, they really do excel and I repeat really reduce the stress on the legs. I have read some comments about them being mushy and not able to do well in small spaces, would not know anything about that. I wear a size 10 1/2 sneaker and I am wearing a Medium in the apollo`s and required a medium in the scubapro seawings.

I read many reviews prior to purchase about how the Apollo fins are faster through the surf and reduces air consumption under water. I was amazed that it's true! I recommend these fins to anyone who will listen. They are worth the money and have a customer for life. PS: If they're good enough for the Navy seals, they're good enough for me.

I purchased these fins about a week ago only to be disappointed when they arrived. I wear a size 12 boot and the XL would barely fit over my Sea Soft Stealth boots. The foot pocket seems quite narrow which was uncomfortable and made on and off a pain so I have to return them. The quality of these fins is still great and the straps are awesome just beware if u have big feet and order a size larger than normal if u have thick soled dive boots!

These are the perfect fins. As a kid I loved the cheap rubber flippers one could get anywhere. The propulsion they gave was great. When I started diving I hated the stiff paddle fins that were forced on me. Thanks to these I will never have to use those pontoons again. I took these to the Bahamas two weeks ago. They performed perfectly. The Stainless steel fin straps are well worth the extra cost. It was like being a kid again lol. Will never buy anything else at this point!

I have used these fins for years, only to lose one off the side of the dive boat. As soon as I got home, I ordered a new pair. Now I have three. The strap won't break, so now if I lose another... I'm covered. These are great fins & I've used many.

I have over 100 dive with these fins and would not use any other fins. Easy on and easy off. Great speed and very little effort. I have a bare for my DUI dry suit and I have a pair for warm water diving.

Simply brilliant fins. Very easy to use, and do all that Apollo claim. Stainless strap is simply brilliant. If and when mine ever need replacing (a buddy has done a few thousand dives with his) I'll be back for more.

I could not tell much of a difference. My dive partner has notice that I have changed my style of kicking and he has told me to slow down on several dives. Easy to slip on and off with the springs. Will update at end of summer of 09.

These fins are very comfortable. Although they are a little heavy above the surface, once you get underwater, it feels as though you have nothing on. The spring straps make it very easy to quickly put on and take off these fins. Once you get the kick down, you will find yourself having to slow down for fellow divers in your group. I have 7 mm thick soled boots and these accommodate them very well without the squeeze commonly associated with other fins. I would definitely buy these again and I highly recommend these to other divers out there!!!

This is a very comfortable fin. The top of the foot pocket doesn't dig in to my foot like Scubapro's twin jets did. Call me crazy, but I liked the standard straps better than the spring straps which were too tight and couldn't be adjusted. Heavy buggers though. Not sure how happy I'll be lugging them in a backpack for snorkling. Should be awesome for diving though.

Try out fins before you buy them. It doesn't matter how much you spend on fins, if they don't fit, they won't work. If these fit, then buy them and make sure to get metal spring straps no matter what fin you end up with. I'll never dive again without spring straps.

BOUGHT THESE FINS FOR MY DAUGHTER. THEY HAVE DECREASED HER AIR CONSUMPTION AND INCREASED HER BOTTOM TIME BY 10%. SHE SAYS THEY FEEL GREAT! NO RUBBING OR CHAFING. REALLY LIKES THE EASY ON/OFF FEATURES OF THE STAINLESS STRAP.

I was skeptical about using split fins at first, but decided to give these a try. Sure am glad I did! It takes less effort to swim and the spring straps are great. All of my friends who have tried them complain when they have to go back to their own fins! I also get lots of compliments on the white color.

Best fin I've ever used (update)
By SCOTT M.
(This review is an update of an earlier one. Sorry to be so long winded but I have been able to try some other brands of "Natures Wing" split fins in the interim. I'm still 100% sold on my Apollos but others might find a different brand more to their liking.)I'll preface this by saying that the split fin technology used in these fins is licensed by Nature's Wing to Apollo, ScubaPro, Atomic, TUSA, Oceanic, Dacor, Sherwood, Beuchat and Genesis. Any of these manufacturers that claims to have a...

Apollo was the first manufacturer to recognize the potential of split-fin technology. Every major dive company now offers some form of split-fin. In a sea of imitators Apollo's Bio-Fin Series has continually taken top honors. Every model Bio-Fin submitted to Scuba Diving Magazine (SDM) for annual review has rated "Testers' Choice". With eight consecutive wins, Apollo's Bio-Fin Series is clearly the fin to beat.
The Apollo Bio-Fin standards of 100% rubber and 20° angle help this fin provide excellent performance, low strain, and reduced air consumption. Some people feel that the more rigid blade makes it respond slightly quicker to direction changes and alternate kicking styles. It is an excellent choice for very strong kickers as the more rigid blade provides a stronger resistance and more traditional paddle fin feel. Apollo's Split Fin design is consistently rated as the fasted fin in the water providing excellent maneuverability and position control.
The Bio Fin increases bottom time, improves ability to swim against strong currents, increased comfort and enjoyment, improves performance and comfort on the surface, increases maximum speed, improves cruise speed, improves safety, improves efficiency for free divers, improves performance for underwater photographers, improves efficiency for cave and wreck divers, improves accessibility and efficiency for student divers, and improved accessibility to injured and disabled divers.
The Apollo Open Heel Bio Fin comes with a set of stainless-steel fin straps. These durable, coiled spring straps are extremely rust and breakage resistant. The spring strap automatically adjusts to changing conditions; no stopping to tighten down a loose strap! The straps have a rugged rubber grip with finger loop that is easy to access, even with thick gloves. The Pro C-Series is available in multiple sizes.
