Running out of slate space happens all the time. Especially when doing detailed mapping, course headings and so forth. I bought the notebook to offer more space and multiple pages. A great and unexpected feature is the perforation on each page which allows it to be torn out of the notebook to be handed to say another diver. The pages themselves are of good quality and stand up to cleaning/erasing well. The book is not as easy to use as a slate (due to a lack of rigidity) but I carry it on me all the time in any case. My only complaint would be the supplied pencil. It is sized just like a dry-world pencil - which makes it difficult to grasp and use (esp. with gloves on). Plus it is quite short which adds to the frustration in using it. I recommend attaching a proper slate-type pencil (the large thick ones) to the notebook lanyard.

I use to dive with a standard slate but after seeing some buddies use the dive rite wet notes (dive writes) I was hooked. With slates youve got to remember to clean them after each dive and you really cant write much of anything. This product lets you write out a quick message for a buddy or jot down a note for yourself... without having to bring windex on your dive trip.

The underwater notebook is perfect not only for research but also for leisure diving. The pencil is excellent with its dark color and size. The only complaint is that the pencil is "free" on a cord. A little velcro in the back of the book takes care of this problem and keeps the pencil secure. I am buying them for all of my students.

A good waterproof book that is useful to commmunicate to others as well as map dive spots. It is small and easy to store in a BCD pocket.
