Rating: Good enough for a Cozumel dive master
Reviewer: John Bradley  -  View all my reviews
I bought these fins for my favorite dive master an he appears to love them. I got them in the yellow so I can keep tract of him when there are other dive groups around. He has worn them for a week and thanks me everyday. Says they are strong fins. So I guess if they are good enough for someone with thousands of dives they should be good enough for anyone. Good price excellent value

Great fin, just got back from Turks and fins performed well on several boat dives. Very comfortable and fit true to size.I will be using these on warm water dives verses strap split fins with booties. Lightweight for travel.

Great for traveling with as they are not heavy to carry. I wear size 7.5 shoes and got the 38/39 womens fins and they fit me just fine, could be just a tad tighter but overall great for diving with. Also Im cramp-prone and no cramps so far!

Bought these to replace some older fins and am currently using them while diving and snorkeling on St.John in the USVI. They are much more efficient than the other pair and a good value.

I am a bilateral amputee and modified the fins to fit on my stumps. The fins give me the thrust I need in the open water with little effort.

I have used the Mares open heel fin for cold water diving - same pair for 15 years, they have been great, and are still in great useable condition. I wanted a pair of warm water fins so I bought these Mares Avanti Superchannel fins. They fit great, and are sized right for a scuba fin, i.e.: width and length. I highly recommend them as a great warm water fin, and a great price.

GREAT FINS FOR THE PRICE. USED ON LAST CAYMAN TRIP FOR BOAT DIVES. THESE FINS PROVIDE GREAT PUSH FOR A LOW COST. POCKETS VERY COMFORTABLE NO NEED FOR BOOTIES. ALSO ARE VERY LIGHT WEIGHT FOR TRAVELING. USUALLY DIVE HOLLIS F1 FINS BUT THEY ARE VERY HEAVY FOR TRAVELING WITH. THE MARES PROVED TO BE KEEPERS IN MY TRAVEL KIT.

Hello Ernie, I do not find that is the case. The size 12 is from 11-12 so no I do not think this will fit you they way they should. If you are looking for a size 13 full foot fins I would suggest the Aeris Velocity Full Foot Dive Fins. web link: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-21/013815/Aeris-Velocity-Full-Foot-Dive-Fins-for-2011.html. • Takahiro:

Hi, Im currently using mares wave FF fins and the fit is just right. Size of my wave fins are 44/45. Which U.S size should i get for the Avanti superchannel FF? Thanks

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The best info we have on these is the sizing listed on the fin description and drop down box for ordering. It goes by standard US Shoe sizing.

  • robert:

I wear a mens 12. Is the 12 what i should get and what are the main differences between the Mares Avanti Superchannel and the Mares Plana Avanti Tre fins. Im going to warm waters and while fit, am a novice snorkeler.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes, you would want the 11-12''s. The superchannels are going to be slightly more flexible.

  • Sean:

You have sold me on these fins but Ive read it highly recommended to wear them with some type of dive socks to prevent chafing? I dont need the socks for warmth. Lycra or Neoprene? Any specific suggestions? Also, my foot is about 8.5. Should I buy the right size or size up to fit with socks?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

I always use a dive sock for full foot fins. Check out the ocean quest lycra socks. They are "one size fits all" Here is the link below. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-112/110943/Ocean-Quest-6oz-Premium-Lycra-Fin-Dive-Socks.html

Hello Mel, you would be a size 9-10 in Womens.

  • Douglas:

I wear a male size 8 4E wide shoe. What size wuld I need to get if I add lycra dive socks.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Douglas, I would sugest going up one size to the 9.5-10.5 size.

  • Jeff:

My foot size is 11.5. I purchased the 11-12 size in this fin. It seems a little loose. Is this normal or should they fit snugly?

Chance  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

You want them to fit snug. I would recommend filling the gap with a 2mm sock such as the Akona 2mm Low Top Dive Socks that you can find here: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-112/002039/Akona-2mm-Low-Top-Dive-Socks.html

Product Features

Channel Thrust: Soft longitudinal inserts allow a controlled deformation of the fin blade while kicking. This channel shape moves a greater amount of water resulting in more thrust for the same effort. Mares design is inspired by marine mammals.

Latest development in Channel Thrust is the Superchannel. The blade is designed with a large flexible central Superchannel propelling water-flow more effi ciently down the fin blade instead of letting it spill over the sides for optimal performance and minimal diver effort. The limiting factors in traditional open heel foot pockets are their weight and the “parachute effect”.

When finning, water gets into the space between the bootie and the foot pocket, creating drag like the air in a parachute. The perforations prevent this and have the additional benefit of making the foot pocket very soft and flexible. Furthermore, the suction effect which can make doffing of the fins cumbersome, is now forever a thing of the past.

Full Foot Fin Pockets: The full foot fin pocket was designed in consultation with specialized orthopedic institutes to provide optimal comfort and achieve maximum efficiency in the fin stroke. The unique positioning system for the stiff section and the soft section of the sole, makes the fin easy to put on and take off, and also provides for optimum transfer of power to the blade without sacrificing yield or risking excessive stress on the foot, which could cause cramping.
