Have not tried the outfit in the waters yet. But did put it on and it is comfy and snuggly. Feel and looks to be a quality product. Except, there seems to be a smell from the outfit. Maybe cause is still very new.

The Mares 205mm Reef Shorty Wetsuit I recently purchased earned every bit of the 5 star rating I have given it. I try to stay away from ordering fitted items online because more times than not they dont fit and back they go. From the first time I tried it on to the time I used my new wetsuit I was throughly impressed! Excellent fit and very comfortable to wear. I would give a definite thumbs up review to anyone that wanted to purchase this item, you wouldnt be disappointed.

Excellent shorty, well constructed. Like the Velcro tab allowing wearer to hook the zipper pull to the base of the zipper. This is my first Mares wetsuit. Runs just a little smaller than same size in the Henderson line. But I followed Mares sizing guidelines and it does fit. Overall very happy with the purchase and price and Scuba.com was great at quick delivery.

Just used it for the first time in Curacao, perfect for the warm waters. Fits exactly as their sizing chart indicates ( Im 6 and 210 and the XL was great)! Cant go wrong for the cost, comfort, and feel of this.

This shorty is great....and it looks good on..It feels a little more strechy than the normal shorty which is probably why it is so comfortable..As a male diver, I think this shorty works great in warm or cool water where you want just a little more protection than a rash guard.

I received this within a week after ordering. It looks great, and the price was right. I will be diving the week of December 14th so at this time I dont know how well it works or fits. I also have like most divers several full wetsuits, and a top half of a Farmer Johns that is great especially since the zipper is in the front.

Rating: excellent wetsuit for price!
Reviewer: Michael W.
I purchased this shorty wetsuit for a recent diving trip to the Bahamas, and was well pleased with the fit and quality of it. I checked the reviews and saw the recommendation was to figure the sizes ran a little snug and bought accordingly, and it was an excellent fit. If anyone is in the market for a economical 2.5 shorty wetsuit, I would have to say this one is tough to beat.

Rating: Great suit
Reviewer: Richard H.
Bought it for a trip to Aruba and it was perfect. Good quality, easy on/off, very comfortable, just right for the 83 degree waters. Just pulled it down to the waist between dives to stay cool. Held up very well after 8 dives. I wear a rash guard with it as I tend to get a little burn under the arms but I get that with all suits.

Questions and Answers for Mares 2.5mm Reef Shorty Wetsuit:

  • Alem:

I hawe 5mm pionir Mres wetsuit can dis shorty be put on top of this when I am divig i Adriatisc see in colder months Best Regards !

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Alem, yes you could wear this over your current suit. You might need to order a larger size since you are going to be wearing this over your other suit. If you have any other questions or would like to place an order please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Matthew:

I am 6 foot, 155lbs tall, thin and lanky kind of guy. Very thin and long. Would a Mares Shorty 2mm sz S work and fit well for me? My waist size is approximately 31-32. I know the run slightly smaller too.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Matthew, when you are sizing a wet suit. The two most important measurements are going to be the chest/bust, and waist. Height is a secondary measurements weight you throw out the window. If you have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • ella:

Buying for my husband. Hes a bit wider and a bit shorter than the ideals in the Mares sizing chart. Im thinking hell need a size 2XL, BUT hes about 57" tall. Your recommendation?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The waist and chest are the most important measurements for the fit with a wetsuit. Height usually will work even if it is one to two inches short or tall. Weight will depend on the divers body build and is the last measurement to consider. As long as the item is not used in the water you have up to 60 days to refund or exchange it.

  • Jon:

I live in Tampa and I am looking for a suit that will work in a variety of temperature conditions. Such as the cooler waters of the fall and into the winter months as well as the spring. Is a shorty the best and will I get more use with that versus buying a full length wet suit?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The type of suit you will want is based totally on the water temps you'll be using it in. Typically a 3mm FULL suit is designed for use in waters 75f to 85f. A shorty would fall into that temp range as well, but typically on the warmer side of the range.

  • Andrew:

Looking for a wetsuit that I can wear for a triathlon, but they all seem to be priced much higher than these. Looking for warmth and buoyancy help mostly. Any reason this wouldnt be a good choice?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The biggest detriment to using a suit designed for scuba and snorkeling is the fact that they are not made for mobility in the arms for a freestyle stroke.

  • Marilyn:

I dont purchase clothing from catalogues, as my body type is atypical. I am a female construction worker with a body type to match. Chest 42, waist 39, height 58, and weight 200, (solid except for the midlife bulge). Also, I am long in the body. The ONLY size chart that seems to have appropriate weights for the body measurements is Mares. I would like to go with a shortie that has more elasticity than neoprene, for easier entry. My shoulders have lost their range of motion from years of drywalling, any recommendations? We live in cattle country, and there are no dive shops nearby, where I might try different shorties on. You know your products better than anyone. Is there any one suit that has more give than the standard neoprene. I would like to use it in our swimming pool to extend the swimming season, as well as warm winter holidays. Tnx. M

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Marilyn, when you are sizing a wet suit the two most important measurements are going to be your chest/bust and waist measurements. Height is a secondary measurements and weight is the last. Going by your measurements I would suggest this suit and you would be a men size large: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-258/152068/Ocean-Quest-3-2mm-Premium-Titanium-Super-Stretch-Shorty-Wetsuit.html. I think this would be a better fit with the super stretch material, it will contour around your body and give you a better fit.
