This BC is wonderful. Some of the new features for BCs have been included in this. For example the lifting handle and trim eight bags are great. However, I was some what disappointed that my inflator/octopus from my other BCs would not work with Mares BC. I had to purchase a new one by Mares. This inflator is good, but only to their BC.

Questions and Answers for Mares Hybrid Pro Tec BC:

  • Gary:

can you add a second tank strap to this design?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

    No.

  • Gary:

How many tank bands? none of the picture show the back of this BC please can you add some of the side and back. thank you, Gary

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, this BC has a single tank band.

  • Gary:

Why are you not carrying the Mare Hybrid Pro TEC bc in you line anymore only on discount? I am using a 8 year old Zeagle Ranger how does this BC compare vs. a Aeris Jetpack Travel BC / Backpack, or Mares Hybrid AT with MRS Plus Weight System. i would stay with Zeagle but i want the intergrated weight systems of the new era designs? thank you, Gary

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Mares discontinued that bc so we discounted the one we have left in stock. I personally also dive the ranger and love it. The Aeris jetback is kind of a gimmicky travel bc and wouldn't be similar to the ranger at all. The mares is a good alternative. The only problem would be getting use to the inflation/deflation system.

  • Adam:

Need help choosing between pro tec and Tusa 7000. whats your suggestion

Clarke  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Adam, Thank you for your inquiry! I'm recommending the Mares Hybrid Pro Tec Scuba BC over the TUSA Conquest ScubaBC BCJ-7000. The BCD's are very similar to each other in Form, Function and fit. But what makes the Mares BCD superior to the TUSA is the integrated weight pocket locking system. I owned a similar TUSA BCD with their locking weight system. Sliding the weight pockets into the slots was easy... It was the weight pocket locking mechanism that was difficult to manipulate. The Mares Locking system was simple. All you do is slide the male portion of the pocket into the receiving slot and listen for the "click"! When you hear the click, you know the weight pocket is securely fastened into the BCD. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-2/006842/Mares-Hybrid-Pro-Tec-Scuba-BC.html If you would like to place an order or have questions about our products, please contact one of our certified Dive Instructors at SCUBA.com by calling 800-247-2822 <> 949-221-9300 or e-mail us at: info@scuba.com

  • Lee:

Hi, I am interested with the Mares Hybrid Pro Tec Scuba BC. Im 5ft 6" tall, weighs 106lbs, chest diameter 30inch and waist diameter 29inch diameter. Should i get the small size or the medium size? from the size chart it seems that my fits is at the border between small and medium size. Please advise. Thank you. Cheers.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Lee, because of your height I would put you into a size medium/large.

  • Eirik:

Hi! My name is Eirik and I live in Norway. Just starting my "divingcareer", therefore I am looking for a BCD. What size do You recomend? I am tall, 6 3", aprox 40" round my waist and aprox 17" across my chest. Will size XL fit me? Do You ship to Norway? Any idea on the shipping cost? Thanks, Regards Eirik :-)

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Waist measurement is the most important. You can place the order on the website. Using Amazon Checkout is the easiest way to process international orders. The shipping charge will be listed when you proceed to checkout and prior to submitting the order.

  • Max:

Hello. My first question is about shipping. Do you send it to Brazil? My second question is about scuba gear packages. Can you give me any sugestions for Mares and Cressi? Thanks a lot.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

We do ship Internationally. The best method of calculating rates would be to enter the order using our online shopping cart and use the Amazon Checkout method of checking out. Amazon will verify all billing and shipping information and display your shipping costs. Be advised these costs do not reflect any additional Duty or Tax imposed by your country due to importation of the equipment. Any extra fees over those displayed are the responsibility of the customer. For more information on other products or comparisons, please contact our instructors at info@scuba.com

  • Shivantha:

Hi there, Ive used a Mares Vector 1000MRS for the last few years and have been happy with it, however on a recent trip the rear section of the inflator horse completely ripped off so Im looking for a replacement. Whats the main difference between the Hybrid Pro Tech and normal Hybrid. Any pro / con for the two ?. In terms of size, there are just 3 std. sizes correct ?.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Shivantha, the major difference in the two BCD that you are talking about is that the Hybrid Pro has an added (3) Aluminum D-rings and a high lift in the bladder over the Hybrid.

  • Keith:

#1 Are these presently in stock?? #2 This will be my first BCD purchase is this one of the better values in a BCD?? #3 is this a very good quality ??? thanks Keith

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Keith, depends on size but yes we have these in stock. This is a very good BCD and you would be happy with this BCD for years to come.

  • RCWestcott:

Do you have these in stock in Medium/Large?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

For information about inventory or availability please contact our instructors at info@scuba.com

  • Richard:

A reviewer stated that they could not use their existing alternate inflator and had to buy a Mares version. Will my Oceanic Air XS2 Alternate Inflator work with this BCD?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Richard, it will work but for the service and repair going with the Mares version is your best choice.

  • eli:

i decided on the mares dragon but like the traveling options on the Hybrid Pro Tec BC now i dont know please help

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Eil, I would suggest going with the travel version. The travel version will work both in local and travel diving and you would reduce the weight you are carrying both above and below the water. Plus the travel BCD will also take up less space in your luggage for travel.

  • Shivantha:

Hi, I just ordered the Mares Hybrid Pro Tec BC from you chaps. Understand that this model does not have in build rear trim weights. The Mares web site shows an add on "cruise ad on" , however I do not see this item available on your site ?. Please advise.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Shivantha, the trim pockets you are looking for are the: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-225/044049/XS-Scuba-Trim-Diving-Weight-Tank-Pouch.html. Those will attach to the tank band.

Hybrid Pro Tec
A giant step in the evolution of back mounted BCDs

• Made with alutex, sturdy and durable
• Modular integrated weight system
• 10 metal D-rings, 3 of which customizable

The first thing you will notice when donning Hybrid Pro Tec is the perfect fit. This new level of comfort is achieved via special shoulder pads which are longer, pre-shaped and reinforced, and work in perfect unison with the lumbar suspension system. Hybrid Pro Tec feature 10 metal D-rings, 3 of which can be slid up and down along the shoulder pads, to accommodate any configuration needs. Made of very tough Alutex material, it will endure any exposure you submit it to and hold up to the test of time.
Furthermore, Hybrid Pro Tec is a modular BCD: the detacheable vest comprising the MRS plus system is removable, leaving a lean-and-mean travel BCD. This configuration can be expanded by adding the optional lumbar trim weight system and/or the Cruise Add-on pocket.

All current in line Mares B.C.D.s are compatible up to 40% Oxygen (EAN 40) right out of the box.
