Great suit!

By Erin C.

This is a great wetsuit. I live in New England so I dive in 50-60 degree water. This suit keeps me warm and toasty! It's well-made and very user friendly (i.e. it's easy to get into and out of). I see myself using this suit for years to come!

The SolAfx is Aqua Lung's most advanced wetsuit, with unique features like an integrated hood and internal arm and leg cuffs. The redesigned SolAfx suit now includes Aqua Lung's X-Tend cuffs, providing a finished look with maximum stretch. It has new environmentally-friendly features, such as the non-P.A.H. (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) neoprene. Unique designs are specially tailored for men and women. The suit provides maximum warmth, thanks to its 8mm torso and 7mm arms and legs. X-tend cuff technology provides a finished look without sacrificing stretch by removing restrictive edge tape. Environmental friendly features: neoprene free of P.A.H. (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons), made from a non-petroleum based material, and has REACH (European Union standards) approved thread.

8mm AquaFlex neoprene used in the torso with 7mm AquaFlex neoprene on the legs and arms for added flexibility. Liquid Fusion Seam Technology with reinforcing patches on the inside at seam junctions enhances the durability and integrity of the seams. The suit has an across-the-chest Plasmaloc" zipper with tighter tolerances and a unique integrated tooth design that makes the zipper more water resistant than most other brands. This minimizes water exchange and allows you to remain warm throughout your dive. Silicone no slip shoulder feature provides added protection and helps to keep the BC shoulder straps in place.

A water dam covers the neck and shoulders, providing an additional layer of thermal protection against any water entering through the zipper. Skin-in" gasket seals in the forearms and calves minimize water entry through the sleeves and legs. Lower back pad helps keep water out. The outer nylon material is resistant to abrasions and "hook-and-loop" snags due to the tighter weave to keep your suit looking good! The inner material is ultra-soft making these suits easy to don and doff. An improved Powertex kneepad offers increased flexibility while offering excellent abrasion resistance. Pre-bent anatomic legs and arms provide a more comfortable fit and reduce bunching of material at the joints. The attached hood offers G2 Vent Technology that allows trapped regulators exhaust bubbles to exit while keeping cold water out.

Questions about this item:

Brittney H  Hi everyone. I've made a recent move to Maine and need a warmer wetsuit. I hanve a sizing question. I'm short - 5'2. I'm 140lb and measurements over clothes were hips 39, waist 35, bust 39. Based on the chart I should be a size 12 but I worry about the legs being way too long for me. Any recommendations?
WILLIAM F  My wife is 5'3" 130 and wears the 10. The 10 says 5'6"-5'9" and she is fine with it, they are not even noticeably long and it is very snug everywhere else. If you did the 12 short which is what a friend wears, you will be great. These run a bit on the small side. My wife had an 8 and after a few dives we had to buy her the 10 and I bought a men's m/l and ended up buying an xl after a few dives. You won't be sorry with the 12S
Chelsea T  Are the knees reinforced?
DEBORAH K  I have two older versions, and the knees are reinforced with what looks like some sort of textured neoprene kneepad. From the manufacturer's website: "An improved Supratex kneepad offers increased flexibility while offering excellent abrasion resistance"
DALE D  The front of knees there is a extra layer of covering. If there's was extra padding it would be tough to bend your knees. The covering works well. When I take pictures I'm on my knees alot. No wear. After 2years.
NISHANTH S  Yes, they are!
FRANK S  It has a stretchy material over the knees, which allows full flexibilty. I have been diving my suit extensively on a daily basis and the knee area never showed any wear. I also do promote diving while not kneeing.
Jennifer F  The knees have a rough texture over them that isn't neoprene, you can see the difference if you zoom in on the picture.
MELINDA F  I have a sizing question? 've tried on Aqualung in the store- not the SolAfx and it seemed to big in the top. I'm 5'6" weight 158 lbs, buist 35". waist 33". I have larger thighs & arms. Not sure what size I would order or would a mens fit better. I've tried on other suits & they also seem to have more room in the buist area. Any ideas. Hate to order 3-4 different suits & have to return them. Our local shop is limited. Thanks
DALE D  Im 5 six and 130lbs. I ordered size 8 fits great through legs and hips but the top was a little to big I have a 34 inch bust. I put some pads in bathing suit top to fill it in little that worked great for me. My husband and I both have these suits and we love them.
NANCY I  I am about your same size and have a women's large, and it fits great! Love it!!
MELINDA F  Thansk Nancy, Some others have posted that they are about my size & one ordered 8L & the other a 10. My old 2 piece john is a11-12. The other women are the same wieght but 2" taller. I have larger thighs 25" , arms 13" & hips 40". Those are the spots I have trouble with if I go smaller, (unless it is really stretchy) but then it really loose in the chest. Thanks for your input.
MERISSA S  I purchased the Aqualung SolAFX in an 8L (long). I am 5'7, 150lbs, my bust is 36" and my waist is a 28". I have really muscular legs, so the long size works better for bigger legs and arms because it allows for more movement. I tried the regular 8, and it was too tight. I also swim a mile every day and surf, so I have broad shoulders. Again, the long size allowed more room for someone with bigger arms and legs. The suit is great. It keeps me warm diving in Monterey Bay all winter long, and I love the integrated hood and the fact that cold water isn't rushing down the back of my neck. Hope this helps and happy diving!
AIMEE S  Hi Melinda I have very similar measurements as you (5'8, 160 lbs, 36 bust, 32 waist) and had ordered a size 10 which fit perfectly. Not sure if it's of interest but I have only worn mine 3 times (in fresh water) as part of a training exercise. Would you be interested in trying my suit? Regards, Aimee
MELINDA F  That would be awesome. But not sure were you live. Would have to ship it to me. I live in Suttons Bay, MI. Summer I dive Lake Michigan & the inland lakes. Thanks Melinda Flees
AIMEE S  I live in NJ. Let me know if you want to talk offline. als1123 on gmail.
Shopper  I want to buy a new semi dry wetsuit. Problem is that I'm very tall 5'11.5" and quite slim. My upper legs are quite muscular and I have long legs. Question, is there someone else that is tall or taller than the size chart says for their size? Also my measurements are 145 lbs, bust 33, waist 29, hips, 37. I was thinking of buying the 10long one. my weight is a bit more though, but my sizes are smaller. Do the chest, waist and hips run true to size, a bit small, or a bit big? And is the length true to size? Would help me A LOT! Thank you :)
AMANDA R  I am 5'8", 130 pounds, and I have a 34 inch inseam. I have the SolAfx in 8 long. I love the suit (it is wonderfully warm and much more user friendly than the traditional farmer jane and vest), but it is just barely long enough in the legs and arms. I could definitely use an additional inch or even two.
STEVE E  Sorry, my build is very different than yours. However, you will love this suit.
LINDA G  Don't know how much this response will help, but here goes. I bought -- and returned -- this suit last December. I'm 5'6" and slim, though not as slim as you, and ordered a size 8. The bottom half of the suit fit okay, but it was way too roomy under my armpits, a problem I've run into with other suits. The worst part of the suit, though, was getting the hood on and off. Perhaps you're used to this style, but I've never had an integrated hood before. The hood was so snug that pulling it back over my head to get it off really hurt my neck. I guess it gets easier with practice, but between that and the baggy arms, returning it was an easy decision. That said, I know another female diver who has this suit and loves it. So it's a very individual thing. If you can get free return shipping, give it a try. If not, go on a scuba board and try to get some info from divers who use the suit. Good luck!
NANCY I  Hello, this wet suit is GREAT! I,ve been diving in it for a year and is is nice and warm. It is very flexible and can accommodate the body type you describe. My dive buddy is a woman who is 5"10, 160lbs, with very muscular legs as well. We tried these suits on at a local dive shop just for sizing purposes and then bought through LeisurePro for the great price. She ended up buying a men's instead of a women's.....to accommodate her long legs and longer arms. But the women's long would have worked. I wear the women's....and am not so tall, but they are really the same in comparison. If you are able to go try on in a local shop for sizing it would be helpful. But I can assure you they run very true to size and have a lot of give to accommodate body type. Definitely go with the long!
HEIDI B  Hi, I might be able to help with part of your question. I did NOT find that the wetsuit sizes listed were a great approximation for fit. I am not particularly tall 5'7", I weigh 142. I wear a size 6 in this wetsuit and it fits me perfectly, according to the size chart they would have me in a 10 at least. I believe I might have a slightly older version of this wetsuit, i purchased it a few years ago, but the size charts are the same. I had tried on aqualung wetsuits before though and had an idea of my size. I would recommend going smaller than a 10, besides your height, your measurements are very similar to mine. I can't help much with the length though, good luck! I do love this wetsuit, I have done over 100 dives in this suit in water as cold as 49 degrees and stayed warm.
JERRY R  Sorry I can not help you with your question but I can give you some advice... Leisure Pro is no an authorized dealer of Aqua Lung. I bought the men's solafx (which I love) from here and it had a rip in it and Aqua l
ROBERT M  I would not worry. If it doesn't fit leisure pro will except it back and issue a different size. Do not get the suit wet. I would go tall. These suits stretch and in my opinion are the best for Cold water diving. I dive California and I can do multiple dives a day with this suit.
