Rating: Good Fit and Good Power
Reviewer: Darrell Tagert
The Mares Volo fins I bought for my son to use in his basic scuba class and open water checkout. They performed great and were very comfortable. I even took a quick spin with them to check them out at the open water sessions.

Rating: Faster than Split Fins!
Reviewer: Joel M.  -  View all my reviews
I own a pair of TUSA XpertZoom split fins and Im just not happy with them. I brought the Mares Volo Power fins and immediately felt a big difference. I compared them back to back on the same day and without question, the Mares Volo Power fins were faster and I had less leg cramps with them. I feel split fin technology is a joke.

Rating: Wow is all thatI can say

Wow. I have been using a pair of fins that are as stiff as a 2x4. When I bought them 20+ years ago, that was okay, but now, even though I am in really good shape, I find them just too stiff (58 years old 180 # male). I have been reading the reviews on these fins for years (all great) and had a strong recommendation from one of my friends who has a pair. Finally decided to take the plunge and am I glad I did. Just got back from a diving vacation in the BVI. These fins are incredible. Comfortable as slippers with unbelievable power. My diving partner commented on this. Also, my air consumption went down as I was doing much less effort to move than before. FYI, I used a size 9 Ocean Quest 5mm Premium Super-Stretch Titanium Medium Sole Dive Boots

Rating: Like not wearing a fin

Bought these for my wife and she loves them. They feel as if shes not wearing a fin but provides great power and propulsion. the next step is to ensure she can perform frog-kick, back kick and helicopter turns in them

Rating: mares volo power
Reviewer: Michael Welch
Just bought a pair of volo power and after about a dozen dives on them I really like them they have more power than I thought they would as the side-rails are not as stiff and beefy as the rails on my atomic splits but the weight makes a difference when you travel. If I really put effort into the fins Ill easily pass other divers. It took a couple dives for me to get the feel of them but now I like em. One thing nice compared to my atomics the volos feel like theres nothing on my feet and its improved my trim in the water.

These fit me very well, a surprise since I bought them over the internet without trying them on first. Work well in the water, I think better than my old split fins (which I am now offically retiring.)

i have a pair of the volo (original style) and am very happy with those. i decided to get a second pair and discovered that there is a newer version. the new and improved volo power fins are not as flexible as the originals a good thing. the buckle style has also changed while i am not a fan yet of the new style, im sure i will get used to it.

The flexible material in the middle gives you the feel of a splitfin while still enjoying everything about a blade. Plesantly surprised.

Questions and Answers for Mares Volo Power Adjustable Strap Fins:

  • Marvin:

Are these the same fins that are on sale for 99.95??

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Marvin, yes these are the same fins. But for the $99.95 price this is a demo item and only come in Silver or Blue in all sizes. If you are looking for a different color in this fin then it would be a different price. If you would like to place an order or have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Shaunna:

Hi - I read that these are new and longer than the originals. When did they change? I have a pair bought about 3 years ago and want the same length as they are good for travel and fit in my luggage . . .

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

If you have a pair of Volo Power fins they will be the same. If it is the original Volo fin, they changed when this version came out a couple years ago. They are several inches longer.

  • Thomas:

How much longer are the new Volo fins? How can i tell the size of my old Volo fins. they say Regular on the bottom ? Loved my old Volos 10 + years old but just cracked in half doing a giant stride off dive boat.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The Volo Power fins are slightly longer, but unfortunately there isn't any info from Mares as to exactly how much. The Regular size would work for men's shoe sizes 9-11 and ladies 10+ according to Mares.

  • Joan:

hi i am looking for light weight travel strap fins for a male, and how do i tell how much they weigh? Thanks Joan

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

We do not have the specifications on weight for the fins. These are full size scuba fins and will not be the lightest fins. The MAKO fins http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-20/014384/Aeris-Mako-Adjustable-Strap-Dive-Fins.html or The V Flex Fins would be better travel fins.http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-20/114218/Oceanic-V-Flex-Adjustable-Strap-Snorkeling-Fins.html

  • Addam:

Hello, I just recieved my "DEMO" volo power fins today 99.95 and am super stoked! These things look brand new. As I first time Scuba Gear buyer you guys have been awesome. Didnt have the mask I wanted in stock so subbed for a different mask and it is perfect, exactly what I was looking for so keep up the good work. The question I have about the fins, I wear a size 9 shoe and bought fin size 9-11 I believe, did I buy the right size. I havent tried them on yet with boots cause I am still waiting for them. They seem big without boots though, should I have got smaller size fins, what do you recommend people do if they are at that in-between size. Thanks, keep up the awesome work. Addam W.

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The fin are designed to be worn with dive boots. That size should be ok.

  • Gil:

How would these perform in a moderate current?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

    Excellent power fins for current

  • Jim:

I am using scuba pro jet sports. They are stiff, I seem to really work hard to get a little extra speed and after extended use my legs start to cramp. Would the Mares Volo power fins be an improvement

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The Mares Volo fins are designed to be a great deal easier to kick. They were originally designed to compare to split fins in terms of ease of use and performance.

  • jim:

Between the Mares Volo and the Atomic Blade which would be the most efficient. I think the Atomic is made in U.S.A. Where is the Mares Volo made

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Mares fins are manufactured in their facility in Estonia. For information on other products or comparisons please contact our instructors at info@scuba.com

410008 - Mares Volo Adjustable Strap Fins

OPB system for greater efficiency
• Channel thrust technology
• ABS Plus buckles

Product Features

Channel Thrust: Soft longitudinal inserts allow a controlled deformation of the fin blade while kicking. This channel shape moves a greater amount of water resulting in more thrust for the same effort. Mares design is inspired by marine mammals.

Latest development in Channel Thrust is the Superchannel. The blade is designed with a large flexible central Superchannel propelling water-flow more effi ciently down the fin blade instead of letting it spill over the sides for optimal performance and minimal diver effort. The limiting factors in traditional open heel foot pockets are their weight and the “parachute effect”. When finning, water gets into the space between the bootie and the foot pocket, creating drag like the air in a parachute. The perforations prevent this and have the additional benefit of making the foot pocket very soft and flexible. Furthermore, the suction effect which can make doffing of the fins cumbersome, is now forever a thing of the past.

OPB - Optimized Pivoting Blade: Allows the blade to maintain an optimal angle throughout the kicking cycle, whereas traditional fins achieve this only during a small portion of the cycle. OPB produces a constant thrust, which minimizes fatigue and produces fluid movement through the water.

Riddled Foot Pocket: The perforations prevent stagnating water flow from slowing you down. Eliminating this “parachute effect” you’ll slide faster through the water. Furthermore the openings eliminate any suction effect, making doffing easier.

ABS Plus Buckles: These unique, patented buckles are the most simple and easy to use buckles available in the market. It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close the buckle, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckle from accidentally opening.

Open Heel Foot Pockets: The open heel foot pocket is designed to accommodate dive boots with a sole, and to offer excellent adherence between the boot and the foot pocket in order to transfer all the force exerted by the leg to the blade, without sacrificing yield yet still ensuring superior comfort. The lower section of the foot pocket is longer, in order to better transfer power to the blade and minimize the risk of cramping. In addition, the inside of the foot-pocket features internal ribbing to improve fit and stiffen the sole.
