Rating: Scuba Stainless Steel Safety Shears Review - Scuba Gear Customer Reviews
Reviewer: Stephen E.
I own a nice pair of Titanium shears but had been struggling to find a way to mount them for some time which is the reason I purchased this item. The sheath is fantastic and mounts nicely zip tied to the inflator hose. The swivel clip is a nice bonus for other mounting options, but for me it just got into the way. I mounted them inverted, so the clip would not hold the sheath in place snugly very well for my application, though. The shears themselves appear to be run of the mill shears - likely coated steel as they do tend to rust fairly easily at contact points (where the two blades meet). In fairness, my titanium shears do the same thing. Rust spots are easily removed with fine steel wool. Keeping them sprayed down with silicone keeps most of the rust away. As far as cutting, theyre pretty decent, but not as good as other shears because the teeth are flat rather than angled so they are not as sharp as other shears. Cutting any light metal tasks can certainly be done, but a bit more force is necessary. Buy them - the sheath alone is worth the price. The shears arent the greatest, but expensive ones rust too. A backup pair is nice to have because Im sure Ill lose them at some point.

We just returned after a week diving and speared about 25 lionfish of all sizes. The shears performed as expected. we used them to cut off the venomous fins before bagging. The only issue we had was some rust on the blades after the first day. The shears need to be thoroughly cleaned and coated with silicone after every use.

Rating: Rusted on first dive

i was surprised to see rust on the shears after my first ocean dive, but considering the cost and infrequent use, they are a good value so far. however, i would expect that stainless steel would be more corrosion resistant theres plenty ive seen that hasnt rusted and has been exposed for a long time. probably should use a better quality higher-chromium-content stainless steel. was advised to coat them with silicone grease to prevent rust will do so since hopefully, i wont have too much occasion to use them. i like the dive flag logo on the sheaf dont mind the "scuba.com" logo (it pays to advertise!).

Rating: Better than the old pair
Reviewer: David Reubush  -  View all my reviews
My wife has been carrying a pair of shears with her on every dive for many years and has used them on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately, the old pair were not stainless, so the rust finally got the best of them. I got these for her for Christmas and I anticipate that they will last for the rest of our diving careers.

Rusted after first dive! In my opinion, If you really want functionable tools for diving always purchase ones made from titanium.

Super product for the price! The only bad thing I have to say about these shears is that even after rinsing and drying after every water contact they are showing signs of a little rust, even though they are to be stainess steel. Other than that, the case that they come in is secured with heavy duty velcro and it has a swivel clip to attach anywhere. I have found that they cut through everything so far, from rope to lobster tails.

Well made despite the lack of weight. Cut well. Might be a little hard to use with thicker gloves, but with bare hands or thinner reef gloves very easy to use.

Rating: Excellent tool for divers uncomfortable carrying a knife
Reviewer: Gary V.  -  View all my reviews
I purchased this for my wife to use while SCUBA diving, since she is uncomfortable with a knife. She doesnt have to worry about stabbing a hole in her BCD. Everyone knows how to use sissors properly for cutting fishing lines or nets and it is great for cutting zip ties. Everyone should have one of these in their dive kit.
