Rating: Could be nice boots if they fit your foot/ankle shape...
Reviewer: Larry C.  -  View all my reviews
The Thugs appear to be well constructed boots with a very nice sole design (I have used this sole on various brands in the past and have found them to be very good on slippery boat decks). The toe box is roomy and comfortable (pointy toe boxes dont work for me). What I didnt like was the fit around the ankle and heel, way too loose for me. My heel would ride up and down just walking around in the living room...and yes these are not meant to be hiking boots, but if there is significant slop in the fit its a good indication of the possiblity of skin irritation. Also if there is a lot of extra room (ie voids) in the boot that can cause your feet to feel cold, if diving in cold water. I did try a size smaller, but I had the same problem around the ankle. I ended up returning both pairs of the Thug Boots, to scuba.coms credit, the return procedure was very easy to do and hassle free. I work underwater and have "burnt" through several pairs of boots over the years, but your feet may well be different from mine, if your feet fit these boots, they could be very nice.

Great boots. My only complaint is that the soles are Not as thick as my previous oceanic boots. I dive primarily quarries and lakes which requires Long walks across gravel parking lots and sometimes crawling out over rocks and rough terrain. Once these wear out I will be going back to the oceanic boots

Let me prefence my comments with Iam diabetic so I need to take that in to consideration when I purchase some things. These boots feel just like my street boots in fit and the sturdiness of the soles. The zip up is a great feature. Appaers very accurate in the size with my street boots. Iam very happy with them.

Rating: Great cold-water boots!

Great cold water boots built to take abuse....just keep in mind you will likely have to buy new fins that are 1 or 2 sizes bigger than you had with 4 or 5 mm booties.

Questions and Answers for XS Scuba 8mm Zipper Thug Boots:

  • Bob:

I am looking for boots that I can wear kayaking that will keep out cold water and keep my feet warm.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Neoprene boots traditionally do not keep the water out. They are designed to keep the user warm by heating and insulating a layer of water between the body and the material. That being said, these boots will keep the feet warm while wet. The Neosport by Henderson Explorer Kayak boot may be more of what you are looking for. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-13/002009/Neosport-by-Henderson-5mm-Explorer-Kayak-Boots.html

  • Aaron:

How is this boot for sizing. Im normally between a 10.5 and 11 for street shoes.

Kevin  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

According the recommendation from the manufacturer I would recommend the size 11

  • Oliver:

Hi Im looking for some boots to irrigate cotton and i was just wondering if you had a set of boots that are tough as rocks but let water in.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

These are probably as close as you can find based on your description. The issue with them, as with any scuba boot, is they aren''t really made for walkling and working in. Your feet will probably slide around the durability of the rest of the boot, other than the sole, is probably not going to be great.
