Rating: FUll foot fins
Reviewer: David Cohen
These fins were great. Just returned from Belize were they got a work out. They propel very well and are comfortable to wear. If you have a wide foot, go a size larger than your regular shoe size. This was the advice given to me by one of the sales reps, and it was right on.

Rating: Great Race Fins
Reviewer: Damon Johnston
These fins are great this is my second pair . I train with them in the pool and swim with them in the ocean down in the Caribbean . You have to take time to fit them correctly .... sometimes you may have to buy a 1/2 or full size smaller . It all depend on how wide your feet are. You do not want them too loose.

Love these new fins they give me great traction in the ocean without being a super powerful swimmer.

Rating: Fast and Comfortable
Reviewer: Jeri I.
I love these fins - they are flexible but still move me through the water. I forget I have them on. Plus, the bright color makes them easy to spot on the dive boat. I purchased a second pair to leave in Maui for all our diving there.

Rating: Hawaii Snorkeling
Reviewer: Mike Skinner
Wanting a lightweight fin to take to Hawaii, I asked the staff if they could recommend a fin for scuba and snorkeling. I also needed a boot style so I did not have to take my scuba boots. This was to save on weight. These fins preformed fantastic. I never did any scuba but was able to snorkel and do some free diving up to 30 feet. They are easy to use and lightweight. The only disadvantage I can see is that they are longer than most fins, but do they work great.

Rating: Great fin for a good price
Reviewer: Lucas J.
My wife and I both purchased these. I have a lot more diving experience than her, but we both really liked the efficiency of the fin. Good speed and control and no leg cramps. As an aside, the styling allows you to indentify each other in the water without having to have bright colors.

Rating: Nice fins but the size chart was deceiving
Reviewer: Susan K.  -  View all my reviews
I liked the fins overall but the sizing chart was not very accurate and I bought a size too big. If they just would have posted the Europeen size chart I would have gotten the correct size. I rated the fins as 3 stars because they tore my heals up .

Rating: Mares Volo Race Full Foot Fins for Novices
Reviewer: George Yeh
Bought this pair of fins prior to my Aruba trip cause I planned to snorkel for the second time ever and I noticed a huge difference right from the start. First off, these fins were considerably larger than the rentals other people were using. Of course with larger fins comes more thrust which I did notice immediately when I started kicking around (compared to the pair I used before). However, the resistance was lower which allowed me to stay in the water longer without cramping up. No regrets buying this...will test it out in the Florida waters in a couple of weeks! Only advice is get a pair of swim socks or boots. Even though this is a full footed fin, some sand did get in between the mold and my skin and left a rash along the edge of the boot.

These fins fit great and worked even better. Little use allowed great propulsion! Easy to put on and off and they look great!

Questions and Answers for Mares Volo Race Full Foot Fins:

  • Tibi:

Im interested in buying the Mares Volo Race Full Foot Fins, but the sizes stop at size 12. Im a size 13 in US. Could it fit or should I look for some other fins that are listing size 13 as an available option?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

When dealing with a full foot fin it's always recommended by the manufacturers to stick within the shoe sizing ranges they offer for proper fit and comfort.

  • lyndon:

I am into speardiving, sometimes in strong currents, I would like to know which is best, between the Mares Volo or the Cressi reaction pro

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Lyndon, the better of these two fins are going to be the Volo. Your going to get better performance and less leg fatigue.

  • Serge:

Hi, I am trying to buy Mares Volo Race Full Foot Fins. When i add them to the shopping card, a pair of socks are automatically added, too. I do not want these sucks, but I cannot remove them from the cart. Please let me know how to buy the fins only! Thanks

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

In the dropdown, scroll farther down and it will list the fins alone.

  • Serge:

Hello, I have a question about Mares Volo Race Fins. I have relatively wide feet, and I usually struggle to find a good fit. My normal size is 8.5-9. Should I buy mens 8-9? If they do not fit, can I exchange them? Thanks.

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

As long as the item is not used in the water you have 60 days to refund or exchange it.

  • tariq:

my size is 8 us 41 european, which size do i go for?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Tariq, you would need this size: Mens 8-9/Womens 9-10

  • StevenP:

I wear a US size 12 shoe (wide)...but, Ive heard that these fins are sized according to a European fit. Anyone know if the 11-12 run large? Im doubtful that the size smaller would fit, but you folks seem to know your stuff. Thanks! Steven

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Order according to your shoe size, if you are in between sizes go down to the next closest size. The only thing you can do for a wider foot is to get a larger size.

  • Brian:

will these work on my bare feet? i talked with one of my partners and she had hot shots or x shots, and she wore them without bootsso, what do you think, will it work or are there better options for scuba/travel. ill never rent fins again, and i like the feeling of bare feet. i ditched my boots for good in warm water thanks b

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

All full foot fins are designed to be worn barefoot or with a very thin, lycra dive sock.

  • Sean:

I am looking at the Mares Avanti Superchannel, Mares Volo Race, or Oceanic Vortex V-6. I am a total novice snorkeler and will be snorkeling in warm water and often strong currents. I bike a lot and fairly athletic. Ill adapt to whatever but I want power/speed and I would like to potentially use them spearfishing when I figure things out. What do you think? Is there a better option than these three?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Based on your description the Superchannel would be best for you.

  • Lucio:

Hi. I got theyre absolutely comfortable, but are they good for freediving? Thanks

    Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hi Lucio, They would be a good option for a freediving fin. Just remember that a long blade fin will give you more power.

  • Doug:

Im interested in purchasing the volo race fins and the scuba mask, fin, and snorkle back pack BG-333 will the fins fit in the back pack. The back pak dimensions is 29x10x7?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Doug, yes these fins will fit in that bag. The fin length is 24".

  • SCUBAZorrO:

I was looking online and and on videos and they look smaller in the videos except here in the pic, is there a difference...?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello SCUBAZorrO, these fins are 22" in length.

Product Features

Channel Thrust: Soft longitudinal inserts allow a controlled deformation of the fin blade while kicking. This channel shape moves a greater amount of water resulting in more thrust for the same effort. Mares design is inspired by marine mammals.

Latest development in Channel Thrust is the Superchannel. The blade is designed with a large flexible central Superchannel propelling water-flow more effi ciently down the fin blade instead of letting it spill over the sides for optimal performance and minimal diver effort. The limiting factors in traditional open heel foot pockets are their weight and the “parachute effect."

When finning, water gets into the space between the bootie and the foot pocket, creating drag like the air in a parachute. The perforations prevent this and have the additional benefit of making the foot pocket very soft and flexible. Furthermore, the suction effect which can make doffing of the fins cumbersome, is now forever a thing of the past.

OPB - Optimized Pivoting Blade: Allows the blade to maintain an optimal angle throughout the kicking cycle, whereas traditional fins achieve this only during a small portion of the cycle. OPB produces a constant thrust, which minimizes fatigue and produces fluid movement through the water.
