Questions & Answers

PATRICK K : I am looking for a size recommendation on the Scubapro Glide X BCD. I am male 6 ft, 210 lbs, waist 34, chest 44. I dive in 3/2 and 7mm wet suites mostly. When I rent a BCD I am usually fitted with a Large or XL. I have never used a Scubapro BCD before only Oceanic and TUSA. As I am looking at purchasing this one I would like to have the proper fit. What size Scuba Pro BCD do you recommend?RON H : You and I are very close to the same size. I use a size large Glide X, and it fits very well.rodney c : I'm 6 ft. 2 in., 215#, the large fits me nice though I seldom use a wetsuit and if I do it's a 1mm. Hope this helps.Charles D : I am 6’3”, 225 lbs, and 38” waist and need the XL. I previously used a Knighthawk in XL. I love the Glide X.
Shopper : just starting out i used my scubapro glide X for the first time and had buoyancy control problems .I have 10,s on the sides and 4,s for trim by tank also ankle weights to control my fin floatation at 2 lbs.would you say I need a Weight Belt?MICHAEL P : You don't state what the buoyancy control problems were, but at first glance I would say you're overweighted.(30 lbs plus tank) Im 6' 210lb. With 7mm wetsuit hood and boots I use 10 lbs each pocket with steel 100 tank. When I dive drysuit and need more weight, I split weight between BC and a shoulder harness instead of belt. the harness allows me to move weight around for better trim and comfort. I am a big fan of Scubapro's Glide BCs. Had the glide plus for years then replaced with the Glide X. Hope this helps.FELIPE M : Have you taken a buoyancy class or worked with an instructor? You didn't provide many details (what kind of control problems, freshwater or saltwater, how buoyant you are, etc) but I'm going to make a guess and say your overweighted to start. My 10 year old daughter, wife and I use this BC and love it as recreational divers.THOMAS R : What type suit are diving? Maybe to much air in your BC to start out with. Do a zero air in BC and check your weight needs.Daniel F : If you are able to submerge at the beginning of your dive, you do not need additional weight unless your buoyancy control issues are only during your safety stop. I currently carry 10kg (2 in trim pockets and 8 in front pockets). In my XXL size BCD there is room for more weights if required. If your buoyancy control issues are during the dive, I suggest more practice/instruction.BRIAN C : Sounds like you may be too light. First try adding more weight to the pouches in front, that fixed it for me. It does take a few dives to find the right combination and balance, but now that I have the correct distribution my Glide X rocks. Now my buoyancy is even. I have never tried ankle weights. Good luck!Sean D : Completely depends on you, your gear and the environment. The BC itself isn’t a big factor in the weight needed. Getting used to dumping all the air it will hold might be a factor. I use the hip dump valve a lot if I am a bit head down or horizontal.
Shopper : Thanks guys for your input on sizing much appreciated as mentioned I think I'm between the med/large (pity they dont do a ML size.. - I'm diving at the weekend and will use a Scubapro Pilot Medium (rental) - I used large in the Pilot last week with a 2.5mm and had every strap maxed out and it was still a tad large - I think the Glide is about the same sizing as the Pilot so hopefully the weekend will tell me whether to go for the Glide in med or Large. Quick question on the cumberbund - Scubapro says the Glide is 38inch and up - can it be adjusted to smaller than that - again I think my size there is around 36 inch. thanks?JUNE H : The cummerbund features fully adjustable straps that allow perfect custom fit. You will be able to adjust it to 36".
Shopper : Hi there, need some advice on size for the Scubapro Glide - I'm 5ft 11.5 inch tall, weight 178-180lbs, waist 35 inch, chest 40-41inch. Diving in 3mm summer and 5mm wetsuit in colder water - I think I'm between Med and large - any help would be appreciated?GEORGE R : I bought this bc for my son and it sounds like you are the same size as him. I bought a large and it fits fine.FELIPE M : Hi, my wife and I purchased a small for her and a large for myself in April and have over 50 dives on them and have zero complaints. I am 6'1", 205lbs, 32 inch waist, 46 inch chest and the large fits me like a glove. All straps are in the middle of adjustment and this is my favorite BC out of the four we use for recreational diving. I THINK you'll be happier in a medium. I tried a medium on in store and vaguely remember thinkin it was too tight around my chest and would fit if I was 20lbs lighter. Hope this helps and it fits correctly! Any other questions, ask!STEVEN I : I am about that size-- 5'10" 195lbs 34" waist and 42 chest. I used this BC in both med and lrg. The medium was too tight, but the large works fine.
