These are designed to use with a mask. With the mask on, snorkel in your mouth you can lay face down in the water and breathe. If you go underwater the snorkel will fill with water and must be cleared before using it at the surface again.

Mask and Snorkels
After each use, rinse mask/snorkel with fresh water and air dry in a cool area out of direct sunlight. Store your mask in the box it came in. Do not leave it in hot places like the trunk of your car, etc.
