Rating: The Best Snorkel Ive tried !
Reviewer: michelle m., Thursday, June 07, 2007 - View all my reviews
My husband and I love this snorkel!
* The wave deflector does work to decrease the amout of water that may enter from a splash. And the water that does enter from a splash is quickly wisked away by the purge valve at the bottom - so no worries!
* The water tight valve at the top is practically fail-safe. No matter how fast or slow I submerge, or at what angle, the valve snaps shut with no water entry.
* Compared to the other valves on other snorkles, the Ultra Dry is the best. Its smaller, so its not bulky and doesnt add weight to the snorkel.
* With other snorkel valves, they may accidently snap shut when taking a large gasp of air due to pressure changes - but not the Ultra Dry! Even quickly rising out of the water for a huge breath of air, the Ultra Dry stays shut until the last minute and quickly opens when you need it.
* The only way I was able to get water into this snorkel was by swimming upside down, then exhaling under water, then quickly inhaling. And if thats the way you free dive and snorkel - youve got bigger problems!

Rating: LAKE HAVASU SNORKELER

Got it today. Tried it today. IMPRESSIVE!!! The snorkel lives up to its name!! I had no problems with water leakage except through the mouthpiece. But that can be rectified with the purchase of a smaller mouthpiece, which can and will be purchased through SCUBA.COM. The ONLY problem I had was the valve closing when a wave overcame the snorkel. It tends to shut off your breath. BUT!!! that is exactly what I want. I would rather have no air for a second than a mouthfull of water. When going under to look at Gods wonders, the snorkel stayed closed and remained closed until I resurfaced. I could ask for nothing more! I paired up my snorkel with the V3 M-Line Purge Mask (see my review there) and am extemely happy with the results. Next come the fins which will also be purchased through SCUBA.COM. Remember, take care or your equipment and it will take care of you! David Barber

Rating: Ultradry snorkel
Reviewer: Matt Maher, Saturday, January 06, 2007 - View all my reviews
This snorkel overall was pretty great. I have used standard snorkels before that you have to blow out all the water when you surface but this rarely had any water to blow out. You could dive underwater and resurface without having to blow forcefully most of the time. When waves would come in it would shut off too, preventing an unexpected lungfull of water. Occasionally, some water would find its way in but it was very easy to blow out. I would say when diving underwater 98 percent of the time there was no water in the snorkel at all. If I were to suggest an improvement it would be to make the shut off valve area a little more heavy duty since it seems to be very thin plastic in places that might break easily. The snorkel was very comfortable to wear and to have in your mouth for long periods of time.

Rating: Nice Product
Reviewer: Jeff Baker, Sunday, August 17, 2008 - View all my reviews
slightly less expensive than other "100% dry" snorkels, the Oceanic was a great investment. In moderate chop and waves, the snorkel performs exactly as advertised keeping the chamber dry and letting you enjoy the sights instead of worrying about constant purging. Be advised, however, that purposely submerging the unit is another story. I frequently free dive while snorkeling to depths of 8 to 10 feet and the unit will take on a small amount of water. That said, it is easily expelled with minimal effort without surfacing and doesnt interrupt your dive. I am concerned about the mask connection clip. The clip is small and difficult to bend over my mask strap. Time will tell if it stands up to repeated use. Bottom line, I would recommend this product to others.

this is an absolutely amazing snorkel. i just recently completed my scuba certification course and of course needede the necessary equipment, including the snorkel, after reading several reviews i decided to get this oceanic ultradry and let me tell you that i am glad i did, never one time did so much as a of water get inside of the snorkel, and as a beginner this feature was just one less thing that i had to worry about.
honestly i have to say that from this point on i will never buy any scuba equipment from any online compnay other than scuba.com the service was nothing short of amazing, and as others have mentioned in other reviews the customer service is something that i never expected an online company to have.
i will difinatly be a repeat customer.

Rating: Absolutely the best!
Reviewer: Ryan Arthur, Monday, April 23, 2007 - View all my reviews
Ive tried many snorkels before, and this one is hands down the best. I used it on a recent trip to Mexico and it allowed me to effortlessly dive down 15ft, surface and it was perfectly dry without the need to remove my head from under the water.
Amazingly brilliant and truly a must have for any snorkeler, even if youre just starting out. Who wants to be choking on sea water while exploring its depths or worrying about purging. In the chance that you get water in your mouth, it is not from the snorkelling tube but because of the seal created when you wrap your lips around the mouth peice. This can happen if you have a larger mouth, and youll want to get a larger gripper than sits better.

Rating: Not 100% dry, but easily the finest snorkel I have ever used!
Reviewer: Kevin M., Monday, August 11, 2008 - View all my reviews
the hype: its 100% dry! (no, it isnt)
the reality: its 99.764% dry (im guessing here). all there is to say about a snorkel is how comfortable it is to use and how dry it stays. well, this snorkel is as comfortable as they get and the random incidents where a or two will slip into it are paltry when you consider how effective it is overall in keeping water out of your mouth. you can easily find snorkels for less money, but after having used several models and gargeling with sea water on a regular basis, i opted to fork over the $$$ and get something that was designed to work as well as possible. and this snorkel is absolutely the best on the market. you wont regret the purchase.

Rating: Good snorkel, but ultradry?
Reviewer: Brian Meagher, Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - View all my reviews
This was a good snorkel as far as purging and keeping water out underwater. However oceanic claims youll never get a drip of water in this thing, and that simply isnt true. Many times when i came to the surface and inhaled i would get that familiar sound that indicates there was water in my snorkel. Fortunately the water was easy to clear so no big deal. But be warned if you buy this snorkel dont expect it to be ultradry. I gave it 4 stars because of my disappointment. On a side note the mouth piece seemed a little large and caused some jaw fatigue and at high speeds the snorkel created ALOT of drag.

Totally dry. Should you get water in the mouth piece by releasing it the bottom purge valve really does help in draining that water instantly. That being said, I found the valve closing unexpectedly while I was in the middle of drawing breath, due to either choppy water at the surface, or me incorrectly guaging my position relative to the surface, or to my head tilting, to be a harrowing experience. The last thing I need when I am out of breath is for that valve to close and panic me. 4 out of 5 because that is what it is supposed to do, even if I wound up not liking it.

I got this as part of my overall gear upgrade in preparation for a 10 day trip to Hawaii (the Big Island). I had on older "semi-dry" snorkel with the purge but decided to upgrade. I really liked this product. It worked out great and I never had any problems in using it. My wife did say she thought it was kind of loud, that she could really hear me breathing thru it on the surface...but do you really care about that? I know I didnt and I joked with her that it was intentional...so she could know I was still breathing!

This snorkel is a dream come true, my husband and I are both so amazed at the difference between our old snorkels and the water problems we had with them and these Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkels, we bought 2 of them and feel that it was money well spent as the difference between old and new was like night and day. A plus was that the shipping was so quick, especially coming from across the country. We used them while down in Middle Caicos for 2 weeks recently and cant wait to use them again.

This snorkel proves that there was room for improvement even in such a simple basic piece of equipment!
Is it really 100% dry? In most situations, yes! In the rare case, where the angle of the sealing flap allows it to fall open and face an oncoming wave, no, not completely. But it does better than you would expect, and is definitely the way to go. I got one for my wife, a snorkeler who has complained (mildly) about water getting into her "standard" snorkel. I love it myself.

The snorkel is said to be 100% dry. This was not true. I have another brand snorkel that performs as well as the absolute. I used the snorkel on a recent trip to the Philippines and the snorkel constantly had a small amount of water get into the the breathing tube and did not seem to clear as easily as my other snorkel. The water seemed to stay in the bottom and if you breathed hard you would inhale water and at times i had to surface and remove it to get it to clear properly.

Ive always had an issue w/ snorkels, I was always sucking in water but w/ this Oceanic Ultradry its like night and day! I would say its not 100% since I do sometimes get some water in it but its no big deal. The purge on the bottom gets rid of the small amout of water that can get in.
Still, its great, soon as you surface you just start to breath again and there is never any water to worry about.
I very highly recommend it esp. for the price, you cant beat it!

The Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkels helped make my first snorkeling trip to the US Virgin Islands a great success! The snorkel was very comfortable and I NEVER had any trouble with water in the tube. The design of the tube allowed me to turn my head and get a full range of viewing without fear of aspirating. I quickly learned to trust it and could focus on all the activity below the surface. I definitely recommend this snorkel for stress-free snorkeling. dlw

Ok I have to say this is the best snorkel I/we have ever used. I purchased 4 of these before we went to Playa last and everyone just loved them. The dry feature worked with no one having any problems either from waves or when you slipped a little deeper to get a closer look. We had some in the group who were first time ocean snorkelers and not very confident this feature made a huge difference. Ages of users 53 to 22 male and female.

After using cheap snorkels in the Caribbean on previous trips my wife and I decided it was time to buy some good equipment for our Cozumel trip this year. I purchased 2 of the Ultra-dry snorkels and both my wife and I loved them. The mouthpiece was a little large for my wife, but not uncomfortable by any means she said. Mine fit and worked perfectly. Cant wait to use them again!

if your looking for 100% dry this isnt the snorkel for you but if your looking for as close as possible this is it. everything works great on this snorkel. if you do get water in this unit (which is rare and minimal) there is plenty of room inside the snorkel to seperate incoming air and water from each other so you can take enough of a breath to clear the unit. love this snorkel

This is not a total dry snorkel! Was at first disappointed. While standing in neck high water, snorkel was succeptable to side splash into the snorkel. Once you submerge snorkel works great. Does seal completely. For those who snorkel additional cost is not worth it. This is especially true for those who plan to spend most of their time on surface. Overall though snorkel is good.

i love this snorkel!!!!!
it clears very easily if a small amount of sea soup finds its way through a very good system.
it wasnt absolutely dry, but i dont want my money back. its a great performer and it has a very comfortable mouthpiece.

This snorkel worked as promised for the first week of vacation. During the second week it was letting water in via the little plastic disk. With several adjustments it worked correctly again. I have had other snorkels with no problems, so I am not completely satisfied with this one. I should say, however, my husbands snorkel did not have the same problem and worked fine.

Good dry snorkel, but remember if you take the mouthpiece out of your mouth e.g. to scuba, water will ingress through the mouthpiece so it still needs clearing. Also, if the tube gets tipped while breathing through it the valve can slide shut cutting off air. It does seal well when you dive down though, so if you dont mind it being quite large its a great bit of kit.

Reviewer: William Diaz, Tuesday, August 28, 2007
I am pleased with the performance of the snorkle but have a problem with the snorkle keeper that attaches to the mask strap. It feels flimsy and once fell off of my mask strap after a dive. If that had happened during the dive the snorkle would have been lost for sure. aside from the keeper the snorkle works very well. just be sure to use a more secure snorkle keeper.

Fortunately, this snorkel made everything easy. I was able to dive under the water without any water getting in, and the purge valve worked great when I needed it. Highly recommended.

I have been using the snorkel for almost a month. So far it has lived up to its claims. No water has leaked into the snorkel. I have used it while swimming in the pool, lake and ocean. The only thing that caused some concern was jaw fatigue after the first few times using it. I have noticed that after the using it several more times it started to loosen up.

This snorkel is great. You can dive a millions times and no water gets in through the top. When its not in your mouth and you need to clear it, it just takes a simple blow and all the water is gone. The only problem is that if you tip your head back it cuts of the air but if your snorkeling and your head is tipped back youre doing it wrong.

Some water does enter the snorkel but not as much and not as often as the other snorkels I have owned . So while not quite as dry as advertised , its still the best Ive ever had and I would not want to return it . But I do not understand how water even enters the snorkel because I swim on the surface and the snorkel does not ever submerge .

Its a nice piece of equipment, but if the concept behind this snorkel is that there will be absolutely no water in it upon surfacing, that is not accurate. In the two occassions I used it this past summer, there was consistently some residual water near my mouth piece that required jettisoning.

Bought three of these for the family and used them six days for snokeling in St. John USVI. I used it diving down for a better view, the others stayed on top of the water for the most part. All three of us agreed that the snorkels were the best weve used.

Needed better instructions. I had trouble using the clear valve. Great for not taking wave water in the snorkel.
