Great Gun for a great price. Recomend on all levels - This is a sweet gun for a sweet price! I bought the gun for fishing in primarily coral and reef areas in Hawaii. The smaller size of the gun makes it extremely mobile. Not only is its mobility great for quick navigation amungst thick coral, but also if you do much traveling it makes it much easier to pack.
I have used it about 4 or 5 times now, and havnt even needed to put the 3rd band on it for added power. I was really impressed with its power as well as how easy it was to load. For those who are worried about how hard it is to load, almost every gun on the market is going to take some muscle. Ive used guns that are much harder to loard than this one.

JBL Slings - JBL, as a company, has been in the business of manufacturing underwater hunting products for many years. The quality of their products is second to none. I have been using a JBL 38 Special for over 20 years and the only thing I have had to replace are the slings. This is understandable as the slings are a rubber product and subject to degradation. Although this is true, properly maintained slings will give an individual long and satisfactory service. I strongly recommend JBL products to those people looking for quality in their hunting products.

JBL Travel Magnum Combo Speargun - This is a GREAT value gun.
Light, accurate and versatile. for a traveling spearo, ths is definately worth considering.
In 24" cut down mode it does lack power, and so be careful you dont hit the gill plate or you might watch your fish swim away. Fortunately in full size mode it is light enough for quick target aquisition and has plenty of stopping power in the 40 lb range - havent tried it on anything bigger yet.
The only real criticism is that you need to make sure you keep checking the spear tip and spear sections as I found that they came lose more often than other spears I have used. Take spares!

jbl 38 special - This was my graduation from a hawaiin sling, I hunt the Northern California Pacific coast for rockfish. This is a great gun. I would recomend upgrading the tip to a 3 or 5 prong for less lost fish. Be sure to put blue threadlocker on your speartips! I found this out after I shot the lost my first cabezon, as well as the spearhead. This is a great gun for me as a freediver. When I go to scuba I will most likely get a pnematic.

Amberjack - Great point! It can be ground and re-sharpened with a metal file for extended use after rough hits on rocks and reefs in the heat of battle. Strong knock down power.

Compact, powerful, and cheap... - I was looking for something noy bulky but efficient at short distance (10-12 feet) so I trusted the name "JBL" and went for this compacy gun. It performed very well, a little bit rough and hard to load especially if you want to use both slings. I do recommend it if you dont want to spend to much and have a compact gun. No complaints and very satisfied (so far...).

Amberjack - Best all around gun in terms of durability and strong powerful shot in the 10-15 foot range. Its a big fish killer and lowers a boom. No need to power up the bands like in other guns as the three are right for the job. Consider changing the string out for 200 pound cable with a crimper and hold on tight!
