Great design except for the trucks and frame. In my engineering opinion there needs to be a wider stance with the wheels. Adding a third center truck would then make a super dedicated support for a tank or tanks when carried in the case. Using skate board trucks would also lend itself to the overall ruggedness of the unit. Also, a removable foam surround for the large compartment would be nice for those that dont carry their wetsuit and other soft gear in the same bag.

Great bag plus mine came with the extras ( water bottle, regulator bag etc). Definitely fits a lot of gear. Durable! Love that it has the telescopic handle, as well as a back pack straps. I have used the bag for travels to Mexico and Jamaica. Even packed some light clothing in there. Love this product. l definitely recommend it.

ON my first couple of trips its been a good bag. Accommodates everything I have to bring plus some. Seems to be durable. Only wish it had a side handle but other than that its a perfect bag for dive equipment. It is heavy and get it into a rental car is quite a lift. I travel a lot so I get free bags otherwise it would be expensive to take on a plane. I am glad I bought it.

Top quality dive bag with subtle improvements over the Akona bag I bought 10 years ago. I could have used my old one longer but the airlines and I were really hard on it. This bag is spacious, strong and luggage quality.

Rating: Bag worked well
Reviewer: Jane V.
Went on a trip to Cozumel all equipment and clothes fit into the bag. It was a little large for one set but great to add some items I brought home. I love the side pockets for the fins . the bag has a lot of storage on the outside as well.

Rating: Great bag
Reviewer: Mordechai Saxon
Especially like that comes with removable padded regulator bag. Pull it out for flying (Ill keep it in hand luggage) then zip back once you land. If youre like me and keep your masks inside your fins (that zip on the outside of the bag) then the only main piece of gear inside the bag is your BCD. That leaves lots of room for wetsuits and other "stuff" inside. Also dry pocket outside good for fleese hoody, sunglasses, keys, etc.

Rating: I needed this years ago!
Reviewer: Leandre Robinson
For years i carried a divers backpack on trip after trip looking like someone ready to tackle a mountain instead of the ocean. NO LONGER! Now i use the rollers more than ever and if i choose to carry, the optional straps are always there. No more worrying about my precious Suunto transmitter and regulator either with the separate pocket with padded pouch. This is a great concept with even greater execution. I highly recommend this bag for those who travel a lot.

Just returned from my first dive trip with this bag. Not a short trip... Chicago to Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur to Tawau (Borneo) to Sipidan and back! The back fully accommodated my fins, BCD, 2 wetsuits, and misc gear PLUS all my clothes, etc. if youre a serious traveling diver, this is the bag to own.

This is well constructed heavy duty Bag. Lots of room for all your gear and clothes. It is a little heavy, and zippers are a little stiff but it is a great value. Was able to get all my gear and clothes in and still meet the 50 pound weight limit. We took 2 of these and one carry on bag each and did Turks and Caicos for a week live aboard. It is a big bag. Added Plus ! it comes with nice regulator bag and computer sleeve free. I would purchase it again.

Rating: Akona Roller Backpack Bag is great
Reviewer: Dennis King  -  View all my reviews
I was surprised that this bag was of such high quality. I was able to but in all my gear with room for a weekends worth of clothes. I have not taken it on a trip yet so I can not say how it holds up in wet conditions but based on the rugged construction, I anticipate no problems. Thanks Akona for making an excellent product. I also purchased your tote bag and it is perfect for boat dives and also for going to my local gym as a gym bag.

  • Deb:

How does this bag hold up on the flight? Im worried about those outer pockets. I assume from the size it is not carry on. I also like the duffel. Would this work out as my day bag? I am 61 years young and just cant carry as much as I used to.

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Deb, this is a great bag for being used as a checked bag. The outer pockets are made out of the same durable material. As for a day bag yes you can use this, but since you are going to have wet gear I would suggest a mesh bag: This one has wheels so you can pull this behind you as you walk.

  • Ahmed:

does that bag take my 2 large fins and all my gear ?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Yes this roller bag will hold a complete set of gear. One fin goes in each of the side pockets.

  • Michele:

I would like to use this to carry my gear on and off the boat. It will get soaked. Is it meant to get wet?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Michele, not really designed to get wet. It will not hurt it if it does get wet. If you are looking for a boat bag I would suggest this one. It is the XS Scuba Wheeled Mesh Backpack Dive Bag web link:

  • Chella:

Can you carry this bag on plane. with out checking it in?

    Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hi Chella, This bag is to big to be a carry on bag.

  • jake:

How padded is it? what is the protection for your scuba gear in the bag? i do a lot of traveling and i dont want my gear to break.

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Any of the bags designed for scuba gear are fairly well padded and designed to hold dry or wet gear. The denier on the material tells you how heavy duty or thick the material is on the bag. 1000 to 1200 is very durable, but will be weigh more.

  • Steve:

I have the Akona Lg bag and have loved it but on my return trip from BonAir this week one of my rollers broke off and I was wondering if I can just order that part instead of getting a new bag? Any suggestions?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

You will have to send it to an authorized dealer to be sent back to the manufacturer for warranty repair.

  • bob:

weight of empty bag? 12.5 or 18? thanks

    Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The weight of the bag empty is 18 lbs I'll have to get that other ask the expert fixed. It is for sure 18 lbs (that was a good guess you had). Thank you for the great question.

  • Mishal:

Hi, I am looking for a bag in which i can carry all my dive gear, and the housing for my camera. is this the right bag? would be great to have some tips. thanks. mishal

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Mishal, this bag is big enough to hold 2 sets of dive gear. So yes this would hold your gear and your camera set-up. This bag is padded but if you are putting your camera gear in this I would make sure you add a little extra padding around your camera gear.

  • Tom:

For the last 10yrs or so, Ive had an Akona bag similar to this one, but instead of a water bottle, it had a larger upper outside pocket. Is this new bag bigger? My other one is tough to get an exact measurement. I believe the new one is 4 inches longer, but if you could let me know Id appreciate it. Great bag, by the way.

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Tom, here are the measurement of the new bag 31" x 21" x 14". As for the older bag you would need to contact the manufacture directly. We do not have those. You can contact them at 800.347.9766.

  • Amy:

Hi, I see that your certified instructors are saying that this Akona bag is 18 lbs empty, but the specs say 14 lbs. Which is correct? Looking for a good bag for my fiance and I to travel with, but that wont be overweight. Any suggestions?

    Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello, the actual weight is 14 Lbs.

  • Yasar:

Hello I have 2 questions 1- Do you send the products to Turkey, did you face any problems sending to Turkey before ? 2- As i understand If we buy this bag for 146,95 USD there are 3 small bags and a water bottle free of charge included , am i right ? Thanks

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Yasar, yes we can ship this order to you in Turkey and no we do not have issues shipping this to you at that location and yes you get all of those items free when you buy this bag.

  • Joe:

So the bag can carry 2 BCDs, 2 wetsuits, 2 sets of fins and miscellaneous gear? Also, is it TSA approved or come with a TSA type lock? Thank you, Joe

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Yes you can fit 2 sets of gear in there, however free diving fins will not fit in the bag. It does not come with locks but you can purchase those here
