About Neosport by Henderson

1960′s
Henderson Aquatics was founded by business partners Everett Edmund and Patrick Madison. Both men had also been partners in the marine industry. Shortly after World War II the US Navy concluded it no longer required diving service and sold off its entire inventory of Mark V diving suits to Edmund and Madison as surplus. A short time later the Navy reversed its position and reinstated dive services. Several years later SCUBA diving began to become popular and the partners identified the need for thermal protection. “Henderson” the business and brand was soon formed and named after the Henderson boatyard located in Port Elizabeth, NJ where the original wetsuit factory was located. Early wetsuits were sold primarily to Scuba divers as a “build it yourself” kit. The kit contained a roll of Neoprene, a pattern and a bottle of neoprene cement. As more divers opted not to construct their own suits Henderson began producing and shipping ready made suits to its customers.

1970′s
In 1974 a glue pot in the factory caught fire and the Henderson factory burnt to the ground. Everett’s son Allan joined the company shortly after the fire to help rebuild Henderson and recover from the disaster. Everett Edmund patented the original zip on wetsuit which became standard issue by the US Navy and US Coast Guard.

1980′s
The company which was now under Allan Edmund’s direction expanded its product range and focused on innovation and design. The company was the first to recognize women in diving by creating a full line of suits that offered color and style and soon appeared in the pages of magazines such as Elle and Cosmo. Wetsuits were now viewed for style and fashion and no longer just function.

1990′s
Legendary guitarist Jerry Garcia of “Grateful Dead” fame was an avid Scuba Diver and soon collaborated on a Garcia Signature line of Henderson wetsuits. The Garcia line included a new “Trilaminate” neutral buoyancy material developed by Henderson. During the 1990′s Henderson expanded into markets outside the Sport Diving market, producing it’s first line of surfing wetsuits called “Surf East”. Surf East sponsored such legendary surfers as Baron Knowlton, Todd Holland and Peter Pan. Henderson also produced the first wetsuit used for Triathlon competition in 1990. The suits were called Speedsuits and sold under the Triumph brand name. Henderson further expanded its brands to Include “Neo Sport” a value line of thermal protection products.

2000
Henderson greeted the new millennium with continued product innovation. Henderson Introduced Gold Core Technology, (ultra warm skin -in wetsuit) Hyperstretch (the first ultra stretch wetsuit) Microprene (.5mm wetsuits) Insta Dry (the first wetsuit that dried inside and out in minutes) Hyperflex Wetsuits a new surf brand emerged in early 2002 with a renewed focus on the surf wetsuit market.

2010
Henderson’s continued expansion and innovation continues to propel it’s brands into the future. Henderson, Hyperflex and Neo Sport are now part of the Henderson Sport Group. The group of companies remains focused on Thermal protection and innovation and development of neoprene products.

Today
The Henderson Sport Group today is based in Millville, NJ just a few miles from the original Henderson Boatyard where the company was founded. The company brands are distributed worldwide and it remains focused on Style, Performance and Product innovation.

Neo Sport´s unparalleled combination of product features and benefits coupled with a focus on efficient manufacturing techniques and material selection have propelled Neo Sport products to be viewed as an exceptional consumer value.

Neo Sport products provide the comfort, warmth, durability and technical advantages required by today´s active Watersports enthusiasts.

Very Pleased - I am always hesitant to purchase forward over the internet without first trying them on. In this case I did it because of an upcome dive trip and I was not disappointed. They were comfortable and durable and very easy to get on with the zipper. I am a size 8 to 8 1/2 and I went with the 9 which worked out fine. They fit fine for diving but were a bit loose when walking around. The 8 might have been a better choice but I did not want to risk them being too tight. Overall I was very happy with this purchase, especially given the reasonable price

Size Caution - This is tough review, because I couldnt even use them. All other gloves I own are size "Large". I am 180lbs 58" and the widest part of my hand (base knuckles)measures 3.5" wide. My longest finger (middle finger) measures 3.25" from where my skin webbing starts. And these gloves in size Large were much too small. I could barely get them on. And I mean BARELY. They did seem like they were well made with durable seems.

Neosport by Henderson 2.5mm XSPAN Sport Diving Vest - I purchased this product because I neededsome boyancy swimming due to rotator cuff problems in both shoulders. I was initially wearing a shorty wetsuit, however it was very inconvenient getting in and out of it all the time. The Neosport Diving Vest not only gave me the boyancy I needed, but it was very comfortable and easy to get in and out of due to the front zipper, plus it dries very quickly. It was well worth the money.

Neosport by Henderson 2mm Amara Gloves - Bought these for our daughter she didnt really give feedback on how they fit. She has long slender fingers and we had bought a size small. She did say they fit fine. I have average hands and fingers and for me the thumbs and little finger were too long but the rest were okay.

Great quality boot - This is actually as good quality as the boot I use for scuba diving, sized down for my 5 year old. Its a little big for her yet, but she used it in Hawaii on the beaches and walking around in case there was coral on the shores. She was happier using these than the aqua socks, even though theyre big and black. Since the rest of the family is divers, my younger one felt like she was part of the dive group. If youre wanting a nice thick boot and will be using it at least a couple times a year or live on the beach, its money well spent since the boot is likely to last longer than most other brands and models. If youre looking for something thats just for the once in a lifetime vacation,... View Full Review
