Reviewer: Steve Hammitt,
This snorkel performs perfectly . You go under when snorkeling and it blocks the water instantly . When you rise , air is there.
If water sneeks in somehow from your mouth , a quick puff(no major air clearing) and it is gone right out the bottom one way disharge vent/port.
My son is 4 and he had so much trouble with with $8 snorlels . He is a pro now and goes up and down like popcorn and butter blended togeter . The extra cost for me and my little guy was with every dime spent for incrediable diving/snorkeling.
Buy one , you will love it

I love this snorkel! I am a beginner, and had one incident where I had not blown all of the water out the day before. When I went in the water the next day I could hear this gurgling sound and then some water came in as I inhaled. I got scared, but after blowing the water out good I couldnt hear the gurgling anymore and it was dry from then on. I was snorkeling off Kauai, so the waves would come over the snorkel end quite a bit. I had no problems after I figured out the gurgling warning and blew it out each day.

Rating: the snorkel which seems hard to use...?
Reviewer: Rev Randall W Ackley, - View all my reviews
i bought this snorkel as a replacement for an old one. i find two things, the mouthpiece with its hose does not fit to the front of my mouth, but the length of the hose pushes it off to the left side, with the snorkel on the right. also, the snorkel does not get out of the water unless head erect or turned toward the snorkel. good materials, i continue to use it, doing laps. i had surgery on my neck and doctor said no more swimming i asked if ok if i used a snorkel. he said yes. so, i use a snorkel to swim laps.

Reviewer: vince robinson,
Im new to snorkeling so I have only used a few different snorkels. This one was awesome. It really works just like it says. Water doesnt get in at all when you go under water. I would highly encourage anybody to go with this one.

Naturally skeptical, I thought the claim of a truly dry snorkel was on parallel with a free trip to Fantasy Island. I am, however, pleased to report that after testing the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel in both calm and rough seas, it more than lived up to its claim. It was fantastic to free dive down and not come up with a snorkel full of salt water. I often end up with severe cotton mouth after spending a day clearing saltwater from my snorkel. I rest assured that those days will be few and far between with this excellently designed snorkel.

this is the first snorkel i have owned. i used it all through my open water certification. i used it to free dive a little and i didnt get a of water in it. if you dive deep enough with this snorkel in your mouth you will have to equalize it like your mask. my only complaint is that the mouth piece is so flexible and hangs just low enough that while you are diving when you grab for your low pressure inflator you will be grabbing your snorkel.

Rating: High Quality, Works Very Well - Completely Dry!
Reviewer: Kevin K., - View all my reviews
My wife uses this Oceanic snorkel and it is definitely superior to my Tusa completely dry snorkel. The floats on the flapper valve do not accidentally close the valve if she leans her head or takes a deep breath, as my Tusa will do. When you do get water into the snorkel through the mouthpiece when getting into the water, it is very easily expelled or simply drains out of the purge valve at the bottom.
I like this snorkel so much Im going to replace my Tusa with this model, since the Tusa will occasionally close with a deep breath and STAY shut. Neither my wife nor I have ever had this happen with the Oceanic.

I just back from snorkeling and diving with this snorkel.
Maybe it is Im used to the other kinds and this is the first time Ive used this type. Im giving it a 3 star because sometimes it did not open when I came back up on surface from free diving, not a good feeling.

Hello Evan, there is a flapper valve at the top of the snorkel tube. When water pressure come in contact with the top of the snorkel shuts the valve so no water travels down the tube. i want something good however, i am not an avid snorkeler...this is primarly for annual vacations.
thanks
I want to order a mask and snorkel for my trip (will use fins provided on the trip). Is there anything besides a mask and snorkel that I should buy? Also, how do I know whether a mask will fit. Is there a store in the Houston area that I can visit?

Our retail store is located in Southern California. All of our mask sizes are listed on the website for your convenience. Usually a wetsuit is desirable

Whats the difference/advantage of the Oceanic Ultra Dry silicon over the regular Ultra Dry. Arent they both silicon?
Bob (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
I believe what you are seeing is the BLACK silicone and the normal snorkel. Which is also the difference.

Function
Allows you to breathe while on the surface without lifting your head out of the water.
Preparation
Position the snorkel on the outside of the mask strap so it will be just forward of your left ear. Carefully lift the tab located at the bottom of the keeper slightly away from the barrel of the snorkel, and slide the keeper down over the mask strap and release the tab.
Use
To hold the snorkel in your mouth, gently bite on the mouthpiece tabs and keep your lips sealed around the mouthpiece. While snorkeling, keep your chin slightly up so the top of the snorkel stays out of the water. Water that does enter when you dive underwater or encounter a wave can be removed by exhaling a sharp blast of air into the mouthpiece. Use caution when inhaling in case some of the water is not removed. Repeat as necessary.
If water enters more frequently than normal, ensure that the snorkel is positioned properly on the mask strap, make sure that your mouth is sealed around the mouthpiece, and make sure that the end of the snorkel is out of the water while you are swimming. Also check to ensure that there are no holes or cuts in the mouthpiece, and that the round silicone purge valve located in the bottom of the barrel is not distorted or missing and is sealing the opening.
Care & Maintenance
At the end of each day of use, rinse your snorkel thoroughly in fresh water and towel dry. Do not allow the clear silicone portions of the snorkel to come in contact with items that are black rubber. This will cause the clear silicone to become discolored. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessive heat. Ensure that the snorkel is completely dry before storing. Store in a cool, dry location.
Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel
I used to hate snorkels. I only had one because I was required to as an instructor. Before that, it was rare you’d find me with a snorkel on my mask unless some silly resort or boat made me carry it. And this isn’t a new. I’ve hated snorkels since they were all black rubber without a purge valve. I just really never saw the “need” for me to use one. Why deal with the hassle of blowing the water from a snorkel when I can just lift my head or roll over on my back and breath? Even in choppy water it just didn’t make sense.
That all changed one fun day in Hawaii.
On a non-diving trip to Maui I joined some non-diving friends for an afternoon at Molokini Crater snorkeling. I had grabbed some gear before the trip on the off chance I’d find the time to get into the water and among that was the Oceanic Ultra-Dry snorkel. Still hating snorkels I figured I’d be able to laze around the surface and relax for a few hours, see a few colorful fish that had grown accustomed to human’s daily intrusions. For the first half of the afternoon I was fairly impressed with how comfortable the snorkel fit into my mouth. The styling was extremely ergonomic with the mouthpiece being tipped just right allowing for an effortless fit. But it was still a snorkel and I still had every intention of ditching it or giving it away as soon as I got home.
Then the Manta Ray showed up.
I’d not really paid attention to the fact that the breeze had helped float me out away from everybody else and toward the middle. As I was getting ready to head back to the boat and think up an excuse as to why I was going to nap in the sunny deck for the rest of the afternoon a Manta swam past me. After the initial shock of seeing something I’d dreamed my entire diving career of being in the water with I calmed down a bit and swam parallel to it for a ways. It’d swim under me then back around. It’d swim off in the distance and back. The entire time I’m moving, looking, dunking the snorkel CONSTANTLY in my efforts to soak up as much time as I can watching this graceful creature. One more than one occasion I’d dive down and swim along with it under the water until my lungs were screaming for air. I’d zoom up to the surface, instantly get a breath of air and down I’d go again. After about 45 minutes the Manta left us and we were all called back to the boat.
It wasn’t until we were on the ride back that I’d begun to realize that not a single drop of water ever got into my snorkel. There was no clearing water out of it at all! I just surfaced and breathed. And all the times I’d been on the surface moving and looking, and dipping the end in the ocean, not once did I get surprised by a mouthful of water that I had to spit out. The snorkel really was comfortable, made well, and as dry as it claimed! What a pleasant surprise. I decided right then and there to keep that piece of gear as it isn’t every day you come across something that lives up to its billing such as that.
I still hate snorkels, but when I do go to use one, the Oceanic Ultra-Dry is the ONLY one I’ll choose.
