Scuba Gear Customer Review: Oceanic 6.5mm Neo Classic Heavy Duty Zipper Boots - $59.95

Posted 11/13/2009 9:31:05 AM in Scuba Gear Reviews

Rating:Oceanic 6.5mm Neo Classic Heavy Duty Zipper Boots nice boot - just not for wide feet.

The boot seems to be high quality, however, when I waited for it to adjust around my EE width foot, the pressure on the edges of the ball of my foot didnt let up. Scuba.com was great about taking them back. I bought the Henderson H2 Titanium, and they fit fine (still snug on the edges but not uncomfortable).

Re: Flashlight and camara

The LED lights have the advantages of using less battery power, no bulb to break so they tend to last longer and can be used out of the water without worring about the light over heating. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-55/026166/Princeton-Tec-Shockwave-L.E.D.-Light.html
For the underwater camera the Sealife DC 1000 is one of the most popular cameras and is a great value. For scuba diving the Elite kit works best because it includes a strobe and wide-angle lens.

Scuba Gear Customer Review: Sealife DC800 8.0 Megapixel Camera - $399.00

Posted 11/9/2009 10:05:52 AM in Scuba Gear Reviews

Rating:Sealife DC800 8.0 Megapixel Camera Great Value

For the value, this is an amazing camera. We have taken it on numerous dives so far and couldnt be happier. Ensure that you learn the different setting modes to use this camera to its best ability. Landscape is an all around great mode for day time photos and of course use the sea mode for underwater. The anti-shake, and night modes are also good. My only complaint is you can not change from shooting mode to display while in the housing. You will also need to buy extra moisture munchers because the ones we got with the camera were already pink.

Scuba Gear Customer Review: Scuba.com Special $8.00 off Mini U Beam L.E.D. Light - ($8.00)

Rating:Scuba.com Special $8.00 off Mini U Beam L.E.D. Light Mini U Beam L.E.D. Light

We purchased 2 of these lights to do night time snorkeling. The best part was that you can use them in and out of the water. We used them when we were getting ready to go in the water. The lights were about half the brightness of our Ikelite PCA lights. I would not have wanted to use these alone without the Ikelites but for the price, they were a great supplement. We had 4 of us snorkeling together so we all stayed together and shared the light.

Scuba Gear Customer Review: Henderson 3mm Thermoprene Wetsuit Jacket - $125.99

Posted 11/9/2009 6:29:46 AM in Scuba Gear Reviews

Rating:Henderson 3mm Thermoprene Wetsuit Jacket Quality Product

Im about 56" and 157 pounds so I usually find myself between sizes on wetsuits. The Medium was a nice fit in this suit. When I originally tried it on I was a little bothered by the front zipper but since my dive was fast approaching, I decided to give it a try and Im glad I did. The front zipper made it easy to slip the suit on and off while on the dive boat. It is a good looking suit that is functional and comfortable. It provided just the right warmth in 70 degree water and dried quickly in my cabin on the cruise ship.

Re: Career Options for Commercial Diving

The field of commercial diving can offer a great deal of possibilities to an individual. Commercial divers can find a niche for themselves doing underwater welding, non-destructive testing, photography, and even medical based jobs depending upon the direction the person is interested in exploring.

My advice to anybody interested in the field of commercial diving is to contact one of the better known commercial diving schools and talk to a counselor there. I myself spent a couple days at the Ocean Corp in Houston Texas before deciding that a career as a Scuba Instructor was more along my interest level. A few of the schools you could talk to would be the Ocean Corp, Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle or The College of Oceaneering here in Southern California. They are far better prepared to give you all the information you are seeking. Good luck!

Scuba Gear Customer Review: Neosport by Henderson Unisex Sport Skin Jumpsuit - $34.95

Posted 11/7/2009 6:36:34 AM in Scuba Gear Reviews

Rating:Neosport by Henderson Unisex Sport Skin Jumpsuit Neosport by Henderson Unisex Sport Skin Jumpsuit Review

All I have been able to do so far was try the dive skin on when it arrived. The fit is splendid. After inspecting the garment I was pleased with its construction. The skin appears to be exactly what I wanted. My only complaint was it did not ship as it was suppose to according to the web page, therefore, the birthday present was 2 months late. I have since found a $6.00 better price but now I do not need it.

Career Options for Commercial Diving

Hello,

My brother is considering starting a career in commercial diving. He has his advanced Open Water Certificate already but will probably be looking to take a full certification course within the next year. Are there any schools in Canada which you would reccomend?

What options does he have as a commercial diver? What different directions would you reccomend for a 21 year old just starting out? Is a life long career possible?

How long do commercial divers typically work for? I´ve heard an average of 3-4years and then they get out and work a different angle of the industry like be an ROV technician, off-shore supervisor, or work for a company that hires the divers.

Besides the obvious, what are some of the lesser known dangers in this industry? What is the fatality rate?

Thankyou

Scuba Gear Customer Review: Oceanic EOS Regulator with Dry Valve Technology - $649.95

Posted 11/5/2009 11:58:29 PM in Scuba Gear Reviews

Rating:Oceanic EOS Regulator with Dry Valve Technology Awesome Regulator

i wanted the best regulator and oceanic eos delivered it all. the regulator was small, easy to handle and breathing was effortless at all depths (recreational diving depths). large front purge button makes it easy to clear water and the mouth piece was very comfortable. the air flow adjustor worked flawlessly. being one of the most important pieces of scuba equipment, the best primary stage regulator was what i wanted and the oceanic eos met all my expectations and more. i definitely recommend it!
