Dive hoods are detachable head coverings that provide underwater thermal insulation. They are typically made of neoprene—the same material as your wetsuit—which help keep you warm in cooler water conditions. Diving hoods are also available in lycra and fleece—materials which provide greater warmth and a tighter fit.

Your body loses a significant amount of heat from your head. By wearing a scuba hoodie, you can keep your head properly insulated and protected against any shocks you may experience from the cold. These wetsuit hoods are designed to cover your head and neck while leaving your face exposed so you can wear your dive mask and put your snorkel on easily. You can also wear gloves and boots to increase the thermal effectiveness of your wetsuit even further.

If you have long hair, wearing a scuba head cover can keep your hair contained and out of your face. Neoprene can pull against hair, however, so tie your hair back into a ponytail before putting on your diving hood.
