This is my first gun, and I bought one for my son also. It has a nice feel to it under water and Im surprised at the power. Ive never used more than one band (yet), but havent had shots at any huge fish yet. Weve bagged a few flounder and sea bass so far. Id recomend this to anyone.

Rating: Great Gun for a great price. Recomend on all levels

This is a sweet gun for a sweet price! I bought the gun for fishing in primarily coral and reef areas in Hawaii. The smaller size of the gun makes it extremely mobile. Not only is its mobility great for quick navigation amungst thick coral, but also if you do much traveling it makes it much easier to pack.
I have used it about 4 or 5 times now, and havnt even needed to put the 3rd band on it for added power. I was really impressed with its power as well as how easy it was to load. For those who are worried about how hard it is to load, almost every gun on the market is going to take some muscle. Ive used guns that are much harder to loard than this one.
All around I would recomend this gun. You cant beet the quality of JBL, the customer service of Scuba.com, and the price that you pay for this gun.

The gun is everything I expected it to be . It is perfect
for small to medium sized fish. Since I bought the gun for my first spearfishing trip , I really didnt know what to expect but I learned that this gun has good penetration
within the twelve foot range. I captured everything I shot with it. A great buy!

Rating: Puttin food on the table.
Reviewer: Brian Olson Instructor,
I LOVE THIS GUN! Ill start with its versatility. Three bands means that the diver can adjust hitting power - fewer bands for small fish up close and near rocks, Three bands for quick hard-hitting penetration on larger fish or at greater distances. The relatively short overall length means that you can switch direction and maneuver quickly for the kill-shot. The changeable tip can be switched to accommodate different quarry and conditions. The open muzzle allows for rapid reloading so you get more shots in a shorter period of time. This all ads up to more fish on the grill.
For all-around performance and successful hunting, this is the one to lay your bets on.

I purchased this model w/3 bands specifically for the Ling and Cabezon in our area. It appears to be well made, and I am itching to pull the trigger on our next trip.

Questions and Answers for JBL 38-Special Northwest Speargun:
william:
is this gun have a hard band to pull back
Bill (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
This gun is a good size and fairly easy to load. The bands are easy to change with either longer or thinner bands to make even easier to load.
Maynard:
I have this gun and my bands have dry-rotted. Can I use 5/8" to replace or should i still use the 7-16"? Also does it matter if i use different lengths to increase power?
Bill (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
:
Typically you can go down in thickness, but not up in thickness. The 5/8 band can lead to a safety lock malfunction when used in place of a 7/16 band.
Wayne:
i have this gun but i can not get a single fish with it.
the fish would flipped and stunned, then swam away.
i had even used all three bang shooting no more tha three feet between the spear tip and the fish. there is no penetration.
someone said it is the problem with the rotating screwed on spear head i am thinking of replacing the spear tip with a slip on,
the jbl slip on comes in three different sizes. which one work for this gun?
Darrick (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com)
