Rating: Akona by Sherwood Roller Backpack Bag

I bought this bag for my husband for his thirtieth birthday. Hes used it at least five times in the past month and he loves it. Some reviewers have said that the bag fits two sets of gear but when my husband fills it only with his, I dont see how a second set of gear would comfortably fit in. Didnt have any problems with the zippers nor with the wheels. Overall its a great product and my husband is very happy with it.

Rating: Best bag for the money

This is an awesome bag. I have already abused it somewhat and it stands up to it like a champ. The removable reg bag, the fin storage, and the roomy main storage are perfect for a cold water diver or two warm water divers. The security cover is great to keep my stufF MINE when going thru the airport (especially LAX).The rollers are the prime pick here... no more lugging heavy EQ around... roll it away and save your back.

Rating: Great bag, Lots of room for all my gear
Reviewer: Scott Michael, Monday, December 01, 2008 - View all my reviews
Fin pockets, Large outside pockets, easy to move. Not exactly sure why they put a water bottle on the outside of the bag as I think Id rather have a bigger zippered pocket, but that just nit-picking. Room for my gear and my wifes wetsuit and snorkeling equipment. The fact that you can completely tuck the backpack straps away to prevent the baggage handlers from ripping them off is great. The bag is BIG and it is easy to go over the airlines weight limit if youre not a careful packer especially with cold weather gear. That not a fault of the the bag but of the the airlines. Still you need to be aware of the fact that you you may be hit with extra fees these days, especially with a big bag like this.

Rating: Durable and roomy
Reviewer: Jeff M., Friday, September 28, 2007
I bought this bag to be used on a trip to Roatan, Honduras. It easily fit all of my (XL) and my wifes (S) gear (BCs, fins, masks, snorkels, computers, lights, slates). With all of that in, the weight was 48 pounds. The bag that comes with it to protect did protect it for this trip, but it got torn so it wont be much good for future trips. Having that bag around it also made it very difficult to maneuver, as the only handle that remains exposed is the one on top. The large wheels (which are exposed when the bag is on it) were great, and made it very easy to roll over carpet, along docks, and even on tightly packed sand. Highly recommend the bag - it withstood multiple plane rides and baggage handlers going to and from Honduras, and even a helicopter ride when we were evacuated due to hurricane Felix!

Rating: Akona Roller Backpack
Reviewer: Jody S., Sunday, September 09, 2007
i read all the reviews on scuba.com and in all the magazines i could find before making this purchase. they were all helpful. this bag has just about everything – lots of space – the pockets are spacious and well placed. i’m not sure why there is the bottle and pocket on the front – i agree we should all stay hydrated, but i think removing the bottle and enlarging the existing pocket is more practical. i went to key largo from ca for a week of diving – more than enough room for everything. one review i read said to watch out for all the space – in being tempted to fill it, you could be in serious jeopardy of exceeding airline weight limits – i found this to be true also. the wheels are my only area of concern, bordering on complaint – when the bag arrives brand new, the wheels roll so very smoothly. the first time the bag is ped carelessly by a taxi driver or baggage handler, however, things change dramatically. the wheels tweak in and rub against the housing, even rubbing away the plastic/rubber they are made of. it’s nearly impossible to get them straightened and we could find no way to access the wheels other than straight on from the outside. this means that all through the airports, train stations, hotels and dive boats, the wheels rubbed, the bag did not pull smoothly, and the edge of the wheel continues to be rubbed away. what a shame to not be able to use such a fabulous product after such a short time.

a great roller bag! big enough for two outfits, and extra pockets for separating gear and supplies. couples who dive together can use one bag for everything. has everything but a wet bar for post-dive stories.-tim blue

This bag works so well for all your gear we have actually purchased 3 this year. 2 for my husband and I and one for a family member. Pack all you need for a summer dive trip and you will only need 1 bag. Cant beat this roller bag for the price and the comfort of it being a backpack also.

Rating: Good, High quality bag
Reviewer: Stuart B., Thursday, August 02, 2007
Just used it to fly from NJ to Fl then go on a cruise boat with it. I was able to put in 2 BCs, , fins, masks and snorkles. Could have put in 2 pairs of boots and use the outer compartment for 2 octis, regs and computers but that put us over the 50lb limit for the airline.

This is a great bag for travel. I was able to easily fit two complete sets of dive gear. The only problem is that since so much room is available you can easily go over the 55 pound weight limit on check in baggage (or you can pay the $25.00 additional charge.)

Rating: Toms opinion
Reviewer: Tom W., Sunday, July 22, 2007
Good bag, but a bit heavy so weight is an issue when flying (only negative). Holds lots of items, I like having the fins on the outside to help protect the contents. Rolls easily, even over hard-packed sand. Shoulder straps came in handy when had to carry it over soft sand. I bought a second one for my wife, and recommended it to a friend as well.
