Rating: Important Piece of Safety Gear - - Lube the O-ring!
Reviewer: Eric F., Monday, January 19, 2009
the strobe is very bright, and i chose it for its long battery life. every diver should carry one. although we were spotted in less than 30 minutes, the dm and i were separated from the boat when the captain went below to use the head, while we were in the water. when he came up, he had lost our bubbles. when we surfaced, the boat was a speck on the horizon. he could not hear my whistle. fortunately, we were off turneffe atoll, so we were able to swim to a reef and stand in the shallows. however, there was only an hour or so of daylight left. fortunately, the captain saw our safety sausage.
one caveat the o-ring needs to be lubricated and treated very carefully. the instructions say "occasionally" but if you install the cap with a slightly dry o-ring, the o-ring will distort and the strobe will flood. when tektite was slow to replace it, scuba.com came to the rescue and sent a replacement.

Rating: Almost Perfect
Reviewer: Scott Michael, Thursday, December 25, 2008 - View all my reviews
The strobe itself is bright and the twist on switch with its double O-rings is great. The battery life is superb. I keep mine in the pocket of my BCD for emergencies but it would also work perfectly for a line or shore marker for a night dive.
It misses 5 stars for 2 reasons.
- 10 years ago I had a a teklite strobe for jogging and it had a spring loaded clip on the Velcro band that would expand as much as a cm as you moved. I wish they had retained that.
- All of the 90 plastic edges are sharp. I used a dremel tool to smooth them over. Sandpaper or a small file would also work, but a better solution would be to change the mold and eliminate them.

This is visible in some of the murkiest environments especially when I am leading other diver through the murky waters of the Montana lakes. Every diver should have one of these to ensure the dive party stays together.

Rating: Long Lasting

Just go one to replace my old one. It finally died after 20 years of being beaten up windsurfing and deep diving.

Rating: Looking for Really Tough strobe?

For Tech Wreckers is the "Must Have" tool leading back to shot line. Extra bright and reliable. Easy to operate and rigid.
