Rating: Works well - but one button is difficult
Reviewer: Mark M Gottlieb
I got this for some upcoming diving trips. Just finished my first trip. The product worked perfectly as advertised. The only drawback is the one button to access all settings. And, the long manual is poorly written. Couple those two factors - and it takes awhile to figure out how to change any setting on the unit. So - if price is important - this is your unit. If ease of programming - not so sure.

Rating: Mares Puck Air / Nitrox Computer
Reviewer: Chris E.  -  View all my reviews
Does everything I needed it to do and more ! Always counted on the dive operators where I dove to provide the computer, but once I decided to get Nitrox certified -well things got more serious and I wanted more control over what happened to me and my equipment. Im a recreational diver and this model, for the price and features, exceeds my current dive computer requirements. Easy to use and understand pretty quick. Can be a bit tedious cycling through to the mode you need, but it does so much, its to be expected. Very happy with my purchase.

Rating: Best for newbie! EVER!!!!!
Reviewer: Ginette L.  -  View all my reviews
Had to get one before a cruise diving trip... but which one to get was the big question! There are so many out there!!!! Ordered it overnight delivery and BAM! here it was, next day!!! came with cd instruction book and instruction booklet. Easy, peasy, you can sneeze and still work this thing!!! Works perfectly and most importantly - simply!!! no fuss with buttons of all types. I am not fond of many buttons, and was concerned with accuracy of information - compared data to those diving with me and we were bang on all of us! Instructions are clear, simple and very easy to understand, even for me a newbie! Very happy with it and recommend it highly.

Rating: bought a mares, they shipped a Scubapro Alladin.
Reviewer: todd p.  -  View all my reviews
This isnt for the Mares dive comp, which is what I bought online... as they shipped an Alladin 2G from scubapro. So, after using it for 8 dives, it was really good. And I learned a lot more after the first few dives of what settings needed to be changed, after that was able to understand the great display, user friendly 2 button system, and the other more tech stuff. just wanted a basic dive comp, however this is a higher end model than what I bought, but like it none the less. and now that I am used to it, am glad I made the purchase.

Rating: Great computer
Reviewer: Michael Guerrero
Pro: Have completed 7 dives with this computer. Its great. Very easy to read underwater. Very simple use. Put in on your wrist, hit the button right before splash, and dive away. Notifies you of your ascent rate, reminds you of the safety stop. Ive been wearing a hood because Im diving 52 degree water, so havent heard the alarms yet, but it has them. Havent done night dives with it, but it does have the backlight. Con: When accessing the log book, it only stays on the particular dive for a short time (10 seconds max). Then it goes back to the surface mode and you have to scroll all the way through the menus to get back to log book. Its a pain. Make sure you have a pen and paper before you access the log book function, and then quickly write down the time, depth, and temp.

Rating: Safety shears
Reviewer: Roger R.  -  View all my reviews
I had been looking for a method of attaching safety shears to my BC when I received one of your special offers. The unique holster included with the shears looks like it will work well. Good price too on what I needed.

Im new to diving and I want a comp. I am not nitro certified...will this comp work for me. Do I just use the air setting?

    Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello, yes this computer would be great for a new diver. You would just keep it on the standard air setting and maybe in the future you do become Nitrox certified your ready for it.

Hello Linda, yes out of the box this will be set-up for you to be able to dive on standard air.

  • Rod:

Hi, can you tell me the diameter of just the module, without the wrist boot? Im thinking of putting it in my existing console if it is 2.15 to 2.20 inches. Thank you

Hello Rod, the module is 2.5" diameter.

  • faizal:

hye.. instead using this watch in diving, can it be use as normal watch also?

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

No, this is a dive computer and is too large to wear as a watch.

  • David:

According to the .pdf file that Mares has on-line, the Puck is capable of downloading dives to a Windows PC through an optional interface. It is also supposed to interface with their Dive Organizer program. So Im a bit confused with the previous Q&A. Is this computer an older or discontinued model?

    Clarke  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello David, Thank you for your inquiry! The Family of Mares “Mission PUCK Computers” are not downloadable and therefore cannot be used with the Mares Dive Organizer. The Mares Puck Air / Nitrox Integrated Dive Computer with Compass is the only “PUCK” capable of downloading dives to a Windows PC through an optional interface. It is also able to interface with their Dive Organizer program. • Deb:

Hello! I am looking for a computer that will fit into my console, is this model strictly a watch style? thanks!

    Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

This is a wrist model, it can be removed from the boot. The sizes on the modules have changed over the last several years and most manufacturers are not inter-changeable with different consoles. Staying with the same brand will give you better chance with a replacement.

  • Fadi:

Hi, I have received my computer yesterday when I turned it on the numbers display is not clear like the picture (screen light is off??) do you think it’s from the battery or I can increase the brightness from the computer mode?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

It could be from the battery, but typically that would not have any effect unless the battery was extremely low and close to dead. The contrast in the image supplied by the manufacturer (we actually clip them from the Mfg''s site) could have heightened contrast. Most importantly, though, would be if the computer is readable or not and if it isn''t as bright and easy to read as you expect then perhaps it should be looked at and repaired/replaced as necessary.

  • Ernesto:

how do i recharge it? USB recharger included? one more, can i share USB recharger with that of Matrix?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

to "recharge" this computer you simply purchase a battery kit and change the user replaceable batteries.

  • Brad:

Does this computer utilize a continuous algorithim to calculate decompression time for multiple ascents and descents during a single dive?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Yes, but for a variety of reasons this doesn''t make performing a sawtooth profile any less dangerous to the diver.

  • blaise:

i have a question about the battery compartment for this computer. Is it sealed separately from from the electronics. If I were to change the battery and it were to flood would it reach the electronics? Thanks!

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Blaise, not it is not. If the battery compartment would flood you would flood the whole computer.
