Rating: Not good for close photos and Battery life is inadequate
Reviewer: Christian A.
I purchased this inexpensive camera before a trip to Bonaire. I wish I had paid more. I was able to get reasonable pictures from 5-10 ft but anything small would never focus no matter what settings I used. It says that macro is 2-4 feet. Dont believe it. I could not get tube worms or any kind of shrimp photos. Fish from a distance were fine. I basically had to have a set of batteries after each dive to replace. You get what you pay for. What can you expect for a $100 dive camera. I did like that I could easily fit it into my BC and like I say 5-10 ft away was fine.

Just getting started and wanted to document my dives. Bought an 8 gig card for the camera and havent had any problems whatsoever. Takes pretty good pictures and video. Wasnt ready to spend hundreds of dollars for a top of the line camera. This definitely fits my needs and more. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a decent camera at a very decent price.

Purchased this camera for my wife - I have the DC1400 and she wanted something simple for herself. This camera is easy to set-up and use - Small, compact and not a lot of functions a very basic point and shoot camera - The pictures are good both underwater and on land - Very easy to use and even easier when you read the operations manual - Would recommend to anyone wanting to get into underwater photography without spending a bundle and at this price you cant go wrong - The wide angle lens makes it even better.

Rating: Good dive camera at a great price
Reviewer: David Morgan
We resently purchased this Sealife Mini 2 with the float strap. We love it! It fits in our pocket of our BC. We also have a Sealife 600 but the batteries are very had to find. The Sealife Mini2 runs on AAA batteries, so there is no problem finding batteries. Worked great underwater, nice pictures.

I really like the camera and it was easy to set-up and start using. However, it stopped working just two weeks after I got it, but Scuba.com makes correcting these types of problems easy to fix. They are exchanging the camera and Im sure the new one will work just fine.

Rating: Great camera for the price
Reviewer: John Schneider
This camera takes good quality pictures. Some of the reviews said the battery (replaceable) didnt last long. I found that it lasted a long time. There were negative reviews concerning leakage. I found that if care is taken each time the card-battery door is opened to be sure the gasket is clean that there was no problem. I use the camera on my sail boat and for diving. You cant beat it for the price.

Rating: Underwater camera
Reviewer: Gregory Bassett
I received my Sealife mini 2 underwater camera just before going on a cruise to the Bahamas. We went snorkeling while we were there and I used my camera to capture some memories that I would have never had the opportunity to take home. Not only was the camera taking great underwater pictures but I also took a lot of pictures on the ship and at the ports. This camera works great and is small, lightweight, and durable. I am very happy with my purchase and my memories that I now have in photo albums purchased during the cruise. For me this camera made memories.

Rating: Pleased with the Sealife Mini 2
Reviewer: Bernd Frazier
The camera worked just fine. The operator on the other hand had to do a little learning. Its tricky to take pics underwater, particularly the first time around. The movie function was particularly good. Bobbing up and down while snorkeling makes it tough on focusing for a single shot. I did better at the end of the trip. The camera definitely met my needs. It was easy to operate and produced good quality pictures. It will have future use. If not in the water, it works great out.

Rating: Great beginner camera!
Reviewer: Barret M.
I purchased this camera for my wife as her OWD C-card gift. As a beginner, she just snaps tons of pics underwater as she swims past...the easy to use controls are perfect for her. We used the camera one day on land and got some very nice pictures as well.

Questions and Answers for Sealife Mini 2 Underwater Dive Camera:

  • Dennis:

    1. Will it float? 2. If it will not, what can I buy that will attach to it to make it float? 3. Is it suitable for my 10 year old granddaughter to use snorkeling?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Dennis, no this camera will sink if you let go of the camera. If you want to float it, then I would suggest the http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-540/168100/Scuba-Deluxe-Float-Strap.html. If you use the float strap then if the camera is let go of then it will float the unit to the surface.

  • James:

Can I also use this camera for out of the water such as family gatherings

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes, it functions perfectly both above and below the surface of the water.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This camera will work with the Sealife External Strobe and LED Video light without any trouble. The new Wide Angle lens will also work.

  • Renee:

New Reefmaster mini or the Mini II? Which is the better underwater camera for a novice underwater photographer considers ease of use as important as picture quality.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

They are both perfect choices. Basically the same camera, with the Mini 2.1 being a slightly updated version. It comes with the wide angle lens and works to a slightly deeper depth, although the original Mini still works to the limits of the recreation diving planner.

  • Frank:

Hi, Is this camera compatible with the Nikon SB105 strobe? Thanks, Frank

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It is compatible with any photo sensitive slave strobe.

  • Jeanette:

Hi, does this camera have a built in flash? If not, is there an inexpensive one you can recommend?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes the camera has a built in flash.

  • glenn:

when I use mini 2 in video mode on land, the sound is not good. low volume and then loud sound. anybody about 3 feet or more it dose not pick up.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It is designed for use underwater first and made functional on land second. Underwater the goal is to get as close as possible to your subject, hence the limited range on the sound pick up.

  • Don:

Currently have a Sea life reef master mini with a wide angle lens. My question is can I use the same wide angle lens with new camera? Also, can I get my old camera refurbished (buttons stick but camera and housing work fine)? Thanks, Don

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The best thing to do is contact Sealife directly for warranty repair. http://www.scuba.com/resources/repair/sealife.asp

  • Don:

Currently have a Sea life reef master mini with a wide angle lens. My question is can I use the same wide angle lens with new camera? Thanks, Don

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes this will work with both mini cameras.

  • Ronald:

What is the difference between the Sealife mini and the Sealife reefmaster mini? do they both work above and below water? thank you

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The Reefmaster Mini @.1 is the latest version is a better camera and comes with the wide angle lens.

  • betty:

Does this model have a rechargeable connector that can be purchased?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No, batteries would need to be replaced or you could get a set of rechargeable batteries.

  • George:

Is this the SL332 with the wide angle lens for $169 ? ? ? ?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No, that would be the Sealife Reefmaster Mini 2.1. The item you are asking about here is the SL330

  • Emma:

How do you get pictures off of the internal memory?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The camera comes with a SD card reader. Pull the SD card out of the camera and plug it into the reader and then into the USB port to download.

  • bob:

does the sealife 11 take good clear pictures and does it have it`s own flash? I have under water camera in a housing and the pictures it takes are not good . going to dive with the whale sharks thanks bob

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This has a built in flash, but for the best colors you would need to add a digital strobe. The camera's flash is not powerful enough for good underwater pictures.

  • richard:

how many megapixels does the sealife mini II camera have?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It has 9.0 megapixels - that was a very good question

  • Rick:

Does this camera come with a microphone to be used in video mode? I will use this for canyoneering more than diving.

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No audio recording on this camera.

  • Jeff:

Does this camera need any casing or is it good to go underwater as is?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Ready to go underwater. The camera is built into the housing.

  • Dan:

The Sealife page says this model has 28mb internal memory and a spare o-ring. Your we page says a 14mb internal memory and no mention of the spare o-ring. Please clarify. Thanks.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Our site was incorrect on the day you looked at that. A typo. The camera does have 28mb of internal memory. The spare O-ring is prepackaged in the kit from the manufacturer.

  • Mary:

I have an canon 7.1 megapixel camera with underwater housing Ive used in the past on my dives. I want to upgrade to a camera that will give clearer pictures with more accurate color, especially at deeper depths. Would you recommend the mini, mini 2 or another model? I would like to keep price low as possible. Thanks!

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The Mini 2 comes with a wide angel lens and will be a good choice.

  • john:

can the camera be connected directly to my computer via a usb cable or do you have to remove the card and go thru the reader to download. If the battery gets low can you loose pics on the card?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, yes you can connect the camera directly to the computer and as soon as the picture is taken it is saved to the memory card until you delete it.

  • Mark:

I am a novice scuba diver. I ordered the Mini II...I didnt order the macro lens as I wasnt sure how often I would use it. Do most people take most of their pics with or without it? Is it easy to change underwater?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Mark, the macro lens just helps with small close-up items. As for using that you would need to install it on the camera underwater.

  • Richard:

hello I bought this camera before I went on my cruse and during my cruse it broke, I went on a scuba dive and I dont have my C card so the dive was only a 20-40 foot dive and we only went to 20 feet after the dive I noticed there was water behind the LCD display, so I put it back in the carrying case and when I got back to the ship opend the door and water was inside, the o ring is in mint condition and the camera is totaled, how do I go about a refund, I also watned to mention the pictures it did take at 20 feet were bad really bad, blury no color and just crap

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Richard, if you go to: http://www.scuba.com/ads/shipping.asp#return. That will take you to our return form. Just print, fill out and put that form in the box when you ship it back to us.

  • alex:

Does this camera take OK pictures under and above water?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It was designed by Sealife to work well both above and below the water.

  • jonathan:

  • Stephanie:

Can i keep the camera under water for as long as I want? or is there a limit as to how long it can stay in the water? can it record? does it have sound?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

I suppose you could if you needed to. The battery would run out eventually and there is maintenance like putting silicone on the O-rings. Yes there is "video mode" with sound.

  • Rich:

how long will delivery take to Canada? I would need it by nov 14

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Rich, going out standard it could take up to two weeks. We do have express shipping options.

  • Matt:

Does it make a difference with the Sealife Mini 2 if you go in fresh water or salt water?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hi Matt, It makes no difference. Just make sure that you give it a good rinse after using it in salt water.

  • Richard:

I am looking to order this and needed to know if it would be shipped to Windsor Ontario Canada by nov 14? and how much would the express shipping be if I did that

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Richard, going out standard you are looking at up to 2 weeks delivery for $29.95. As for express we have anywhere from Next Day delivery to 3 day delivery and that would be from $32.51 to $46.88.

  • laura:

Why is it so cheap?? Other places I have seen this camera are selling it from £100+

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Laura, this is last years model and this camera is a discontinued camera. The manufacture is coming out with something new for next year. Since this is a closeout item so we will not be getting anymore of these from the manufacture.

  • gennah:

hello, im looking to buy an underwater camera so i can go further in my photography. i just want to make sureits going to work and get the good pictures i like. most of my pictures are in depth. although i will not be using it in sea water, i just want to use it in lake and such. will it work the same?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Gennah, if you go to:http://www.sealife-cameras.com/gallery/mini-ii. This will show you just a few pictures of what this camera will do.

  • Eldon:

I was wondering how long the typical alkaline batteries vs rechargeable batteries would last doing video? I saw a mention in the reviews of 10 minutes, is this typical?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Using standard Alkaline batteries we've noticed the batteries to typically last a normal day's diving. But the problem with that is there is no way of knowing how new or old the batteries are when they are placed in the camera. Even is just purchased.

  • judy:

Does it come with a carrying strap? I had a sealife camera a few years ago and the viewer did not display well at all for focusing. Is this one more effective?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Judy, yes this comes with the wrist strap and yes the LCD screen is a better upgrade from the camera you had in the past.

  • Brittney:

How long is the typical battery life is youre just taking pictures? I saw some people mentioned a 10 minute life, but Im not sure if that was for picture taking or videos.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Impossible to say. Battery life depends completely on type and quality of the batteries used and how frequently in a row images are shot. I have seen standard alkaline batteries die quite quick. I've seen Lithium batteries last 2 full dives. I currently am using a set of the newer fast charge, rechargeable nickel metal hydride NiMH with very good success.

  • Albert:

Can the Sealife Mini 2 download the pictures to an iPad and or a Mac desktop computer?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, you can upload the pictures to anything with a usb or SD card port.

  • karen:

Can you continual click with this camera?

Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Dear Karen, This camera can't do continual shots. It needs time to record the shot.

  • Judy:

What is the difference between the Sealife Mini 2 underwater Dive camera and the Sealife Reefmaster SL332 underwater Camera? Thanks, Judy

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The SL332 is a newer version of the Mini 2. It has better battery consumption and an updated processor giving better images.

  • tony:

going to Great Barrier Reef. want to take underwater photos. must be easy to use. do not want to spent a lot because this will be only time used. but want camera that will take descent picts. price range around $200. want to be able to put photos in with photos taken with regular digital canon rebel camera. what do you recommend?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This camera would be the closest one to the needs you describe currently on the market. it''s simple to use, takes still images as well as video and is very reasonably priced.

  • Jeff:

I am considering purchasing this camera. As part of my research with GoPro cameras, there was discussion of using a red filter for shots below 10 feet. Does this camera offer an option or capability to apply a red filter?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, this camera doesn''t have an option for a red filter.
