Charging the Battery BacPac The Battery BacPac essentially adds an additional battery to the HD HERO Original and HD HERO2 cameras increasing the recording time to four hours.
You will need to charge the Battery BacPac and the camera separately as they each have their own respective USB port. Using one USB cable plugged into just the camera and not the Battery BacPac will not end up charging the Battery BacPac and vise versa.
Note that the Battery BacPac (and all other Premium Accessories) are not compatible with Standard Definition HERO and HD HERO 960 cameras.
Camera Compatibility with Battery BacPac The HD HERO2 camera and the HD HERO Original camera are compatible with the Battery BacPac.
The HD HERO2 camera will work with the Battery BacPac out of the box.
A software update is required for the HD HERO Original camera to work with the Battery BacPac. To update your HD HERO Original camera software, please go to the HD HERO Original Camera Software Update page.
Once you find the LCO/LCF option in your HD HERO Original camera's Settings menu, your camera should work with the Battery BacPac.
Please note that the Battery BacPac is not compatible with the HD HERO 960 camera or the Standard Definition HERO cameras.
Using the Battery BacPac When connected and powered On, the Battery BacPac serves as an initial source of power. Once the Battery BacPac is depleted, your GoPro will switch over to draw from the battery inside the camera. The battery switch over happens automatically and does NOT interrupt recording. When attached to the original HD HERO or the HD HERO2 camera: • The camera LCD displays “2” next to battery icon when drawing from the Battery BacPac. • The camera LCD displays “1” when drawing from the internal battery. • The Battery BacPac LCD displays the BacPac’s charge level. • The Battery BacPac LCD is blank when the BacPac is depleted. When attached to the HERO3 camera: • The camera LCD displays charge status of each battery: top row for Battery BacPac, bottom row for internal battery. • The Battery BacPac LCD displays the BacPac’s charge level. • The Battery BacPac LCD is blank when the BacPac is depleted. PRO tiP: The Battery BacPac will only function if the GoPro camera battery is installed.
