does what its told

Attached it to my astral green jacket, I ordered the longer tether and was able to stuff it into the pfd side stash pocket, a bit tight but no problem, the velcro tabs are for a different pfd so they don't help keep tether coiled. Just stuff into side pocket. Looks bomber, well made.

Great equipment for rescuing kayaks.

Use it to rescue kayaks and get them back to boaters.

Usefull

Intended to tow a kayak, via a rescue PFD. The longer length is the better choice for river running as many boats will be longer than play boats. If only in a park and play situations with mostly short play boats, use the shorter version. The Velcro tab attached close to the ring is the loop material. However, a hook portion was not included (only a separate useless length of loop material), therefor the loop material cannot be covered and just gets stuck to other material. As I use a rescue PDF with a quick release belt and ring, I cut the loop tape off.

Works well

Works well for rescues, luckily I went with the longer leash so that I had extra length to fold it up up and wedge it between me and my Astral green jacket. How ever next time I would go with a standered tow line so that is small enought to store in my side zipper pocket.

Stiff

Strong and sturdy BUT a bit stiff and tough to tuck away. (my old one was a bit more flexible and came with a Velcro loop so you could fold it up and tuck it out of harms way. AKA high n tight so it didn't snag on things unexpectedly)

Needs a bigger biner

The tether is solidly built, as one would expect from NRS. Clean, shrink wrap around the both ends covering the stitching. It will work well as a tow tether, but that's all. One of the best uses of a pigtail like this is to clip your paddle dot keep from losing it, but NRS didn't include a big enough carabiner. Other brands have biners sized to clip easily around a paddle shaft. NRS should update the hardware. It would be worth the extra cost, and would make it easy to keep track of your paddle during a rescue or to clip a friend's paddle while you help them out. I'm returning it to get one that performs this function. However, if you are just looking for a pigtail for towing, this will suit just fine.

There when you need it

If the caribeaner was a little bigger you could use it to save a buddies lost paddle As my friend often does for me It's a cheap up grade but it would be nice if it was included

Perfect for a play boat.

I had the occasion to use this in a real "emergency" situation for try first time a couple of days ago and the girl who's boat I rescued was so grateful. I actually saved her boat twice before she ended up walking out with a broken paddle. The length is great. Maybe with a longer boat like a big creeker or sea kayak it would be a bit short but I love it behind my play boat. If you empty the boat of the water you won't feel like you're pulling anything

Serious and Fun Safety Tool

I have used this tether in multiple situations (Rescue, Utility, and tethering kids to me while playing in the river). This tether has come in handy, with my rescue jacket, in a variety of non-rescue situations such that almost anyone could find it useful. The only thing that I would change is the fact that it could use a caribeaner at both ends for regular quick attachment.

Good basic product

good product, length is good, will replace caribiner with larger one to accomodate clipping in paddles

33" Best with a playboat

The smaller tether works fine with a playboat but is too short for a larger volume boat you may want to use for rescue. You'll have the tethered boat at your side and not behind you, it's difficult to paddle that way and less safe.

Long is too long

I use this tow tether for white water rescues and retrievals. I got the longer version thinking it would be useful when in longer boats and when flipping rafts. Turns out the longer length is just too much. If you carry it outside of a pocket, but clipped to a shoulder strap or break-away d-ring, expect it to drag in the water next to you. The length is cumbersome and unwieldy. Bottom line, it is too long and poses a risk of snagging. Otherwise, its just a basic piece of webbing with a shock cord down its length. A locking biner and a smaller diameter steel ring would be nice.

Need a Tow?

I use this tether when needing to perform rescue tows in Class II & III whitewater. This is a durable tether, and it is essential that the tether can be integrated into the Type V PFD rescue belt system.

"Built Tough"

Thankfully I haven't had to use this yet, but it's probably the last tow tether you would have to buy.

Good.

The only pig tail I could find that is long enough to clear the stern of my spanish fly. Would work well for other shorter OC1s and creek boats. Make sure the biner isn't anywhere it can get caught. The length makes storage a little more challenging.

Perfect Addition

I use this with my NRS Pro Guardian Waist Throw Bag. The 33" is the perfect length to attach to the back of my vest and clip up front for easy access.

Very Nice Tether

I tied this to the end of the NRS Bowline and used it to drag my kayak through shallow water on a week long trip down the Pecos River. Heavy shock cord did not stretch out but gave just enough to ease towing a loaded down boat over gravel and rocks.

Good tow... get the right length

Certainly a good tow tether. Make sure that you get the right length. I have a short tether that is too short for my boat. Any tow configuration will pull to the side of the stern. Wish I would have got the longer version.

NRS Tow Tether

The tether has held up well for the 40+ days so far. I have gotten the chance to use it frequently towing boats from first timer runs with our local club.

Great for teaching people how to roll

great product. A bit bulky to fit in a life jacket, but good to have when taking novices out on the river.

Serious and Fun Safety Tool

By River W.

This strong tether with a built-in bungee is used with the quick-release harnesses on rescue Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs). The NRS Tether enhances towing performance in rescue situations. The stainless O-ring includes a hook-patch of "hook and loop" fastener material that facilitates centering of the O-ring on vests that have the loop fastener material sewn on in the back. It also has a hook fastener patch on the Carabiner end. This mates with a loop fastener piece available on some rescue PFDs, forming a quick-release holder for the Carabiner. There are 2-sizes of tethers a short measuring 19" (48.26cm) relaxed and Stretches to 33" (83.8cm) and a long tether measuring 33" (83.8cm) relaxed and stretches to 53" (134.6cm). Both the short and long tether are 6" (15.24cm) longer in length with the Carabiner and O-ring. The tethers weigh 10 oz. (283.5 g).
