Dear Scuba.com: You mention this Henderson dive skin was a Scuba Lab testers choice. I have been a subscriber to Scuba Diving for years and cant find this particular test. Could you let me know what issue it was in? Im very interested in buying two of these (or perhaps lavacore) but want to read the review first. Thanks and regards, -Matt
Trying to decide between the Henderson 17 oz Pololefin and the Lyrca skins. Will be using it to dive in Mexico in the summer 2014, looks like water temps are in 80sin Mexico that time of year (not sure if that is surface temps?) as well as future snorkel/dive trips in the Carribean. Will the Pollefin be too warm? Then for size, I see that you say to go with waist and chest size. Im between sizse and my preference is to go larger. If the suit is a little too big will it still have a bit of warmth? Advance thanks for your help.
The Polyolefin is perfect for this. Keep in mind that even in 80 degree water, you are losing body heat 4 times faster than in 80 degree air. That temperature is 18 degrees cooler than your body. It will feel nice and warm for a little bit, but before long you'll get chilled without some sort of thermal protection.
Hi, I am going on a trip to Utila and we also will be doing some night dives. I have a full length 5mm wetsuit (not very comfy) and a 3 mm shorty (much more comfortable). Considering getting the 17 oz dive skin but im very petite. 52" and 105# with a 25 waist. the xs seems too big based on the chart?? any other recommendations so i can bring my shorty but still stay warm on the night dive.?
I want to buy the 17oz dive skin but, having read a lot of reviews, Im confused about sizing. Some people say they run small, others say they run big. Im an American size 12, 55" tall. Which size should I get? Thanks Vanessa
Hello Vanessa, this is a uni-sex sizing. When you are sizing this the 2 most important measurements, height is a secondary measurement and throw weight out the window. Then you are going to want to order the SMALL size. If you have any other questions or would like to place an order please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.
Thinking of purchasing the Henderson 17oz Superior Polyolefin Dive Skin Jumpsuit for my wife to use as a base layer under full 7mm during quarry (deep and cold even in summer) dives as part of her open water cert. Specific question regarding sizing: wife is curvy, 54, 130, 34D chest, not sure her hip measurements. Size chart suggests XS, but I read reviews that say XS was REALLY, REALLY XS:) Suggestion?
Hello K, when you are sizing a wetsuit or dive skin. The two most important measurements are going to be your chest/bust and waist. Height is a secondary measurement and weight is the last measurement you take into account. Taking in all the measurement you have given I would suggest a size small.
Is this wetsuit suitable to swim laps in? Or is it too constrictive in the arms for good motion
Is the Polyolefin skin really warmer than the Lycra Hot skin? Im a snorkeler. Wont be layering. Dont want any buoyancy. Also, sizing. I tried on a small Lycra that fit good. Would the Polyolefin fit the same? From the sizing chart here, I would fit into a XS...
Sizing should the same, and these is definetly warmer than a regular lycra suit without added buoyancy.
I live in the state of Maine. Will a dive skin help to keep me warm in the cold water here. I skin dive and boogy board with my grandson? Thanks for your help. Fred
This will add some thermal protection. A 3mm wetsuit or the Lavacore products will be warmer. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-43/149217/Ocean-Quest-3-2mm-Premium-Super-Stretch-Titanium-Jumpsuit---Wetsuit....html http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-44/110944/LavaCore-by-Oceanic-Trilaminate-Polytherm-Front-Zip-Dive-Wetsuit.html
Im going to swim and snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Im worried about the dangerous jellyfishes they have over there. Would this Dive Skin protect me from them and also UV rays? If not, what other product would you recommed? Thank you.
I have this and love it but mine came with the spine padding. I removed it because it was very uncomfortable. Since Ive had mine 2 or 3 years, Im wondering if they are still made with the spine pad.
My bare 3mm is now too warm for my local lake. I was planning on buying a 1 or 1.5mm neoprene suit and trying to decide between the bare thermalskin and the neosport xspan. is this dive skin comparable for warmth on its own? also, i wear a 2xl in bare, should i go up one size for this suit? thanks!
Hello Jack, this suit will give you the same warmth as a 2mm suit. When you are sizing a wetsuit or dive skin. The two most important measurements are going to be your chest/bust and waist. Height is a secondary measurement and weight is the last measurement you take into account.
I will be taking a trip to Turks & Caicos in October 2015. The water temp should be 75 and up. Will this product be warm enough or should I go to the 3mm wetsuit? Thank you.
I have Raynauds and a shortie that I have is not warm enough even with booties. I will be snorkeling in St. Martin in December and was told that a lined skin is what I need. I am not sure what this is and if it would be warm enough. Any and all information would be appreciated.
I AM 260 LBS. 58" WILL YOUR 3XXX SUIT PART # P810UF FIT. I BOUGHT A 5 MM FROM YOU SIZE 3XXX AND IT RUNS A BIT TIGHT ON ME. IS THIS SUIT MORE FORGIVING?

Needing a new suit for a warm water destination I looked over various selections of shorties and 3mm jumpsuits. My destination was comfortable water but not the warmest time of year, and I was aware that I’d need not only some sort of insulation towards the end of my trip as my body acclimated to the conditions but quite possibly for a bit of environmental protection as well. Something as simple as a little, accidental coral cut or that one unseen jellyfish in the water can ruin an expensive dive trip, not to mention that 45 minutes snorkeling during the mid-day’s sun.
After trying on several shorties and deciding they just weren’t what I had in mind for this trip, I turned my attention to 3mm and 3/2 full suits. This choice didn’t thrill me either as airline weight allowances being what they are these days adding the extra neoprene to my luggage just wasn’t an option. Not to mention that it might be a bit much for snorkeling, should I choose to go.
Looking for options I stumbled across the Henderson 17oz. Superior Polyolefin suit. Made from a 300 Denier Polyolefin/lycra fabric it is durable and comfortable. It has a brushed velour lining that has a nice feel against the skin. Being a fabric suit and not neoprene it is neutrally buoyant, will dry very fast, and is resistant to the damaging effects of the sun as well as chlorine. I was pleased at how comfortable it fit, thinking the “squeeze” of a wetsuit won’t be missed at all. The thumb loops and ankle stirrups were nice and will be very useful should I use this later on underneath my 7mm wetsuit, but for the time being they just helped with the over all fit of the suit. The best part of all is the material has a warmth equivalent to 2mm neoprene wetsuit!
In a nutshell, this suit was perfect for what I needed. Light weight, durable, comfortable, and warm! The bonus of not being buoyant made this an easy choice for not only this trip, but for many more in the future!
