Rating: exactly what I was looking
Reviewer: Charles W.  -  View all my reviews
i had this quest magnetic slate before it worked like a charm. unfortunately, i did not have the holster to protect it when in my dunk bag and over the years, it become inoperative. so this replacement, which i purchased with holster, now works and sleeps perfectly for my training.

Rating: Large Quest slate is still my favorite
Reviewer: Richard K Gebhardt  -  View all my reviews
This is the 3rd one of these that Ive had over the past 20 years. They get old and the cells that hold the dark fibers (iron filings?) and the white liquid get crushed in the bag or against a rock and then that area is permanently black. What I like about it is the that there is good contrast on with a bold stoke. This is great for communicating in poor visibility, night, and can be seen by the students across the platform during training. Even with prescription lenses in my mask cant always see pencil thin writing in all conditions, and my buddy has the same problem. It hangs nicely and usually without problems from a D-ring off the bottom of my BC. I also like that the message can be instantly erased and the reused immediately, not like a lead pencil. In addition, the reversible plastic slate on the back side can be used for notes which you dont want to erase, such as planning or a map of the dive.

Larger writing area but the slate in itself is pretty large so depends on what you prefer.

Rating: Dont Last long
Reviewer: Dominy H.
We use these slates for video titles prior to videotaping and work great for that. But the slates do not last very long, we have to replace them often.

Rating: great product

These are some of the best slates for quick chatting underwater. you can write info you want to keep on the back with the pencil and the magnet side is great for conversation.

Rating: Etch-a-sketch Underwater tablet
Reviewer: Fred W.  -  View all my reviews
This is an excellent tool for communicating while diving. I purchased it to use while diving at the local Aquarium. It allows me to write notes to the visitors outside of the tanks, especially the kids. I also got it to use with students taking the Advanced Class to demonstrate the affect of nitrogen narcosis on the deep dive (put simple math problems on it and let them try and solve them at depth). The only complaint with it is that it is very large and hard to stow while diving.

Rating: the bestest slate ever!
Reviewer: Bob White
Best use for an integrated BC in which you are not using the pockets: the best place to locate the large slate. I love writing on this. Fast and easy to read from long distance. It is intuitive, as well, if you hand the slate off to someone to write a response-unlike others. I only warn partners before entering the water that they can damage by writing w/too much pressure. It comes already w/its slip-in protector, should you not have a big pocket to store it. Then it can dangle w/impunity. You have a permanent slate on the back, as well.

Rating: Quest Slate (large)
Reviewer: Tara B.  -  View all my reviews
The pen/pencil thingy doesnt stay in the slot very well (keeps coming out and flying around, getting tangled in your equipment) but the slate itself works very well. Large surface area so you can write a message to your buddy and they can see it from pretty far away. Only negative is that the slate does take up a lot of room (when attached to the side of your BC), and getting the slate in and out of the holster can be a bit of a pain. Still better than any other slate Ive used in the past and a must have for any dive...especially if your buddy is bad with hand signals.
