i have been diving cold water for 4 years now with 7mm pinnacle and bare suits, which i still love but this is by far the most economical and comfortable suit yet. i am currently diving 54-60 degree water in this suit comfortably. this suit is extremely stretchy and there is no penguin effect in this 7mm. very easy to don and dof as well.

Questions and Answers for Akona 7mm Quantum Stretch Wetsuit:

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello ORIETTA, this suit is rated for 60 degree and up. If all you are doing is swimming this suit will work fine for you. If you go with a thicker suit you will not have the movement range in the places you need with a 7mm suit.

  • Mary:

Hello, I am a swimmer (no competitor) but want to swm in a lake in NW Washington State that is 50 degrees or so in the winter. I am not thinking I will swim in the deepest part of the winter but would like to extend my swimming season. I am wondering if this is a good choice. Thanks for the help, Mary Pat

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Any of the suits with super stretch in the title with be the most comfortable. 7mm is pretty thick and if you are swimming we would suggest looking at the Temperate Water 60°- 75° suit in a 5mm. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-42/Wet-Suits-Temperate-Water-60-75-degrees.html

  • William:

I am interested in the Akona 7 mm Quantum suit. I am 510 1/2" tall and weigh 185 lbs. My waist is 36" and my chest 41" Would a large be the best size for me?.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The XL size should fit you very well.

  • Greg:

I wont be "diving" but using the suit while metal detecting in up to waist deep Lake Superior in early and late winter. BEFORE the 2-3 foot thick ice forms. :-) There will be "limited" movement (swinging of the coil). Would the 7mm be too restrictive? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

With limited movement, this would be the appropriate thickness for your uses.

  • Lori:

Would this suit be too much for paddle boarding in 50 degree water? Hopefully I dont fall off but I am a beginner so it does happen. I am just wanting to keep the workout through some of the winter in North CArolina

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Lori, you can use a 3mm or 5mm suit instead. If you go with a 7mm suit you will lose a lot of movement. Since you will not be in the water the whole time you will get better movement with a thinner suit. To help you with the paddle.

Hello, I would like to buy a full wetsuit for my husband to wear while kayaking. We live in SC (Hot to Hotter) and ocasionally we visit my son in WA-We were there past week and the water was very-very cold-(Cant tell you how many degrees). Would this wetsuit work? He does not kayak everyweekend, therefore I would not like to spend too much $$. He laready owns a short wetsuit. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks,

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Since he''s not in the water kayaking I would go with a shorty wetsuit. http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-258/Warm-Water-Shorties.html

  • Adamo:

I am looking at the quantum suit. I will be diving at the Channel Islands for lobster. I believe the water at about 40 feet is around 50 degrees. Will this suit work for me? Also, I am six feet four inches and weigh around 250 pounds. My shoulders, chest, and back are big but my waist is 33. What size will work for me? Do they make a tall in this suit? Thank you so much for your help. Have a wonderful day.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The 7mm Wetsuit is the typical suit for diving in all conditions in Southern California. It''s rated for water temps from 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This particular suit is not made in the tall or short subsizes, so you''ll want to be sure to use your waist and chest measurements, in inches, as your two most important measurements, followed by your height as a secondary measurement in order to get the proper fit. If you require more assistance on sizing, please do feel free to contact our instructors at info@scuba.com

  • Kelly:

Would this wetsuit be suitable for windsurfing?

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It might affect your mobility. I would go with a 5mm.

  • thor:

Do you think that this suit can be used for surfing? And if youd recomend it for surfing in 1-8ºcelcius water?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Thor, yes you can use this suit for surfing. Because of the super-stretch material this will give you better flex ability to use this for a surf suit.

ADULT WETSUITS: 7mm Quantum Stretch Full Suit

Entire suit made from 7mm 4-way super-stretch neoprene for extreme comfort. Glued and blind stitched inside and out. Glide skin seal at neck, wrists & ankles. YKK #10 Brass zipper. Low profile water sealing zipper design.

YKK #10 brass zipper. Our unique zipper design utilizes dual rubber strips to additionally seal the zipper opening when closed, creating a water resistant closure. In addition, our low profile zipper flap folds over a closed zipper to further seal and secure the zipper in its closed position. The reinforced pull loop at the base of the zipper makes self-donning of the suit fast and easy.

The new AKONA glide-skin neck, wrist and ankle seals minimize water entry and flushing of the suit. The neck, wrists and ankles of these AKONA wetsuits are flush-cut for this purpose. The extremely slick surface and flexible properties of the glide-skin material enable the wearer to enter and exit the suit with ease.

Our uniquely designed and stylistic knee pads provide exceptional grip and durability. Unlike the stiff rubber knee pads utilized on other suits today, our revolutionary AKONA knee pad material is fully flexible, and has a hydrodynamic low profile.

Our AKONA Grab Shoulder material provides superior wear and scuff protection. Designed to grip a buoyancy compensator to reduce shifting, the Grab Shoulders create a snug and movement-free fit. The unique pattern of the Grab Shoulder material also prevents excessive stretching of the suit when hung to dry.
